"Virtually" could be more rigorously defined, but if that lock can't be picked with standard tools, and if specialized tools are used by less than 1% of people who would even attempt a pick, then virtually should be an apt discription. But as LPL pointed out, the body is plastic, and there's no need to pick what can be pried off or broken with basic tools (hammer/crowbar).

@@Scarapter True. I think it may be ok for a first practice lock for disc detainer picking. Most likely if used on a receiver a thief would go for brute force. The plastic would lose quite quickly.
that's the first thing I look at! one of my favorites is a lock with a Prop65 warning. 2.5 minute video, with 1.5 laughing at the label; less than a minute dedicated to picking the uber-cheesy lock.

Dangerous, un-roadworthy and potentially deadly too. It should have a push in R clip through the pin shaft prior to the lock body so that if the lock body becomes detached the pin it doesn't work its way out of the receiver hitch and the tongue & towball &/or load become separated from the vehicle. Could be some extra legal case work coming to the Lock Picking Lawyer.

So honest with the reviews. The way you openly discuss and explain contemporary designs and flaws gives the element of ensuring protection back to the responsibility of the person employing the lock. Meaning, money will not buy you protection, it buys deterrence + time. Real protection won't be bought, it is immediately employed to perform one function, absolute deterrence/physical cessation of attempt with a reward. We have a lot of break-ins in my region, the groups are clever and up to date with current lock/security measures. Ive had to resort to the employment of electricity and small-charge explosives in traps activated by unwarranted explicit access attempts. Every lock has a weakness, a lock trusts and communicates with every hand that touches it, mine dont
What I truly like about LPL's videos is that instead of talking the same flaws in the lock and roasting it until he hits the 10min mark, he just picks it open, tells you it's made of plastic and moves on. No nonsense, just straight to the point and be done with it.

Considering portable plasma cutters are now thing no such thing as a secure lock. That being said there is always a way to defeat a lock. Doesn't matter how fancy. At best you're basically betting on the fact a criminal might at best not consider the hassle worth the prize.
Also, at some point it would be easier to brute-force "door" itself rather than the lock. Making everything indestructible is a tad too much effort and a bit too unrealistic
If you want a standard pin tumbler lock, go for an ASSA 700. Those will keep out keep out everyone but die heart lock sport folks. It took me 4 months worth of 2-5 20 minutes sessions 4-5 times a week to get my first open on one of those. If you want a pin tumbler with side bar go for ASSA TwinCombi if you are sane, or ASSA DP+ if you are truly paranoid. Very very few people in the world can pick those, and nobody can pick them in anything that resembles a timely fashion. If you want disc detainer, go for an Abloy Protec2. Not even "the pick that Bosnian Bill and I made" has had any luck there yet. I have no doubt that LPL will be one of the first to showcase it done however.. but today is not that day. The physically strongest of the above is the ASSA DP+, but anyone of those four locks will have anyone with a clue going for the door frame (or whatever) with a burley/grunty tool and a vengeance.
@@clothar23 Plasma cutters don't help much if the lock core is made out of material that expands when heated and has very high melting point... Basically you just make the lock inoperable even with the original key.

I picked my first real lock yesterday. It was a Masterlock (surprise, surprise) and it was simple enough to rake it with cheap tools then just as simple to properly pick it on a pin by pin basis. I then had a go at the Yale 851 shown in video 343 but i couldn't beat the mushroom pins with my cheap-ass tools. It felt like I needed loads of force to get past the mushroom pins and my cheap picks just bent backwards. Any tips for these?
Practice, you know your doing enough when you get calluses in weird places. Those cheap picks actually do ok, a bit of time they wear in. LPL makes it look easy, but he is doing more with the torquing hand than the picking hand
@@dashingdave2665 I've got a fair bit of practice in with the clear locks that came with the picks though they are pretty easy, no security pins and they are properly loose. This was my first time encountering security pins and it's easy to see how much of a difference they make from just a quick side by side. It also shows the skill LPL has when he fly's though these kinds of locks. Your comment on LPL doing more with his torquing hand is interesting. I'm a lefty so I was trying to do things upside down, torquing with my right thumb at the top of the key way and picking with my left. Think i'd have a better time copying LPL's technique?
It doesnt matter which hand you use, you can just turn the lock around. What he means by LPL using mostly the tensionhand is... when you feel resistance from one of the pins, push on it (not as hard that your pick will bend) and then slightly release tension untill the pin sets. Then crank the tension back up and go look for the next pin that gives resistance.
1 minute 51 second video + 'Virtually Pick Proof' = Not in this reality/dimension/universe I've never picked a lock in my life, but I'll bet I could pick this with a piece of coat hanger and a paper clip. LPL, thanks for this!

As soon as I heard disc detainer core my mind immediately went: SAY THE THING!!
I picked my first real lock yesterday. It was a Masterlock (surprise, surprise) and it was simple enough to rake it with cheap tools then just as simple to properly pick it on a pin by pin basis. I then had a go at the Yale 851 shown in video 343 but i couldn't beat the mushroom pins with my cheap-ass tools. It felt like I needed loads of force to get past the mushroom pins and my cheap picks just bent backwards. Any tips for these?
Practice, you know your doing enough when you get calluses in weird places.
Those cheap picks actually do ok, a bit of time they wear in.
LPL makes it look easy, but he is doing more with the torquing hand than the picking hand
@@dashingdave2665 I've got a fair bit of practice in with the clear locks that came with the picks though they are pretty easy, no security pins and they are properly loose. This was my first time encountering security pins and it's easy to see how much of a difference they make from just a quick side by side. It also shows the skill LPL has when he fly's though these kinds of locks. Your comment on LPL doing more with his torquing hand is interesting. I'm a lefty so I was trying to do things upside down, torquing with my right thumb at the top of the key way and picking with my left. Think i'd have a better time copying LPL's technique?

It doesnt matter which hand you use, you can just turn the lock around. What he means by LPL using mostly the tensionhand is... when you feel resistance from one of the pins, push on it (not as hard that your pick will bend) and then slightly release tension untill the pin sets. Then crank the tension back up and go look for the next pin that gives resistance.

This also applies to things being unhackable, pick proof, or anything else security-related. If it's meant to be able to be entered properly it can be entered improperly.

Virtually is a qualifier word that is used to say "what I am going to say next sounds great but I cant actually say straight up so I add a maybe word in front to stay legal"
