    I have lived in Tallinn for 5 years and will move to Tartu in September. I have visited it several times and it's really calm. So if you are into nature, calmness then Tartu is definitely for you!

    We did exactly the same as you a few years ago. We had a day out in Tartu with no plans. We stumbled upon the same walk as you did. Great day out

      Thanks very much, apologies for my slow replies recently - not had as much time as I would have liked to get in the comments. Glad you’re still enjoying some of these other trips I e taken - some great memories for sure. Tartu was really interesting and despite the long bus journey I had a great time. Hope all is well with you and things are good over there in Finland. 😀

    Surprised you're scared of heights when you love climbing stairs! That building is really leaning. Kids, stop kissing and get to class. Really liked the laying down on the bench montage!

      It's mainly tall ladders that do it for me but I'm getting better. Thankfully mountains aren't a problem 😅

      It was a long day trip so spending a night would take the heat off and perhaps let you explore some other villages nearby. Glad you're enjoying the videos, bet you're looking forward to visiting now!!

    Cathedral hill (or Dome hill): By the 7th century, local inhabitants had built wooden fortifications on the east side of Cathedral hill. In medieval times, there was also a bishop's castle. Construction of Cathedral began in the 13th century and was completed at the beginning of the 16th century. The university library was located in the choir of the cathedral from 1807 to 1982, after this time it has been university museum. That little mountain you were lying on bench is called Musumägi [Kissingmountain], built in 19th century.
    Kristian Jaak Peterson, a poet, was first gay person in Estonia. He is known for walking from Tartu, where he studied at university, to his parents' home in Riga due to lack of money. He died of tuberculosis at the age of just 21.
    You were only in front of main building of Tartu University, there are a lot of research and educational institutions and student dorms everywhere in Tartu. There are no university campuses in Estonia like we have seen in US for example.

      @@MattWhitingsEurope As someone who now lives in Tartu, this video is a bit like a nostalgic trip back in time, bet it would be a pretty interesing comparison to visit it now during the culture capital year.

      @@MattWhitingsEurope I was thinking that there is no way this video was filmed just three months ago! I visit the Toome hill (with the ruins of the cathedral) almost daily and some of the thing in this video have changed - new benches, lampposts, threes broken in storms. Small things, but these can make a lot of difference.

    Forgot to leave a comment the first time round- this is a really lovely video. Tartu looks so charming. I love the look of the botanical gardens especially. Did it feel like a peaceful place? And did you get to go inside any Univerity buildings? 🙂

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, glad you liked it. It was actually a really pleasant day, the type of day that passes by way too quickly! The Botanical Gardens were really nice but it's a shame I didn't get there a little earlier whilst they still had all the indoor areas open. Still, it was nice relaxing in that garden chair for a bit. Sadly didn't get to go in any university buildings which is a shame.

    I see you got some very nice drone shots! I'd like to do the same next month when I visit, can you mention if you had any issues with someone saying you can't fly drones in these areas? Thanksss!

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hello Daniel, no issues at all. I tend to fly from a quiet spot away from people if I can, means there's less people to disturb or get annoyed. I found the rules for Estonia here --> transpordiamet.ee/en/aviation-and-aviation-safety/flying-drones-estonia Hope that helps!
