A couple of Arnold movies that I don't know if you've reacted to (at least I don't remember seeing you react to them) that you probably should are his Conan movies, Conan The Barbarian, Conan The Destroyer, and to an extent Red Sonja (technically he's not playing Conan in that movie, although rumor has it his character originally was supposed to be Conan buyt it had to be changed for legal reasons). If you haven't reacted to them yet, then please do. I think that you'll really enjoy them.

Arnold’s The 6th Day is fun.
I think the cat cop was a reference to McGruff the crime dog because the majority of the movies and tropes are from his 80's.
You guys should watch some of Beat Takeshi's movies, they're great. I would start with "Brother." He's like the Japanese version of Tarantino.
Sharon Stone is lighting a cigarette in front of the police station as her character from Basic Instinct. Arnold and her were in Total Recall together.

A very underrated comedy. I think people didn’t know how to take it when it came out, which is too bad.

As for Slater's daughter's screeching, I always assumed she just did that so that other intruders would thing that the sounds of stuff breaking was due to her getting hurt, not dishing it out.
My take is that she has the trope look of the slasher horror movie victim, who constantly scream as they're being chased/attacked.

When it comes out it was on the heels of Arnold’s big action hits. So audience wasn’t expecting a parody of action movies. People expected a Terminator type movie and got a comedy and it didn’t do well. But when judged on its own as a action comedy it’s a great movie.
Jurassic Park didn't help either.
Jurassic Park being released like 2 days prior didn't help either.
Though it did pave the way for him to do some other comedies and people to expect it so people weren't as taken aback by True Lies

Fun Fact: Alan Rickman was supposed to play Benedict but due to salary he declined and Charles Dance wore a T-Shirt on set that read “I’m cheaper than Alan Rickman!”
Shame. Rickman would've been an absolute beast with parodying a movie villain. He has literally made his career doing exactly that. Rest in peace, Hans Gruber.

Benedict is one of my all time favorite villains, because Charles Dance plays his so well. And that monologue where he says "If God was a villain, he'd be me." is just so perfect. I loved everything about his performance in this.

Loved this movie. It was hilarious seeing him poke fun at HIS genre. Fun fact: There were Oscar winners and nominees in this movie. Also you saw the liquid metal Terminator actor coming out of the station, but you missed Sharon Stone on the other side. Lol!
Ian McKellan here played Death of Ingmar Bergman's movie The Seventh Seal. A movie EVERY cineast should watch.
It has its casting issues , talking about Nils Poppe (Jof /Joseph) who was a great comedic actor , todays movie world its like having Rowan Atkinson doing serious role .
@@pete_lind He was one of the best parts of the Seventh Seal. I loved his expressiveness. There are plenty of examples of comedians becoming great dramatic actors, including Rowan Atkinson.
Nils Poppe has done a few other dramatic roles so he's not just a comedian.
I love this film. I love how Charles Dance stares right down the barrel of the lens when he realises what the real world is like. It's a fourth wall break from within a fourth wall break.

In Milos Formans Film "Amadeus" F. Murray Abraham plays Antonio Salieri, who... well... kills Mozart 😏

Amadeus is a good watch for them. Its good and Tom Hulce is AWESOME as Mozart

@@wolf9walker The opposite of this was Rambo II, which Siskel & Ebert said was the only good movie out that week. Surprisingly good. Two thumbs up. Then Ronald Reagan said he liked it, and people started counting bodies. Russia called it an American fantasy. This rubbed off onto Swartzeneggar movies. Then in the 90s, Siskel & Ebert referred to it on their special as an example of the worst movie making.
Didn't it come out the same week as Jurassic Park? Case Closed.
@@sathanimations1457 Jurassic Park was an event. I work for a software company at the time, and the boss took time off for all the programmers and we went to watch the movie premiere.
@@Sentinel3D I was in America (I'm Scottish) on holiday for JP. It was amazing with the American audiences, people running out during the raptor scenes, the awe and wonder of the Dinosaurs and that score. Anything that was out at the same time as Jurassic Park would've been crushed by its momentum

I think this is a highly underrated movie. It was considered a flop because it cost so much to make, and didn't do well in the theater, especially since Jurassic Park was still new in the theater. I think the biggest thing that hurt it is that people mostly did not get that it was a parody, because they gave it such a real feel mixed with the parody/comedy. This is one of my favorites of his, and I have seen it at least a hundred times by now. Who can't enjoy the famous comedian Arnold Brownschwagger?!

