  • This is truly the most interesting reel in my collection. An ABC print of the show, with the tags and bumpers intact!

    In the fall of 1965 (in syndication), Ricochet Rabbit moved from "MAGILLA GORILLA" to "PETER POTAMUS"- and Breezly & Sneezly from "PETER POTAMUS" to "MAGILLA GORILLA". Magilla's titles (and the "we'll be back next week" bumper) were refilmed to reflect Breezly & Sneezly's presence.

    The network began showing "MAGILLA GORILLA" on Saturday mornings in January 1966 [11:30am(et)], through September 1967. New epsiodes were mixed with repeats. Ideal Toys was still the primary sponsor (they sustained Magilla's original syndicated series), but ABC also sold time to other advertisers.

    "The Magilla Gorilla Show" that i saw aired on WPIX-TV New York-now owned by Mission Broadcasting-ended with the Screen Gems dancing sticks. Glad that it didn't end with this at 4:44

    1:21- Daws Butler is the "Del Monte Tree" (using a varation of his "Lippy the Lion"/"Peter Potamus" voice, which itself was a variation of his Joe E. Brown impression).

      I also remember a rock and roll version of the Del Monte commercial…in the style of Do The Bear. Both were done by Hanna-Barbera so all Ted Nichols had to do was change the lyrics.

      Capitalism at its finest: canned goods--modern convenience, means both Mom and Dad of the nuclear family (2.5 kids) can both go to work, make 2x more money, buy 2x more things, and be better than the Jones' across the street (think: George Jetson). The sugar load and preservatives from these convenient canned goods is where obesity today comes from. Notice how thin everyone is in the old shows, such as Lou Grant, and how large we all are today--the supersizing of America.

    0:00 is the B&W variant of the ABC “Color” bumper with no voiceover. It should’ve said “This is been an ABC color presentation”.

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      For those affiliates who couldn't colorcast the network's programs, they used a black and white version without Michael Rye's disclaimer.

    A possible opening sponsor I.D. would have been an "ABC" I.D.- like this (at 0:39)-
    *ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY: "ABC- where I'll be seeing you in 'BEWITCHED'! Thursday night, on most of these ABC stations."*

    Nice work! Too bad it was not shown on the DVD itself. Hopefully, the original opening and closing titles should be restored for a Warner Archive Blu-ray release, along with "Top Cat", which possibly restore the original episode end credits for the show.

    It's rare, to me seeing "Breezly and Sneezly" on the show. I usually see "Ricochet Rabbit" on the show

    • @acholl980
      @acholl980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      During the second season Magilla and Peter Potamus switched their supporting players so Ricochet ended up on Potamus and Breezly vice versa. When it went to syndication the two shows were combined since there weren't enough shows to release them separately and was all just release as The Magilla Gorilla Show.

    Hey, the gang has to go
    That's the end of our show
    (So long, so long, so long!)
    You know we'll be back
    But for now we've got to go
    (So long, so long, so long!)
    It's been fun (yes, sir!)
    Every crazy minute
    There's a show next week
    And we'll all be in it
    To make a long story short...
    (So long, so long, so long!)
    Magilla Gorilla and all of his friends say
    So long, so long, so long!
    They're sorry to go but the show has to end, so
    So long, so long, so long!
    It's been great (yes, sir!)
    Every fun-filled minute
    There's a show next week
    And they'll all be in it
    To make a long story short...
    So long, so long, so long!

    @3:24 - I was born in 68 and watched all of these characters. But I have no memory of this closing theme song. Did they discontinue it after the 60’s? Also, what year did they switch to color?

    • @TheProjectionistsVault
      @TheProjectionistsVault  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was most likely discontinued after a certain point in the '60s. It might've changed after the show went off of ABC. I also can't give you a date for when all stations were using color versions of all the tags and stuff...
