While even further from a remake than VF1-in-VF4, I liked how Capcom added "recreations" of single player SF1, SFA, SF2, SF3, and SF4 in Street Fighter V. While it functionally was just SFV with restricted rosters, Capcom put a bit of effort into it. In a few cases where a character wasn't available, Capcom used a similar stand-in (such as using Balrog for SF1 Mike or G for SF3 Q). Also to help fill gaps, "appropriate" characters were sometimes added to a "game" (such as SF1 also including the Final Fight characters). Each "game" offered endings for all of its available characters, either recreations of the original endings, or completely new endings for stand-ins or new characters. Characters would receive retro/vintage outfits when available. When available, minigames and even secret boss conditions were included. Etc. It was a neat extra mode, and made a nice playable way to catch up on the history of the franchise.
Soul Calibur itself look like a 32-Bit game in the arcade but when it was released on Dreamcast was an amazing 128-Bit masterpiece. Killer Instinct Gold was similar too, while KI2 was 2D using FMV for the arena in the arcade, in the N64 version everything were remake in 3D polygons while keeping the 3D render sprites from the arcade.

The difference between remaster and remake is quite clear by definition. A remaster means they took the original data and ported it to more powerful hardware that could output closer to the original master. Something like Grandia 2 or Okami where the games were made with much higher resolution than the hardware could handle so they had to be downgraded. When they port the master files to a more powerful system, they no longer had to scale them back. A remake is when they have to actually create new data. my first time coming around your channel, this is a dope video. I'll share my opinion on why fighting game remakes are uncommon: 1. The core player base preferred arcade perfect ports for most games in the early days (and those were rare), so for the most part, people prefer the arcade originals (this is also the same for the rhythm game community). 2. Anytime a new version of the game is made (SSF2T: HD Remix, USFII,) it tends to get ignored. HD Remix did have a buzz around it but the game caused a divide. Now there are Super Turbo players, and HD Remix players, because the games just aren't the same. But competitively Super Turbo is still played. Even Hyper Street Fighter 2 (Super Turbo's first sequel) gets ignored in favor for Super Turbo 3. Most of these old games got yearly updates, similar to Madden, NBA live and the like, and were also being released as separate titles. Now-a-days these updates are DLC. Try to remember buying Street Fighter 4, then Super Street Fighter 4, then the Arcade Edition Patch, then Ultra Street Fighter 4. 4. Just make a sequel. As much as I'd love a "Playable" Street Fighter 1 with its whole roster, I just know it'll never happen. Especially since there is a world narrative in these fighting games. In this regard, SF Alpha 2 is really a remake of SF Alpha 1, not a sequel as it serves to undo everything SF Alpha 1 did.
HD Remix was indeed stifled by maximum download sizes. They had to remove the intro, and if memory serves, they had to ask Udon to redraw all the sprites because they were initially too detailed. The removed intro is on TH-cam (incidentally, it's animation is worse than the original...). There was an article, I believe, from 2007 or so that had side-by-sides of an old, overly-detailed sprite and a new one that made it into the final game.

Do all that and I think we'd have a pretty good Castlevania fighter.

Tekken Tag tournament is still special. It was the only Tekken to bring back all the players from Tekken 1, 2, 3, and even add never before seen players... And I believe it had Tekken bowling, which my wife would play with me.
@@baberuthless YEAH THAT MAKES SENSE 😸 It's been a long time since I played KOF '94 Rebout (and I didn't play that much either), so for a moment I had doubts as to whether the pop-ins were from the game or not. 😅 Keep up the good work, you're one of the few content creators whose video I watch regardless of the topic (and I love the topics you cover). I'd love a hd remix of 3rd Strike, and the super turbo to be available on pc! I just found this channel and I wanted to say: great video! New sub here!
Demakes are fun. It'd be neat to see it done more often. Also, it blows my mind that they have VF5 almost fully playable in the Yakuza/Like A Dragon games on PC, yet there's no PC port for VF5.
I love Ultra Street Fighter 2. Best version for me as it doesn't have the crippling difficulty of SSF2T and I love the character customisation and artbook.
Though it's not official, there's a fanmade remake of Street Fighter 1 made with Mugen which is pretty cool, and my favourite fighting game series, Asuka 120%, is comprised entirely of remakes lol
*Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers* is definitely and totally one of THE Best Epic *Street Fighter II* Remake Games there is for the Nintendo Switch System!
My main takeaway for why fighting game remakes don’t happen is the replay ability of these games and the meta as well. Third strike wouldn’t be third strike anymore if they change the balancing of the game and remade some of the directions taken like the sound chun li makes when she whiffs a button.