I actually never liked it. It's too cheesy.
It's not a good movie. It has some funny moments and the premise is inspired, but the execution is off, the kid is annoying, and it drags at times.
I would like to see someone try to do this again though. The meta trapped in a movie thing can work if done right. Isn't It Romantic? with Rebel Wilson for example.

When I first saw this movie (in the theaters), my jaw dropped when I saw Anthony Quinn, a super serious actor in his early and middle part of his career, playing Vivaldi. Anthony Quinn, 4 time Academy Award nominee, and 2 time winner. His roles lightened up considerably later on in his career. And I loved it!
"Time After Time" has the same statement about (at that time) modern day society. The premise of the movie is where H.G. Wells pursues Jack the Ripper into modern times. When Wells finally catches up to him, Jack shows him that he (and his actions) are perfectly at home in that society. It's a good movie. You should watch it.
Watched this multiple times one summer vacation at my local theater. Definitely a fun memory. So many cameos, you missed Sharon Stone as her Basic Instinct character right outside the steps of the police station lighting a cigarette. Such a fun movie!
Dang! We haven’t seen Basic Instinct so maybe it didn’t catch our eye as quickly! But we should have at least recognized her haha!

@@TBRSchmitt I can't believe you didn't recognize Charles Dance aka Tyrinn Lannister of Game Of Thrones. He plays the bad guy Mr. Benedict. He's very young in this so I imagine you're probably used to seeing him with grey hair.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie. This movie was way ahead of it's time when it comes to meta comedy. All the troupes like cars in movies always blowing up, the angry black captain, and "odd couple" buddy cop partnering all were things movies like 21 Jump Street pointed out but this did it first. Charles Dance as the villain killed it. That moment when he harmed a hair on her head was such a boss move. Him being just a henchman and then realizing he could take over as the main bad guy is awesome. Highly underrated movie and so glad people are finding it today and giving it the recognition (at least I feel) it deservers.
I was 19 when this movie came out. To my memory it was marketed as an "Arnold" movie instead of the parody comedy that it was. People expected terminator and predator and didn't at the time process it as naked gun and airplane coming from Arnold. It truly is a great parody film.
I was the target audience. The kid is like a year or 2 older than me. I took it exactly as intended. Arnie tropes, movie cliches. It was fun then but its soooo much more fun 30 years after the arnie action era
This exactly. Combine that with its competition being Jurassic Park, and it was kinda set up to fail in its theatrical release.
It was definitely mismarketed at the time. They didn't play up the absurdity of it in the marketing.

Both had a "James Bond" as an art thief.
Some "fun" facts, but murder clearance rate in the US hovers between 50-62% depending on location, so on average if you kill someone, you have 6/10 chance of never being held accountable. Since a lot of murders involve someone you have a history with, if you kill a stranger on the street without an eye witness and not on security camera, odds are very good that you just get away with it (although don't stand in a white suit screaming into the streets that you just shot someone).
So, when the villain kills a guy, it does go to prove the point that safety is an illusion and the real world is nothing like the movies.
Yea, it’s a sad statistic. Crazy that it gets worse dependent on where and when you are. I remember a few years after Katrina the rate of murders being solved in New Orleans was around 8%. Absolutely nuts to think you could kill and your odds of getting caught if you are the least bit careful are next to nil.
Today you have an extremely high chance of being seen on a camera of one type or another.
To add to your point, in movies, when someone is attacked, it is the cue for the heroes to appear. So he look around expecting someone to appear around the corner to save the day

I've seen this so many times. So underrated. People said it was corny and predictable. Um, the whole movie is a satire about action movies. lol
It’s interesting to see how you recognized certain big name actors and not others. Like you seemingly don’t know Anthony Quinn (no reason you should, I guess), and thought McKellan was a huge star (but this movie was before Magneto or Gandalf). It really highlights how perspectives are different or can change over generations.

