    Tartu's railway station actually burned down in 2006 and was reopened after long-long restoration in 2012.

      I didn't know that, but that's very nice that they restored what's left instead of building new 😀

      The station building did not burn down in 2006, it was just damaged by the fire.

    Hey, I really enjoed this video. I caught another video of Bald and Bankrupt on the train in Estonia in the depths of winter. He has historically travelled in Russia, Bellarus and Ukraine with the occasional exception but he got soured on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. Why he chose to trek to Eastern Estonia when it was all dark and dreary is a mystery. Anyway, while seeing the largely vacated towns in that region, he did provide us with a couple peeks at the train he took. I've loved trains since I was very small and sadly, in the US now, passenger rail is a shadow of itself. I now officially have Estonian Train Envy and will fantasize about traveling the various routes there someday. This video really showcased the beautiful paint scheme on the rolling stock and I am really impressed with the amazing quality of the trackage and how very quiet the ride was. You can be very proud to have this service in your country! Thanks!

      When these Elron trains first appeared, they got appropriate nickname - "carrot"...you can imagine why...

      That was Bald and Bankrupt's "theme" - not to give a fair account, but to deliberately search for the most Soviet and dreary things.

    The Estonian government has approved electrifying the Tallinn-Tartu-Valga and Tallinn-Narva lines in order to increase the speed to 160 km/h, as well as ordering new Skoda trains for these lines. Hopefully you'll be able to come back in a few years to try out the improved train service!

    the disabled toilet design is genius! over in the uk we now have stadler units (finally!) and i noticed how clever it is to put the flush button at the end of the sink area to only press the button with clean hands. strange they kept the layout basically identical for the uk models except they put the flush button in the usual spot next to the toilet.

    Amazing! This is honestly the best video done on this train route, it seems like it was made by a professional filmmaker.

      Just without the mountains. It has similar climate: humid continental climate, warm summer subtype.

    I stumbled here when looking for proof on how the (foldable) tables on our trains suck because I can't be arsed to get onto a train while writing a complaint e-mail to the company.
    But that aside... About the wifi: they've disabled all video streaming. And in some areas there's no 4G either, so that sucks. Roads? No problem, 4G guaranteed. Railroads? Nope, that's the 1% that's not covered. The number of people on the train looking to use mobile internet isn't helping either.

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info on the wifi. Could very well be TH-cam that did not work, did not check other pages.
      Certainly not the worst trains in the baltics but room for improvement:)

    I actually think it’s strange that Elron only run stadler trains however trains in Estonia do remind me of some UK operations but it not sure why

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a small country and the fleet is not very large so it's probably easier to have much of the same

    • @tundmatudiivan5916
      @tundmatudiivan5916 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's mainly because Estonia has Russian gauge railways and cannot easily rent or buy new trains from Europe. Elron replaced old Russian/Soviet trains with the Stadlers in ~2010 and hasn't been able to get new ones yet.

    • @eesti919
      @eesti919 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually new Škoda trains are arriving soon and will begin to run on Tallinn-Tartu route. All trains are Stadlers because back in the day, Estonia decided to switch out the whole rolling stock at once. It was a huge investment but it has sure paid off.

    Oh, so this is a diesel train. How much there are electric trains in the Baltics?

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All 3 baltic countries have significant levels of electrified railways, but it's mostly only near the capitals for commuter trains

      @@Simon-Andersen The electrification of Tallinn-Tartu route will be completed this year (2024), Tallinn-Narva will be electrified by 2028.
