Excellent video. Took me a while to watch it, but worth the extended time. My Dad got me started back in the 50's with a great Santa Fe 2043 set that I wish that I had now. I have passed the bug on to kids, grandkids, nieces & nephews over the years. Now retired, I'm fortunate to be able to enjoy the hobby and expand the collection. All the best, Matt

Hi Eric, Happy 40th upcoming birthday from an older guy. My brother and I got our first Lionel train set back in the last century about 1965. My grandmother bought it from the neighbor because her sons had grown out of trains and were gone to university. It is a steam engine plus cars. I don't exactly when it was built. I still have the train set and I'm still doing the model train hobby which is great.
I have about 60 locomotives myself O gauge. And my layout is 6x16, not a huge layout, but big enough. I work for a railroad in the northeast United States and as an EMT. Sometimes after my day at the railroad, I want to pull my hair out, it’s certainly much different than model railroading that’s for sure. Or after an ambulance shift, I’ve seen some very very sad situations. So my way of unwinding is my trains. I come home throw them on and I find it very relaxing and helpful. And to make things even better, my girlfriend encourages my hobby. She could care less if I come home with something I bought. And she actually is very interested to see what it is, and many times comes to the trains shows with me. It’s a great hobby, I find it very helpful for stress relief.
Eric, I got the train bug too! I have 47 diesels engines most by MTH, Lionel also in my collection I have 38 steam engines. I'm looking for a 4-8-8-2 Yellowstone, I hope the guys at Whistlestop trains, that where I go to buy my trains here in Portland I have my fingers crossed that Charley can find one for me. I've been buying trains from Charley for 20 years. I really enjoyed watching your video`s I have been watching them for about 10 years now. I like each Episode, thanks for sharing your collection! I also like your bridge on the layout, like I said I've been watching you for a long time. I watched your episode on laying track and ballast, the episode on running wires for lighting, switches, etc. Eric, keep going and I will keep watching!
The most rare train I have in my collection is the Lionel N&W 0-8-0 6-38047 from 2002. I actually won mine in a bid on ebay for about $180 in good condition (only thing that needed fixing was the front headlight), retail price is around $700. So basically that was the biggest "steal" for me in this hobby so far since I got it for about 4 times less than the retail price (700/180 = 3.8 but I rounded it up to 4). The most valuable train I have in my collection is the Lionel 783 Hudson from 1984. My dad picked this Hudson up for Christmas for about $500 or so dollars. The E unit had to get fixed since it was shot but on eBay this puppy goes as high as $1,250.
Also, I'm so glad you was able to pick up the Rudolph baggage car for your 249E Tin Plate Christmas Train. I just love the passenger announcements for this train. They always make me laugh and smile!

The almost 2 hours went by so fast, as I watched this. I have to wonder how many hours it must have taken you to record and edit this episode... WOW! All the engines are magnificient. All the steam engines seem like lots of the iron horses that once rode the rails and some still run, today. The diesels and other units are amazing, too.
Nice video. The second time I have watch it. I did notice one thing though. You have a few Burlington Northern locomotives, but what was BN before. It was Northern Pacific railways. And no Great Northern railway either. My best friends dad worked for Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern and retired from BN in the late 80`s. At that time all of Northern Pacific`s locomotive shops repair shops and the round house where torn down. Northern Pacific and Great Northern railways together in a joint effort to cut the tunnel through the north Cascades mountains back in the 1800`s. That tunnel is still used today and is the longest tunnel in north america (8 miles).

I do have quite a bit and scale... more mainstream is a HO trains... I have around a hundred train engines I buy a little at a time when I can....
Eric, I'll pose the 64,000 dollar question: how on earth do you manage the dust build up on all of those models!? LOL. Just an amazing collection. This video obviously took quite a bit of time to create, my utmost plaudits to you. Very much enjoyed watching this.

(from Canada) Hello Eric:Found your video very informative, the different models in your collection, I am not a collector of "O" gauge as you are, but I have a layout in my basement in 4 rooms in "N" scale. Now it has taken me more 20 years to get the engines in my collection.I did a count of my engines but gave up when I reached 600. I tried the same on my rolling stock and there also gave up counting at 1,000 cars. My layout has been on the shown to the public and to members from all over the world, these people were from the show that was in Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I just thought that you might like to make a comparison to a much smaller gauge. I have watched all your videos up to this one (episode 53) and now I am going to carry on watching the rest. Great videos Eric, keep your videos coming, I am looking forward to viewing the rest of your videos.

Nice layout! I just picked up model railroading for the first time in a decade. My dad hated N scale, because he had so much trouble with it. If only his place was big enough for a big G Scale layout, because he loved G Scale. Personally I'm an HO Scale guy, but I have mad respect for the Lionel O Scale, actually do plan on having at least one basic set.
I LOVE the CN 5701!! I would love to see that K5A Pulling some passengers or freight on your layout! It looks amazing!! Would love to see that review in the near future or of it just running around pulling some cars! Love your videos and love your collection!

For the Silver Bullet Train, my mother bought me that same train for my birthday in 2008 when I was in 7th grade and I almost got in trouble for saying the train's name by my one teacher before I got the set.
Most people don't, but there are some people out there who do. They are usually the type of people who choose to blame everyone else for their problems in life and hate people who succeed through hard work and determination. They also tend to believe that success in life depends on luck and not hard work.
@@Ericstrains Those are losers, sir. You don't have to worry about them, as I can see the only luck you had is inheriting your dad's model stash, which is also his hard work. So yeah I can pretty much say that haters gonna hate, this is awesome!
What a collection! One fun fact about your BN SD60s is that that particular paint scheme was created shortly after the road merged with the Frisco railroad and was sometimes referred to as the "Frisco Northern" scheme. Unfortunately, from what I've read about this scheme, it holds some bad memories for people who worked for the BN at that time as well as the fans of the Frisco who didn't want to see their favorite railroad absorbed which is a shame because like you, I really like this scheme.

Eric: The Pennsy high pitched whistles were known as banshees and the N&W high pitched whistles were known as hooters. Both banshee whistles and hooters whistles are steam freight whistles.
I am planning to buy a Lionchief Plus A5. I don’t know which variant I want, but it’s a bit pricy on eBay ($200-$400). I think it’s a cute 0-4-0, and would be a great addition to my little layout.
My only train that is close in scale to HO is that at a train show in Missouri, I picked up a 1957 Triang-Hornby Jinty for $10. Gauge is of course OO scale and the guy said it still runs. For $2, I got a piece of Bachmann Nickel Silver track so the engine can rest on it instead of the wheels resting on a table. Who knew that you can find British made toy trains here in the United States?
Eric, we are all small kids at heart. Just some of are taller and have more money then others!

At 12:52, the Union Pacific diesel seen is actually a DDA35- not that much were made alongside DDA40Xs

Eric: The Pennsy high pitched whistles were known as banshees and the N&W high pitched whistles were known as hooters. Both banshee whistles and hooters whistles are steam freight whistles.

I am planning to buy a Lionchief Plus A5. I don’t know which variant I want, but it’s a bit pricy on eBay ($200-$400). I think it’s a cute 0-4-0, and would be a great addition to my little layout.

My only train that is close in scale to HO is that at a train show in Missouri, I picked up a 1957 Triang-Hornby Jinty for $10. Gauge is of course OO scale and the guy said it still runs. For $2, I got a piece of Bachmann Nickel Silver track so the engine can rest on it instead of the wheels resting on a table.