Sure. But when I saw the movie in theaters I had no idea who he was, and I’d wager most audiences watching the movie didn’t. Undoubtedly he had a long career already, and was a good actor, but had nowhere near the fame he has now!

This and True Lies are my favorite movies with Arnold, but this one has a fond memory attached to it. I grew up in a small town, and we didn't have movie theaters. I'd watch loads of movies with my family on VCR, and I would go to the theaters during vacation trips in my teens, but in those occasions I'd go alone. However, every now and then, when my mother was working late, my father would drive me to a larger town nearby and we would watch a movie and then eat something. It was kind of a father-and-son bonding thing, and it was great. The very last time we did it was to watch Last Action Hero and it was just a great time we had together. :)

Cool fact Austin O'Brien and Arnold Schwarzenegger actually went car shopping and boot shopping for Arnold's character Slater because Arnold wanted to look for the perfect car and boots for his character and I loved your reaction to this lesser known Arnold film glad you two had fun.

I love that Stallone is the Terminator in the movie-world. This was around the time when Arnold and Stallone were really huge rivals and I always liked that they made fun of each other in their movies. Stallone has a reference in Demolition Man where Sandra Bullock talks about the Schwarzenegger presidential library, so it went kind of back and forth.
I think Damon Wayans is a reference to The Last Boy Scout, where he costarred with Bruce Willis. Also a great movie to react to!

"Meredith" is played by Bridgette Wilson. The kid mentions in this film that it is her first movie. This movie is actually Bridgette Wilson's film debut. She was also in Mortal Kombat (90's version) and The Wedding Planner.
I absolutely loved how she mentioned that “she is missing so much cool stuff in the background” ...... meanwhile F. Murray Abraham (Salieri from Amadeus) is right in front of them. Hilarious. ;) Now you know what movie to watch next. Loving your reactions.

I freaking love Last Action Hero. It was panned 30 years ago, but the fact that it’s getting so much love years later warms my heart.
I see that others have mentioned the characterization of Death in this movie from Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal," which is also worth watching because it's such a classic. The portrayal of Death from that film is so iconic that it inspired the version depicted in "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" as well.
This movie is a huge satire to action films in general. I remember when my dad and I saw this in theaters. The amount of cameos that are in this movie that Arnold has worked with overtime was just great for me from your Robert Patrick to Sharon Stone great stuff. Even Whiskers the cartoon cat was voiced by Danny Devito.
You can tell these people are young they didn't even Mention that the dynamite box said ACME
Love your enthusiasm when watching movies. Some of the characters were characters from other movies (eg the lady standing outside the police station before you see Robert Patrick’s T1000 terminator was Sharon Stone’s character from Basic Instinct whereas the cartoon detective was a non specific homage). It is a very clever film with loads of famous stars. Did you recognise the mob boss? - Anthony Quinn, Danny’s mom - Mercedes Ruehl and the list goes on…
I still remember seeing this movie in a old Times Square theater just a few doors down from the one they filmed the opening scenes in. It was a blast. I loved all the cameos and callbacks!
“This guy can’t catch anything” expertly showcases how well written this movie is. It’s phenomenal. The multiverse before the matrix and def marvel.
The " Dont Touch" explosion scene always breaks the laughter out of me til this day.....I used to have the part only recorded on VHS to re watch over and over as a kid hahahahahaha
Arnold actually made really good choices about the movies he chose. Early in his career he did play in cheesy action movies and playing on his physique to get roles. What is really nice to see is that he then used his reputation and fame to get into really good movies and not sticking to those "bad" movies. They might be a bit cheesy still, but in the best way and not be just cheesy.

