To fully enjoy pop culture, you need to be young enough to not see everything repeat. Once you're older they bank on you continuing watching anyway, because what else are you gonna do.
why? what’s this obsession with everything being brand new and not inspired by anything else? historically, that’s not how art has ever worked. yknow, sometimes it’s okay for something to have been done before as long as the quality is there. and as someone whose first horror movie was the exorcist, the quality is there with Longlegs, it just wasn’t something that hadn’t been done before. predictable, but very well done. the actors were great, cage was shockingly charismatic in a Art the Clown kinda way, the way the story moves is very stylized, the concept was fun, and the cinematography was fantastic. this seems to be a specific issue with horror fans, most likely bc there’s the added challenge of needing to be scary and when ppl are desensitized to jumps and most scary things from the quantity of horror movies in the modern era, it’s easier to say a movie sucked bc you weren’t scared enough or you’d seen that concept before. unoriginal doesn’t mean inherently bad, unless you only view things from a perspective of ‘I need something new’ every time you watch or read or analyze art.
I think we need to separate ‘unoriginal’ from ‘cash grab’ bc it’s very clear that the issue most ppl have is when there’s no passion put into it and no attempt at telling a story, not that the story itself is unoriginal. it’s very obvious when movie studios greenlight something ONLY bc it’ll make money and that’s the shit ppl hate, not the fact that they’ve heard a similar story before
@@pillowvibes I agree. I haven't seen Longlegs. What I was taking aim at was commercial productions without any artistic ambition or intent to do something new, however small, in an established genre, e.g. themes, style, perspective, atmosphere, setting, top-notch craftsmanship etc. I don't mind people making something where the main intent is to learn the craft and grow creatively; it's the worthless "cash grabs" I dislike, that clutter catalogs and cause both viewers and workers to waste time and effort on what ultimately is rather meaningless. Ideally, I would like our society to focus on mastery, craftsmanship, exploration/innovation and creative expression, and less on maximizing profit.
Whispering in Grandpa Lim’s ear: “It’s an objectively good trailer and it’s possible to enjoy it when you release yourself from the tyranny of hypercritical cynicism.”
I get what he’s saying. I don’t think it’s a cynical take, just that this trailer does seem pretty standard for horror nowadays. The other marketing was neat though, and it very much could be a great movie.
I am amazed nobody is doing any trailer reactions to Oddity which is another film that's got a good rating and looks creepy. It's going to be one of those moments like when Sixth Sense came out and another movie that was just as good never got noticed called "Stir of Echoes" because it came out about a month later about the same type of thing.
You can tell by the way he went quiet, after the first bit
He needs to keep up appearances.

Don’t get too excited Limmy
I loved it Limmy ... even have the soundtrack on pre order.
And these are wounds that will never heal...
Can't wait till the 7th of December.
The month and day are reversed in the US. It releases on July 12.
I'm sure Longlegs will be very good. It's by the same director of 'The Blackcoat's Daughter', incidentally he's the son of Anthony Perkins.
The quigley guy
Exactly, one of if not the best modern horrors

It's the marketing campaign that's exceptional. He missed the point.
Would love for one of these to just end with him deadpanned and then move on to the next topic. Silence speaks volumes.
Went tae the pictures and couldnae find a seat, ken?
Limmys long legs
WHY are ALL horror trailers the SAME ?? 😂😂
Goodness gracious, man, you aren’t impressed by much are ya?

Book of Revelations aye
Meh... some people don't get things.
Is Neon supposed to be discount A24?
Nah, more of a worthy rival to A24. Neon has been called the new A24, as A24 is making its exit from the indie/film buff realm.
Ah cannae stand it
Whoever came up with the sound design for this should be fired.
It was good! It creeped me out!
No way
So….you…
*Wait*
Did he…like the trailer???

Homie, I’d love to play you in some Poker! (Well maybe not LOL)
Just seen the movie. It sucked 😢