Yeah...KOF 94 Rebout was unnecesary. The only possitive some of the remix tracks (AST) are very good Makes me wonder why SNK didn't just make a remake of KOF 95 After all, '95 was an updated version of '94 Imagine a remake of KOF 95 with characters more "balanced" and with the roster of the original 95 roster plus the American Sports Team. 😊 Edit: I really wanted a remake of KOF 2001 I don't hate the game, in fact I really like the unique gameplay and the striker system. If only they hadn't rushed its development.
If I remember correctly VF Remix was released in Europe for half the price AND it came with the CGI renderings on a bonus CD (which were released seperately in Japan). We NEVER got the 10th Anniversary version though in Europe.
Yes, we did. But we never got to buy it. There is a promotional disc for Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary that was given either to the press or as a prize is some sort of contest (I have no source for this). But is has been released. I own one of these discs because I got lucky on a for sale listing once but it's an expensive thing to get nowadays. It's strange that even with the PAL version of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, it's unavailable. It just isn't on the disc there. Odd...
Sometimes a full graphical tweak can happen while still retaining the original engine. Are they a full remake then? Eh, I guess it depends on your definition. I was so used to the PS2 version of TTT, when I got around to finally playing the arcade version I was shocked at the difference in graphical fidelity. It's a tragedy that HD Remix wasn't ported since that console generation, we really need a port for computers.
Clayfighter 63 and 1/3 was also gonna have a remake for Wii which was probably gonna be the definitive version of that game if they did it right. Instead what Interplay did was not release it, not release anything, and then wait in the wings for some fan to do a MUGEN game so they could Cease and Desist them. That's where the REAL money is.
I think a key problem is that with a single player remake, you can add new mechanics and mix and match with the content as seen fit. With multiplayer driven games, there is the fine line on how much new stuff you want to add/adjust without changing the core mechanics and roster most people expect to be, and how much would rather just merit a new game/title at that point, Like with KoF 94, if they spent a higher budget with the sprites and added new mechanics and perhaps changed a few moves anf shit, is it still kof 94? From a business standpoint im sure companies are aware that a new game in a competitive series sells more than a remake, and several games have proven that for the worse. I have had this happen in a rts mod im working. Core mechanics affect a lot of player perception and muscle memory and while some qol are well received, many think they detract of what the spriit fo the game is. In short, they are by definition, divisive
Very good point, I think yes to your question on if they did a revamp of kof 94 it would still be a remake oer a reboot. As long as it has the same Plot and charcaters then that essence is still there. If the mechanics are refined and perhaps not replaced, I think that adds to it being a remake too. but like you said theres a fine line. Like if KOF 94 played and looked exactly like KOF 15 Id say its a remake still but if it played like KOF 11 with its tag mechanic thats harder to argue a little.
As much as i play the games for the plot, the reality is that the marketing point is pvp imo. At least thats how i see it. But i think in perhaps older games. What happens when you add sf styled parry to sfa for example
I kinda agree but I'm fine if they just give us the original release and add in extras to it like Crapcom did with the 30th anniversary collection of the arcade edition of SF2 World Warrior, New Challengers, Turbo, Alpha 1, 2, 3 but they didn't include some of the console exclusives to it which I hated. Now I gotta keep the console version and the Steam version because Crapcom was too damn lazy to port over characters and their stages. They didn't even provide a true 16:9 version to the early SF2's. I would like Crapcom to release a Darkstalkers collection, I want a Dead or Alive collection of 1, 2.5, 3 and 4, I want a Tekken collection of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (maybe 6 too) and the Tekken Tag series with extras to it like again a true 16:9 . I would like a Samurai Showdown collection too, a King of Fighters collection, a SNK vs Capcom port to Steam, a Soul Calibur collection, and a Virtua Fighter collection.
Dead Or Alive PS1 port is also a remake of the original Dead Or Alive, where they use a different engine than the original, which uses the same one as VF2 the arcade version of this exists as Dead Or Alive ++
algorithm going crazy sending me fgc vids by women content creators. subbed to this and Joi within the day. Great vid/channel. Where were all these fighting game loving ladies back in the 90s/2000's lol.
think a remake for a fighting game could happen like for tekken(tbh remember that the most of 7 including all the endings of 16/tag & the commercials/pachinko.) & mvc(origins had the darkstalkers resurrection problem of being digital for something that should've been physical/should've included x-men vs. street fighter.) with how a lot of people want x-men 97 to crossover into the marvel vs. capcom games like a remake of the original or a special episode appearance/season cliffhanger tease.
i don't know if i should call it a remake, but the zeebo, verizon wireless phones and some japanese phones featured a tekken 2 port with enhanced graphics, it has no more wobbly textures and slightly better looking models, unfortunately it features a midi soundtrack and for some reason the tekken 5 announcer voice lines, it's not possible to emulate it yet unfortunately
Forget a remake I just wish Disney would let us get modern releases of the marvel games. Other than UMvC3 and MvCi you need to pull out something older to play these games legally.
