Man what a great demonstration of the air ride! It has way more range of motion than I thought!🇺🇸💪

I have the factory air suspension on my 2020 RAM 2500 and mostly love it. At 42,000 miles I had the passenger side air bag rupture (while towing) which immediately disabled the air suspension. No parts were available for at least two weeks in Arizona so headed back to Utah. Since there are no coil springs in the rear, it made for an extremely rough ride home (850 miles and we left the trailer in Arizona). I had both airbags replaced (one on my own dime) and the dealer recommended I only use Normal Height for towing. I have always towed my Airstream 30' on Alt Height. I checked with another dealer who also recommended only Normal for towing. However, as I meet people across the country while RVing, they almost exclusively use Alt Height and I just found a RAM video that also says Alt Height was created for towing. Given the low payload, I'd purchase the 3500 next time around as I have to be VERY careful about staying under the payload requirement for the truck. RAM confirmed that I was never overloaded and that is why they covered the ruptured airbag under warranty. When not towing, the ride is great.

What is the warranty miles and or time period for the air ride components?

I have that on my 2021 2500 and it is amazing to tow our fifth wheel

The air suspension system is very nice and I’m positive that truck would pull your trailer just fine. There’s a but though, and that’s the low payload. 1700 pounds is not enough I don’t think if you were going racing lol. 1000 pound hitch weight and that only leaves you 700 pounds for every thing else.
The truck would do it for sure, but if you’re trying to stay within the numbers that particular truck would be overloaded unless you go racing by yourself. I always have 4 people, sometimes 5 and may as well say all adults because my daughter is 13 and 5’5.

What "package" is the air suspension under so I can filter for it when looking for a 2500 with it on websites?

I have a 2022 Ram 2500 Cummins. If I have the dealer install airbags, does that void my factory/extended warranty? How much extra weight do airbags enable you to tow?

I have a new Tundra with factory airbags... can you do a video on setting up a truck with auto type airbags and hooking up a WDH ? Not sure if your suppose to disable it then hook up wdh fully then hit the switch ?

I tow a 39ft bumper pull toy hauler with a 21' Ram 2500 short bed. It pulls it okay when I get on interstate with semi's passing get some sway (I guess it is sway). I normal run around 65. I like the mega cab and was curious if the extra length would help with the sway. I know 39ft on the bumper is some of the problem, I thought I wanted a dually but as a daily driver I do not think I would like one.

I had a 19 dually, daily driving less than ideal due to limited parking and extreme rough ride.

look into the pro-pride hitch or, better yet, a 5th wheel.

Do you used anti-sway bar weight distribution hitch when towing trailer on your dually, or just the factory air ride to level? Thank you in advance.

Had to edit to fix up some spelling.JB you need to watch the video on using air bags versus an equalizer hitch to level the vehicle. It would be interesting to see what Ram has to say about the results. I would like to know your views on it after you have watched the video? Could you investigate this?

The one thing I didn't noticed on the video of setting up an equalizer hitch with air bags is he should of added 1 to 1.5 " to the ball height to compensate for the truck squatting to keep the trailer level.

  • @calvinbatts4483
    @calvinbatts4483 ปีที่แล้ว

How about we talk about functionality?? Actual use and driving? I know you cant use this truck because its for sale but I need more info. I understand the systems and seeing "the squat", but how bout when the rubber meets the road: 2500 w/ air ride vs. 3500 with leaf springs, say towing a 12k to 14k trailer. How about unloaded? I'm leaning towards a 2500 w/ air ride for the smoother suspension for the 95% of the time I WONT be towing with the truck, however, can the truck handle a light to medium weight say 5th wheel camper well?
Lets leave the "payload" out of it for now.... we know there's issues with those numbers and government regulations. Lets just talk about physical capabilities and what's realistic.

I just had my right rear airbag pop. I only have 7,000 miles on my truck. I bought it from the dealer with a 8” lift with 37” tires. I had it towed to the dealer 3 miles from my house. They refused to touch it because of the lift. So last night I towed it to the dealership I bought it from. Hopefully they change my airbag without any issue. I want them to change both since one went, why not change both. Well I guess I’ll see.

Air bags over the axle are more designed for towing a fifth wheel trailer then with a bumper pull trailer. An equalizer hitch is a better choice for towing a bumper pull trailer. If you use air bags to level the trailer you loose weight on your steering axle, with the possibility of loosing control of the vehicle in certain conditions. This video explains the difference between using air bags versus an equalizer hitch. I do like the new mirrors and options this truck has.

That's not true. Air bags serve a different purpose than a weight distributing hitch. In the terms of this auto leveling system, you just need to set up your hitch correctly knowing that the truck will level and change the angle of the hitch head. I have this system on my 3500 and set up my WDH so that I had no height change at the front of the truck. That is necessary when using a WDH no matter what you pull and what you pulling with.

Payload is too low like a 1500.
You need to go with a 3500.