I really enjoyed this reaction. This movie came out when I was in Junior High and I loved it. I must have played the VHS dozens of times. I hadn’t seen this in decades and it was fun seeing it though your eyes. After all these years it still holds up and seeing two adults enjoy it for the first time now only confirms in my mind how underrated this movie is. Thanks again.
Last action hero was way to clever for the time it came out mad that no one got the joke of the movie when it came out Shane black, Zak Penn and John Mcteirnan nailed the comedy and the spoofness of the action genre so well, as well as making it a kickass action movie

I've always loved Slater telling Arnold "You've caused me nothing but pain." Legitimately one of my favorite movie lines.
That scene where his daughter was killing that guy while screaming, she was doing it so the people outside the room would think she's being raped or beaten. So they did hear her, but thought it was normal.
It took me years to realize that. Lol.
For your next action actor to watch, you should watch Sylvester Stallones movies, like Tango & Cash, Demolition Man, Stop! Or my mom will shoot, Cliffhanger, Judge Dredd (not the new one), The Rambo movies and the Rocky movies. If not, you could watch the movies of Jackie Chan, though those are not as mainstream as action movies in the west).
The 'new' Dredd with Karl Urban is also amazing.

@@malelonewolf80 You are definitely in the minority on this - and not just compared to actual comic fans. I'm glad some people like Stallone's version better because I think it maybe gets more crap than it deserves, but Dredd is a better movie and a better depiction of the character, imo.
@@MrZampanov I have not read the comics, so I cannot speak on that behalf. I just found Dredd, with Karl Urban, to be a more generic action movie, not particularily rememberable (perhaps that is not a word, I am not a native English speaker) than Judge Dredd with Stallone. But then I like the original movies, that I grew up with, better than the newer versions of the movies. Newer movie versions like Robocop, Total Recall, or the Dredd movie with Karl Urban. As for the Dredd movie, it has better special effects and such, I just find that it lacks the charm of Judge Dredd, and is also a bit lacking in the character arch / arc (unsure of the correct spelling of that word) of the main character of the movie. But each their own taste I guess.

Finally!!! Thank you SO much for watching this! When we were kids in the 90s, every one of us associated with Danny - we all wanted to be visiting our favourite movies. What a ride!
Great reaction as always. Yeah this is one of his films that doesn't get the recognition it deserves and I'm not sure why. Could be that it came out around the time of True Lies and has just been overshadowed. Remember seeing this when it came out and really enjoyed it.

I think it didn't get the recognition when it came out, but by now it is a cult classic and whenever people talk about it, it's only positively.

My favourite thing about this film is how the shooting style changes between the fictional world and the real world.
I feel like this film was underappreciated because people didn't want the meta-commentary at the time they wanted escapism of an Arnold Schwartzenegger film, and that's the same reason people don't like new projects he's been in because he's been typecast as everyone's "safety blanket" of nostalgia if he changes then the 30-year-old toddler clutching that blanket also has to recognize change is possible and not always for the better. I think this movie served as a gut punch to too many Americans. I think that is also the reason why the most recent Terminator film was held in such high regard even though I don't think it's that great, but Arnold reprises his role and pretty much starts where he left off, so everyone was like, "10/10, would recommend!"
Tom Noonan, the only film I can think of that he was in that y'all might have watched on the channel was Manhunter, but he's been in a ton of stuff including Synecdoche, New York; Mystery Train; Heat; and House Of The Devil.
If y'all haven't seen The Seventh Seal, it's the classic Ingmar Bergman film that Ian McKellen's Death comes from.

Wooo!!! This is on my list of all time favorites that I could just have on repeat. I did watch it in the theater and since the theater owner felt bad for a lonely kid, I got to watch it twice a night for a week free. Great times. Great memories. Sad that it bombed and is kinda on the low end for most people. But for me...good stuff. 👍