Your thumbnail didn't have your strawberry on it, so I scrolled past it several times the past week! I just thought you were some run-of-the-mill YT channel and didn't read the username. I guess I really should read the usernames lol.
It's fascinating how there are very little remakes of fighting games. Cause this generation specifically is obsessed with remakes. Guess we're stuck with official emulated versions and hd remasters
@@theartcrusader759 it is fascinating though. With other genres, I can think of so many games that benefit from a remake. But I can't think of two for fighting games. Maybe the first street fighter. But that's stretching it. Good remakes takes the good and bumps out the bad. But with street fighter, that's just street fighter 2. So I have no idea how you can have a fighting game remake except for graphics
"It just bums me out that in a time when remakes are more prevalent than ever that we don't have any for fighting games." Given how some modern remakes turn out, *THANK GOD.*
I didn't like the look of Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix at all, it looked flat and uninspiring. 2D sprite art FTW. DOA 2 Ultimate was the best DOA in the series and best remake, you know your fighters 👍
It was so stupid of Sega to not wait a few months and release the Saturn with Remix instead of that garbage initial Virtua Fighter. First impressions matter and Sega blew it royally.
Good question! Fatal fury 1 is pretty up there, but also pocket fighter and capcom vs snk 2. None of those sprites are bad at all of course I’d just like to see what brand new sprites would look like for those games
I would say that just an update like with SF 2 turbo. Even though it has new stages, characters, music and balancing that’s still an update since it uses the same sprites and mechanics of 02
If only HYPER Street Fighter II was also a remake, instead of an outdated iteration. The game lacked 3 things: • An option where players can choose between the classic graphics and sprites, or the modern Capcom vs. SNK style graphics and sprites. • It needed a 6th mode called "Hyper", where all of the characters have secondary Hyper Combos, such as Ryu's Shin Shoryuken, and Guile's Sonic Hurricane. • There also needed to have "Normal", "Champ" and "Turbo" versions of Akuma, Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long and T. Hawk.
KOF '94 REBOUT is such an insult. They could have used the KOF '98 and KOF 2002 sprites and moves but they prefered to keep the original system. I know it would have been lazy but a better game on looks and mechanically.
Any time I hear the name Darkstalker it makes me sad. They will make thousands of street fighters but Darkstalkers 4? Sorry that was off topic. I would love Tekken 2 remade, I know everyone likes Tekken 3 but I loved 2. Knowing my luck they would remake it and only put it on Play Station.
i wish darkstalkers hd remix happened(especially as darkstalkers/capcom's other fighters are way better than street fighter 2.:3) as i remember that & sota toys originally making a darkstalkers line-up. weird virtua fighter kids & the anime are the closest that series came to having an actual story. remember that g4 interview for dead or alive. do love rebout's intro(especially remembering mai shiranui is shorter than yuri sakazaki.:3) & the cameos(does make me wish they had some playable.) but kof 94 hasn't aged well. instead of that pointless way of the hado mode/evil ryu and violent ken would've loved a mode replicating the animated movie's events & adding alpha characters(like sakura, karin, sodom,r. mika & dan hibiki.) as what ifs like alpha 3 psp/gba.
it's crazy to me that tekken tag tournament's PS2 version *still* looks fantastic. definitely one of the best graphically aged titles

Some titles you referred as "remake" are not remake actually. Both TTT1 and SC1 were basically "visually updated" versions on the console.
The Darkstalkers 3 remake getting rejected is depressing, that sprite looked absolutely gorgeous.
Never knew KoF 94 had a remake, I'm actually interested in trying it.
I'd like a visual-only remake of Street Fighter 4, that retains the Daigo Ikeno art direction but gives the models more polygons
Kaiser, uma grande cerveja. A cerveja dos momentos felizes...
Baberuthless ❤back at it again!
HD remix was incredible to experience. I loved the rebalancing and I’m a bit salty the music from that game is stuck there.
Tekken Tag tournament is still special. It was the only Tekken to bring back all the players from Tekken 1, 2, 3, and even add never before seen players... And I believe it had Tekken bowling, which my wife would play with me.
