      It was so rad to be able to spend some time with him again I’m hoping we can reconnect after his journey through Europe.

    Tell Rob he had the cuff flaps layered wrong- that's why he couldn't tighten the buckles more. The narrower flap goes on top and fits between the ridges on the wider flap.
    The inconsistency he felt on the makios was the skates, not the ledge. The downside of the Aeon being all one piece means that they're also all the same material, and they have to compromise between it being hard enough to grind well and soft enough to flex enough and be comfortable. So you end up with a boot that's a little stiff and harsh on the foot, and a soul that's a little slow and inconsistent, especially as they wear in.
    This is why the Sliqx slider wings exist- to replace the soul material with something better for grinding.
    An updated Aeon 60 with more shell sizes, an improved fit and cuff, some dual injection to improve the soul speed, and a slightly reworked frame would be a killer skate. The unibody concept is great but just needs some tweaking.

      Pretty sure that was my fault! 😥

      @cfronin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed. I regularly switch between my m12, Salomon ST8 and aeons and the aeons just don't slide well. They are my easy/sloppy skates to try new things on little overwaxed curbs by if I want precision and control they are not my skates of choice. They also feel very cheap which was not a problem when they were entry level price, but nowadays they are way overpriced for the quality you get.

      @BeachBumBarbecue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I came here to say the same thing. The buckles were done wrong. I think a reworked version of this, with replaceable harder soul blocks is the future. Either from USD or a competitor. I want the 72s, but second hand M12s, and used Oysi frames complete, were way less expensive.

      Usd carbon 3s best skate ever I’m sure the ag10s are amazing carbon fibre is lighter and stronger than plastic and aluminum frames let u grind forever with no wax .
      I think skateboarding wouldn’t have a problem with inline if we had metal frames cuz u would never use plastic turcks on a skate board 🤷‍♂️

      @@JanWelch oh man... I started skating at 14 years old in 1999 in my neighborhood with no pavement on a dirt road. All I could do is street skate uptown which is 10 miles away. I didn’t have a driveway to skate on until I built my own house and forked over three grand about four years ago. I understand your struggle!!

    These Lomax’s are my third set of Aeons i’ve had and i absolutely love them. I have tried many other skates inbetween skating Aeons, but nothing feels as good or gives me as much feedback. I’d say straight out of the box the Aeons are one of the absolute best skates on the market. I also swapped out the lace hooks for some straps and i can get them the perfect tightness.

      I just scooped up a pair of the original green ones that were basically new. Man those are some good skates. It's been a long time since I skated, and I have tried a bunch, but these are going to be all I skate now. Fantastic

    I know what Rob Is saying about the 45 strap position. I need the strap to be at the crease of the ankle, where the leg and foot meet. I feel like the aeon and USD carbon have the straps position weird. The straps are too far forward and going across the instep (more downwards than in towards the heel area). In fact this also was not right for me on my xsjados. I just couldn't get the positioning quite right. Currently riding cj2 prime and I lace them all the way up and in combination to the strap I have enough customization to find the fit I need.

    • @JanWelch
      @JanWelch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like straps because I’m usually too lazy to fully tighten my laces! 😂 I’ve never skated the Seba, but they look amazing!

    I skate the basics 60 for a while now. Only changed the lacehooks with a strap and the heel lift problem was solved. I think these skates are one of the best responsive skates i skated on. And realy lightweight, that makes flying around so much better! And les of an effort

    The 45 strap on the previous Lomax works incredibly well. There is an obvious clench point where you feel it lock. The lace lock hook system is total garbage and USD should abandon it and go 45 strap on the non skinned boots. The skinned versions have more lace holes and work just fine without 45s, but I think the plastic version with a 45 is the most solid lock that they have released so far.

  • @Jayc_e93
    @Jayc_e93 ปีที่แล้ว

    You buckled it backwards. Hard to explain but The flat plastic part goes over not under the other with the two guards on the top and bottom. Also u can trim that piece if u want to go tighter with the buckle. It has secretions on the back of it.

    I drilled 1 final set of lace holes just above the last set (there’s space). That and a long hockey lace through the boot and the liner all in one, zapped the heel lift. Double bonus that you only need one set of laces. Also, my pair had the 45 degree buckle, I removed the buckle and just laced through the hole that was there, for support in that area too. Might work!?

    • @JanWelch
      @JanWelch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohh that sounds cool too. I’ll see how I like the strap before I start drilling. But thanks for that feedback!!! 💕

    • @benrosen2000
      @benrosen2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Going off this suggestion I tried lacing my hockey laces all the way through the liner for the first time today….. oh man what a difference!!! Thank you for the recommendation! I never understood the concept of heel lift, until I tried this and immediately realized “ohhhh that’s what I’ve been feeling this whole time”. Skates truly feel like they’re part of my feet now, thanks again!!