One of my favorite parts of this movie is when Benedict is talking to the camera, you can briefly see the camera dude in the reflection. It’s such a subtle and meta way for the villain to recognize they’re in a movie.
A great reaction, guys, I'm glad you loved this. Definitely a very underrated movie, I think at the time was eclipsed by Jurassic Park, that opened at the same time (this movie has a reference to it in the tar pits), but people has appreciated it more and more with time. Is a very clever movie that is more enjoyable the more you are into the type of movies it comments on and you are knowleadge of its tropes, specially Joel Silver actioners of the time, Lethal Weapon and such... They even got the great Michael Kamen to compose the soundtrack. He has a nice callback to Lethal Weapon music when the cop says "3 days to retirement", a Murtaugh line.
I think you didn't catch Sharon Stone playing her character from Basic Instinct just seconds before the T-1000 in the police station. At the time that was a great cameo
Last Action Hero came out the same year as Jurassic Park. In fact they were both part of the summer blockbusters. Anyhow, the reason that this film is underrated is because Jurassic Park basically blew all the other movies out of the box office.
I grew up with this movie and it's one of the first I ever watched with my dad and holds a special place in my heart. I love this movie so much and I'm so glad you two really enjoyed it.
One of my favourite Arnie movies , so underated and a big cult classic. You can tell how much fun everyone had making it. Not to mention Charles Dance is just chewing the scenery in it. Also that sound track is fantastic.

Fun fact, the MiniDisk player in this movie was a product placement. They came out in 1992, the same year the movie was filmed. We thought they were next level technology back then 😊

This is literally my favorite Arnold movie. Directed by one of the greatest action directors ever, written by one of the greatest action screenwriters ever and the only movie ever to be advertised IN SPACE.
We always said this movie had THE most intelligent bad guy (Benedict) in movie history. His brilliance of keeping one chamber of his gun empty so he could trick the hero out from behind his cover. Brilliant!!

I saw Last Action Hero when it came out in theaters back in ‘93. I absolutely loved it then and I still think it’s a brilliant and underrated film. Definitely ahead of it’s time as far as being a commentary on the action genre, and I love that Arnold was on board with basically spoofing himself and his persona.
I was working as a projectionist when this movie came out... loved it so much.

This film was way ahead of its time (in 1993!) Everyone that brought it into existence should be very proud!!!

The actor at the premiere you were struggling with was James Belushi. He did sitcoms on TV as well as some movies. John Belushi of SNL was his brother.

One of the most under-rated Arnold movies and movies in general IMO, such a brilliant and fun take on the silliness of Hollywood action movies, so good!!!

I remember watching and loving this flick as a young kid. There were a ton of references I totally missed back then, but there’s so much to enjoy with Last Action Hero. I went over a decade before viewing it again and actually forgot about it for a lil while. So upon watching it again it gave me this great feeling of nostalgia with all the great movie references and one liners. Loved how you both enjoyed everything the same as me about this movie. Arnold definitely had a ton of hits but personally this one ranks near the top for me as well.
This movie has a heck of a soundtrack. Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and people still listened to CDs, this one made heavy rotation during the mid 90s in my CD player. Definitely recommend checking it out.

After all these years I only now realized that the old man who is Jack's second cousin Frank was played by Art Carney, best known as Ed Norton on the 50's tv show The Honeymooners. This was his final film role. I guess you can say he... (puts on sunglasses) went out with a bang.

I love Sir Ian McKellen! Whenever I think of his acting, the 1998 movie "Apt Pupil" always comes to my mind first. He is so sinister in it. That was the movie that introduced me to his awesome acting.
Just to bring it up, the actor who played the Ripper (Tom Noonan) was also the Tooth Fairy/Francis Dolarhyde in Manhunter and Cain in Robocop 2. He was basically parodying the Tooth Fairy here.
The killer was Tom Noonan. You saw him as the tooth fairy in manhunter.
Also the drug manufacturer in Robocop 2 (whose brain goes into robocop 2 by the end of the movie)

Arnold was a big sport about parodying himself, pushing his cliches to their limits at the very peak of his comedy career and at the tail end of his large-scale action films. It was a unique and fun social commentary on the world and entertainment of the late 80s and early 90s film.

Funny, FUN, scary at times, action packed, social commentary, breaking the forth wall, poking fun on him self(both Arnold and the director). Phenomenal.
This movie reminds me a lot like Deadpool, from start to finish, with all the craziness and fourth wall breaks!
