I was in the Navy when Carter was President. At the time I was making about $79 dollars a week. He doubled our wages. Much needed at the time.

Let me say that I've been in Atlanta 30 years and I've learned a few things. One, Buckhead isn't all that. Yes, it's a wealthy community within the city yet a lot of those individuals work downtown then commute back to their fancy homes. It's relatively recent that they've begun to build up that area beyond residential but also there are better hotels further South that won't break the bank.
When I arrived here in the mid 90s there was a homeless population yet it wasn't as stark. The city had a lot of homeless shelters that are now closed which as a result put people on the streets but there was also Katrina so many of the people who were displaced in New Orleans from that hurricane ended up here. Some were able to bounce back quite a few weren't and they too ended up homeless so all of that contributed to the increase in the homeless population.
Crime in Atlanta is no different than any other large metropolitan area than I've lived in and I lived in five from LA to NYC. I live in Southwest Atlanta where one might be surprised are many well to do people and retirees who live in homes valued in the upper 200K or more. My neighborhood is one of those areas and I have no problem walking about it at night or any other time and as someone pointed out that section of the city and Atlanta in general is hot right now in terms of real estate. People are trying to get here, neighborhoods are gentrifying because of access to certain amenities. The South end for instance; The Benz, State Farm Arena, Georgia State U Stadium which used to be the Atlanta Braves Stadium as well as easy access to the airport just to name a few. And because of that people are flocking to this side of town.
Atlanta isn't as bad as some make it out to be but it may not be your cup of tea if you're not into urban living. I'm originally from NYC and so Atlanta, even though not the biggest city on the map and certainly not NY, I'm comfortable with it and all its flaws because I understand the nature of cities.

At 0:50 you’re on I20 riding through Covington. Should’ve rode through. A lot of beautiful antebellum homes off of the square. Sherman came through on his march to the sea and stayed at the Patterson house. He didn’t burn the town because of the beauty supposedly.

I came across your Lexington KY (where I live now) video today, and have stayed to watch your Charleston, WV (where my wife is from) and now your ATL video (where I am from). I feel bad that y’all are giving these breakfast situations a bad wrap in these hotels because it was right after Covid states like Georgia were very strict. They pushed vaccinations for Covid and all that. I’m from South Carolina I and my family we didn’t get any vaccinations. we don’t believe in vaccinations we didn’t wear masks and even we understood when we went to these places that the situation s were different. But the pillow situation during Covid, they were shortstaffed in places even two years after and the pillows have to be washed and dried and sanitized so they probably didn’t have any extras because they didn’t have any extra bodies to clean the extra pillows so I mean it’s 2024 now you probably don’t feel the same way as you did in that moment but because now I’m in 2024 just now watching all these videos, I’m gonna make that comment because at the time that’s what was going on.

Jimmy Carter is one of the greatest humanitarian presidents we've ever had. He continued working for the good of humanity long after his presidency, instead of gobbling up goodies for being a big shot like so many other ex presidents do. I admire and love the man and his work. He is still fighting for his life. God bless him.

Atlanta, one of greatest and historic southern cities, is burning itself into the ground. Crime and homelessness is out of control. City leaders are uninterested in doing anything about it. Such a shame.
The chaos is getting so bad there, that Buckhead (a very wealthy neighborhood) is fighting to break away so they can form their own police force. Of course Atlanta is begging them not to go, but I think Buckhead isn't listening. I'm on Buckhead's side here.

Last time I checked the governor of Georgia is Kemp. Stop deflecting the blame. Republicans have been running this state for years. They don't put money in the poor democratic areas because that's not their voting base. The rich republican voting base is in buckhead and the northern suburbs

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip ignore the fool, he probably watches sensationalist TV too much. Atlanta has the hottest real estate market in the country, it's not burning to the ground. The homeless area by the capital has been cleaned up. Most people hangout and walk in Midtown, north of Downtown. You visited some pretty ghetto areas compared to the rest of the city. Midtown with Piedmont Park is some of the best & most walkable city areas in the Southeast.

In Savannah, our church supports a homeless ministry. The three biggest groups are the mentally ill, substance abusers, and content to be homeless. Those who want to get off the streets are a very small percentage. Bottom line is that calling this a "homeless problem" is diverting attention from the real issues.

When you are homeless you have no one or place to go. The despair must be an abyss of desperation. Probably leading to insanity. If you die, no one will know or care. So, you may as well camp be in a visible spot because they will have to move your body lest the vultures show up.

Born and raised in Metro Atlanta, the heart of the city WAS vibrant with huge department stores , restaurants, 1st Class retail and stunning hotels and theaters, the RABLE and LOWEST classes ( sorry) have dominated the central city for decades now bringing a sense of fear and paranoia to the streets , I understand you can't buy a shirt or roll of tape downtown anymore , the last time I was in downtown taking MARTA rail the stations were terrifying especially with luggage , pan handlers and dazed aggressive bums everywhere , a RUINED city where fear reins , the privileged suburbanites despise it, even though it is the reason they can live there , everybody there is a victim of racism a main topic of daily conversation with all segments of the population....
