Hello All! I was just wanted to note that I said it was the 'Welsh Highland Railway' instead of the 'Ffestiniog Railway' that crosses over the mainline at this point. Apologies for the error, I only realised later when editing and I wanted to keep the reference in to highlight the uniqueness of the line.
I think you need to do an 'All the Stations - Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway' episode to make up for the error 😋

From the start of the Prisoner pastiche I waited patiently for that shot: a silhouetted Vicki standing defiantly in the sand as if rooted there, fists clenched, screaming at the heavens, "I am NOT a number..".. and then it didn't happen! Argh, golden opportunity passed up at the end of an otherwise excellent and well-documented vid.

Vicki and Geoff are fantastic, for me they set a benchmark for quality TH-cam content. Superbly professional yet beautifully down to earth. They do this so much better than people that try similar things on TV. Wonderful stuff.
Very well done, except no “rover” to catch Vicki escape. The Prisoner was one of my favorite TV shows. I’m so happy the Village has not changed any.

I was there in 1983 (or 1982???). I walked from Porthmadog, spent half a day there and then walked to Minffordd, caught the train to Harlech and the castle, returned by train to Prothmadog. The next day took the Ffestiniog Railway to Blaenau Ffestiniog. That was just before the station interchange between the narrow gauge and BR had been completed.
Portmeirion is a wonderful and magical place - as to is the Ffestiiniog Railway.
I am not a number, I am a free fan. My biggest disappointment of the family trip to England is we couldn't get to Portmeirion. Luckily there are several TH-cam visits by fans. Frankly we were too busy visiting the Harry Potter film sites all over England and Scotland. So it isn't like we weren't doing anything fannish. (Doctor Who had not started the new filming in Wales, so that wasn't even on the radar.)

Best Vicki Explores yet. I visited the village twice and even stayed at the hotel one time. And I’m old enough to remember the TV series when it aired originally. Loved it. Great place. So different.

Ah, nearly 20 years ago, I proposed to my wife in the little shelter tucked into the woods above the 'Town Hall' that looks out, over the village. We always enjoy visiting this beautiful and interesting place.
Loved this video. On the day I retired from my government position, I had the theme from the Prisoner as the first tune on my playlist while driving away.

Whilst holidaying in Wales in about 1990 my wife and I decided to visit Portmeirion, but for entirely different reasons. My wife was only interested in the Portmeirion pottery factory shop which I had never heard of and when she returned to the car to leave I said “aren’t we going to visit the Italianate village which is where the Prisoner was filmed”? Much to my surprise she had never heard of either of them!!

Excellent. Patrick McGoohan was one of my heroes in the days of black and white tv. I visited in 1973 I didn't realise it wasn't finished until 1976. Well done Vicki, and Geoff for his cameo taxi driver role!

The Cambrian railway line, which is BR. Has the interchange for the Ffestiniog Railway at Minffordd station. To get to the Welsh Highland Railway, you will have to take the Ffestiniog railway to Portmadoc, and change for the Welsh Highland Railway, for Caernarfon.

What about "Doctor Who and the Masque of Mandragora" which was filmed there in the 1970s - they used Portmeirion to represent an Italian city state on the verge of the Renaissance.

@@nathantew946 A couple of eps of Danger Man were also filmed there, which is what gave McGoohan the idea to use it for The Prisoner.
@@andylinton2798 If I remember correctly (I shall have to watch my DVD box set again to confirm), in one episode of the Prisoner, the name "John Drake" (the Danger Man) briefly appears as a typed name in a file, thus suggesting that is the Prisoner's name.
Mervyn Partin You do remember correctly. It shows the allegory that McGoohan was tired of doing Danger Man, so he ‘resigned’ but no-one could understand why, and he wouldn’t explain.
That’s largely how TP came about.

Very cool! I was in London in the spring. Took the Underground whenever I had the chance. Did not have time to go to PortMeirion. Wish I did. You know you can kill Spot with a plastic fork. I saw it on the Simpsons.
An enjoyable video. Admittedly spent part of it trying to spot where I live on the otherside of the estuary.

It shows how old I am but as a young man I owned a Lotus 7 painted in the colours of the one driven by Patrick McGoohan in the opening title sequence. Wish I had kept it!

I was able to visit here about 20 years ago. The Prisoner was my favorite TV show.

Brilliant, loved the Prisoner pastiche at the end.
I have to admit I never quite grasped the appeal of _The Prisoner,_ possibly because I was introduced to it by one of Those People. You know, the ones who demand beforehand that you love the thing they're about to show you, and then get really angry when you don't. It's one of those shows that seem to attract a lot of Those People.
Pretty village, though. Kind of bizarre that it's a real place.

A really lovely presentation. It reminded me vof my own visit many years ago. I was disappointed to discover that many of the buildings were very poorly constructed and require a huge amount of maintenance. However, it is very picturesque, surreal and, of course, the home of The Prisoner. But; where the strange balloons in your recreation of the iconic TV series?!!!
Many of the 'strange balloons' - the Rovers - shots were actually filmed on the sands near Greatstone - Dungeness in Kent. The Folkestone Yacht Club provided their rescue boat to recover the Rovers (actually weather balloons) as they blew out to sea. Patrick McGoohan used to hold the balloon and release it & they'd film it rolling away from him - then play the film backwards so it 'captured' the Prisoner trying to escape.
Amazing place, visited it a couple of years ago.

gwishart Forgive me. I’m a Yank, not a Brit, and have never heard of Brexit and why would talk endlessly about it. Tell you what I will do, though. I’ll trade you one impeachment for your Brexit, even up, and then it will take them some time to switch gears, and by then both will be over. 😊

I can see many a coffee and tea was drunk in story boarding the shots. Geoff would have been so excited to film some of the escape......nicely done although how many times did your “cabbie” make you do the running scene on the beach to get the perfect angle. Lol. Ps very hot here in Auckland

The gift shop were selling inflatable white balloons that we considered using as a prop, but they were £35!! a little expensive ...

Great video, wonderful homage to The Prisoner - although someone could have CGI'ed an image or two of "Rover" chasing Vicki. And, where were the Mini Moke taxis?
I've been to Portmeirion twice - in 1992, and again in 2004 - but both times, it was almost impossible to get a taxi to get there, and all of them in the area were booked when I tried to leave, although at the time there was a bus (that went as far as Caernarfon, I think) that stopped at the entrance twice a day.
Also, both times I went, the "Green Dome" was suffering some serious rust decoloring, but I didn't notice any in the video; perhaps some work was done in time for the 50th anniversary of The Prisoner in 2017 (speaking of which, how could you not do any video from the main balcony?).