Tekken bowling in tag 1 was so phenomenal ! Even my parents played that mode
The KOF '94 Rebout footage has some bugs and stage pop-ins that I've never seen playing on my PS2
Didn’t capture the footage on a ps2 👀
@@baberuthless YEAH THAT MAKES SENSE 😸
It's been a long time since I played KOF '94 Rebout (and I didn't play that much either), so for a moment I had doubts as to whether the pop-ins were from the game or not. 😅
Keep up the good work, you're one of the few content creators whose video I watch regardless of the topic (and I love the topics you cover).
P.S. I'm sorry if there are any errors in the comment, I translated everything using Google Translator. My English for listening is great, but for writing it is quite rusty.
Kinda crazy that Tekken Tag Tournament has had 3 releases for three different systems.
Would be cool to get a Tekken 3 remake.
Yo Marvel vs Capcom collection has been released ❤❤❤❤ let's go 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!
Nice video!
I was hoping to see KoF2002UM but since i already know about that one,it doesnt matter, i didnt know about the sega ones so thanks
Man DOA is an amazing fighting game... talk about a series that still looks killer by today's standards
Though it's not official, there's a fanmade remake of Street Fighter 1 made with Mugen which is pretty cool, and my favourite fighting game series, Asuka 120%, is comprised entirely of remakes lol
4:00 and then imagine if you could play this game in the Tekken Lounge against other people
*Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers* is definitely and totally one of THE Best Epic *Street Fighter II* Remake Games there is for the Nintendo Switch System!
I actually remember my dad having Super Turbo HD Remix on PS3. He always beat my ass in it. I have gotten better at it though
I actually get a crazy amount of decent matches of USF2 to this day, considering it's on the Switch and everything.
Wish I could say the same. Maybe I tried playing at a bad time ?
My main takeaway for why fighting game remakes don’t happen is the replay ability of these games and the meta as well. Third strike wouldn’t be third strike anymore if they change the balancing of the game and remade some of the directions taken like the sound chun li makes when she whiffs a button.
It would be cool if Third Strike got a remake with some new characters like Sagat, Juri, Zangief, Laura, Sakura, and Jamie.
1:36 The Sega Model 1 is incapable of textured polygons, so "barely textured" should be "no texture at all".
Yeah...KOF 94 Rebout was unnecesary.
The only possitive some of the remix tracks (AST) are very good
Makes me wonder why SNK didn't just make a remake of KOF 95
After all, '95 was an updated version of '94
Imagine a remake of KOF 95 with characters more "balanced" and with the roster of the original 95 roster plus the American Sports Team.
😊
Edit: I really wanted a remake of KOF 2001
I don't hate the game, in fact I really like the unique gameplay and the striker system.
If only they hadn't rushed its development.
I wish Bandai Namco Remake Previous Tekken Games using the Recycled Asset from 8.
I never played Soul Calibur 2 Online Edition. But from I hear, the frame rate was off. I also never played MVC Origins 🙁
I love USF2, it's a lot of fun for what it is, and I hope it gets ported to other platforms eventually.
Odd...
Oh yeah, that's right. It was an item for promotion and not for sale. :/
13:25 shout out to my man Robert de Niro
Babe Ruthless
Straight outta Cobra Kai LOL
Nice
Clayfighter 63 and 1/3 was also gonna have a remake for Wii which was probably gonna be the definitive version of that game if they did it right. Instead what Interplay did was not release it, not release anything, and then wait in the wings for some fan to do a MUGEN game so they could Cease and Desist them. That's where the REAL money is.
Oh man I forgot all about that, I keep hearing updates on a new game too but I know nothing is gonna come of that
You should've mentioned some of the demakes to portable, like SF2 Turbo Revival, Tekken Advance, or Battle Arena Toshinden for the GB.
0:32
Ah man you forgot to mention the amazing 94 Rebout intro though!
Your right 😭
I think a key problem is that with a single player remake, you can add new mechanics and mix and match with the content as seen fit.
@@Alevice No your right about that too. Gameplay is paramount when it comes to fighters
Dead Or Alive PS1 port is also a remake of the original Dead Or Alive, where they use a different engine than the original, which uses the same one as VF2
the arcade version of this exists as Dead Or Alive ++
algorithm going crazy sending me fgc vids by women content creators. subbed to this and Joi within the day. Great vid/channel. Where were all these fighting game loving ladies back in the 90s/2000's lol.
I’m still waiting for a rerelease of SF2 HD Remix.
Bloody Roar comeback + remake >>>>>
#JusticeforMichelle
think a remake for a fighting game could happen like for tekken(tbh remember that the most of 7 including all the endings of 16/tag & the commercials/pachinko.) & mvc(origins had the darkstalkers resurrection problem of being digital for something that should've been physical/should've included x-men vs. street fighter.) with how a lot of people want x-men 97 to crossover into the marvel vs. capcom games like a remake of the original or a special episode appearance/season cliffhanger tease.
i don't know if i should call it a remake, but the zeebo, verizon wireless phones and some japanese phones featured a tekken 2 port with enhanced graphics, it has no more wobbly textures and slightly better looking models, unfortunately it features a midi soundtrack and for some reason the tekken 5 announcer voice lines, it's not possible to emulate it yet unfortunately
Forget a remake I just wish Disney would let us get modern releases of the marvel games. Other than UMvC3 and MvCi you need to pull out something older to play these games legally.
Well I have news for you
Your thumbnail didn't have your strawberry on it, so I scrolled past it several times the past week! I just thought you were some run-of-the-mill YT channel and didn't read the username. I guess I really should read the usernames lol.
great video!
It's fascinating how there are very little remakes of fighting games. Cause this generation specifically is obsessed with remakes.
Guess we're stuck with official emulated versions and hd remasters
Honestly with how pissed fighting game players can get just because of a balance patch it's understandable why we get so few fighting game remakes
New video hype
I've been wondering, why the "ruthless" in the name when you give off such a pleasant and chill energy? Or maybe you're ruthless on the sticks?
Haha thank you but I can only wish I was ruthless on the sticks 😅
@@baberuthless haha, well i can still respect the pun that's present at least.
Crazy how the KOF 94 remake looks like they threw on an emulator and put 20 smoothing filters on it.
No filter ever improved details on sprites
@@PAKA62 FACTS!
@@KennyPham I meant that the sprites were remade, not filtered
Cutting down background characters in the SSF2T remake has nothing to do with file size lol whoever said that is blowing smoke.
I feel it was more so they were rushed but I’m not a game designer so they could have insight I’m not privy too.
"It just bums me out that in a time when remakes are more prevalent than ever that we don't have any for fighting games."
Given how some modern remakes turn out, *THANK GOD.*
If KOF 98 UM, & '02 UM Considered a Remake or an Update?
I didn't like the look of Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix at all, it looked flat and uninspiring.
2D sprite art FTW.
DOA 2 Ultimate was the best DOA in the series and best remake, you know your fighters 👍
It was so stupid of Sega to not wait a few months and release the Saturn with Remix instead of that garbage initial Virtua Fighter. First impressions matter and Sega blew it royally.
@baberuthless
Late to the party but you said all the remakes you wanted would need new sprites…
What remakes would you want?
Good question! Fatal fury 1 is pretty up there, but also pocket fighter and capcom vs snk 2. None of those sprites are bad at all of course I’d just like to see what brand new sprites would look like for those games
@@baberuthless CVS 2 in the style of SF2T HD, or just drawn? Or like 3D models? Or just better sprites?
Definitely not hd remix style. But just something brand new it doesn’t have to be 3rd strike level
"Goofy shit," that's funny.
Kof 2002 unlimited match is missed here. It's a completely new game compared to the original 2002
I would say that just an update like with SF 2 turbo. Even though it has new stages, characters, music and balancing that’s still an update since it uses the same sprites and mechanics of 02
If only HYPER Street Fighter II was also a remake, instead of an outdated iteration. The game lacked 3 things:
• An option where players can choose between the classic graphics and sprites, or the modern Capcom vs.
Hawk.
Does anyone know the name of the song at 18:20?
KOF '94 REBOUT is such an insult. They could have used the KOF '98 and KOF 2002 sprites and moves but they prefered to keep the original system. I know it would have been lazy but a better game on looks and mechanically.
I just want a Tekken 3 Remaster with Tekken 8's graphics.
Good video. I can't remember where music on 16 minute comes from. So I need the song name
Kof 2002 unlimited match. Mai’s team theme
@@snootlongbottom thanks a lot!
this such great video love all the effort put into it such good memories with the fight games
i wish darkstalkers hd remix happened(especially as darkstalkers/capcom's other fighters are way better than street fighter 2.:3) as i remember that & sota toys originally making a darkstalkers line-up.
weird virtua fighter kids & the anime are the closest that series came to having an actual story.
remember that g4 interview for dead or alive.
do love rebout's intro(especially remembering mai shiranui is shorter than yuri sakazaki.:3) & the cameos(does make me wish they had some playable.) but kof 94 hasn't aged well.
instead of that pointless way of the hado mode/evil ryu and violent ken would've loved a mode replicating the animated movie's events & adding alpha characters(like sakura, karin, sodom,r. mika & dan hibiki.) as what ifs like alpha 3 psp/gba.
tekken 2 on the zeebo
Having played that version extensively I’d say that’s barely a remaster
Intereresting.
