Acknowledged as one of the best Mario games of all time, Super Mario World is a must see for fans of classic games. This run completes the game fully (all 96 exits) and makes use of almost every known glitch to make it as fast and exciting as possible.
This TAS by bahamete ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/b... ), Kaizoman666 ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/K... ) & Masterjun ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/M... ) is an improvement of 06:43.97 minutes over the previous movie ( tasvideos.org/577M ). The improvement comes from new glitches and better optimization.

Such is the nature of a great entertaining TAS. The TAS of Crazy Taxi had me thinking of things I never thought were possible because I "played it safe." "WHAT THE HELL, YOU'RE GOING LIKE 120 MPH BETWEEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHILE DOING LIMITER CUTS!"

I'd say they're absolutely entertaining to watch though and show what is theoretically possible to do in a game's mechanics. Taking the time to show off all these tricks is half the entertainment. Haha

When my friend and I first played this in the early 1990s, it was magical. It was incredible.
This game truly set the standard for the 16 bit systems
When I was a kid, I thought it was crazy that Mario could lift an entire castle and throw it away like nothing.
I was so young and naive back then.
Mario tears through fabric of reality with his cape and pet dinosaur, travelling through impassable blocks and creating new items from thin air to his likings.
I love how Mario speedruns focus on "showing off" a lot of the time. If there's suboptimal stuff in there or stuff you can't skip, you might as well make it a spectacle.

@@miwiki6 There are a few different ways IIRC. You can input button presses for each frame or play in slow motion. It's not a computer program running wild, it's bahamete, Kaizoman666 & Masterjun programming Mario to do exactly what they want, when they want.

@@gjwaldie Today I was testing my mario world hack for the umpteenth time. I was in the forest of illusion (the level with the bob-ombs), I lose Yoshi and enter the tube. As soon as I get out of the tube Yoshi gives me back with that graphic. So yeah, I guess it can happen while you're playing normally. Here's the proof:

This video deserves a lot more views. Seriously, the amount of knowledge about memory mapping, game mechanics, and exploits you need to pull this of is ridiculous. Secondly, the amount of time it takes to make inputs for every frame is ridiculous. If these guys wanted to hack just about anything, they could.

@@jacob8693 to make good use of technical game exploits, at least in SMW, you need to know how the game works internally. for example the glitches with yoshi that let you spawn new objects involve out of bounds memory reads, enemy slot manipulations etc.. you can even make the game execute code from out of bounds memory pointers

Would love to see videos like these with commentary on what exactly is going on and how the tricks are performed. As much as these videos are pretty kick ass to watch the commentary would make them top notch entertainment. Thanks for the work and wonderful display!
I remember watching a show on TH-cam that did just that. It tried to provide commentary on a lot of different TASes. But it was only in French, so you wouldn't really be able to... you know... understand the commentary and everything. It was called Speed Game, if I recall.

I'm glad it's there. I had a score of 95 as a kid for years and probably would've been still looking for new exits if not for that star. Like, what game stops at 96 instead of 100?

Yeah going into the “night sky” with wings converts yoshi blue. Those levels are always supposed to involve a return to the main level which would convert yoshi back to green, but the run bypasses that through i-have-no-idea. It interesting that on the level chooser map yoshi remains blue. It makes sense from a programming perspective how that might happen if you have a centralized “yoshi color” access point

Hammer Chuck, the secret mount that Nintendo didn't want you to find.
Probably it was never intended to ride on a Yoshi there and Yoshis Sprite isn't loaded with the level, so the game tries to display the sprite which it thinks is loaded in the correct Adress, but since it isn't it displays some weird madness... That or the TAS glitched the game yet again and messed up with the Sprite Values. One of Both.

Mario took advantage of some quirks of the game's sprite spawning rules to spawn a Koopaling boss. The Koopaling is invisible and glitchy, since it wasn't initialized correctly, but it can still be killed and the level will still end upon its defeat.
Its similar to credit warp glitch mario do a thing that he cant do then the game bug and someting wierd happens

This one is the glitchless part I remember doing after seeing my neighbor did it, when we were kids.
This 2-player co-op is great for everyone and any generation, I really like this game and how this speed run turned out to be a perfect play through. It is so entertaining, and amusing to watch this game being speed ran I hope to see more like this someday

Retro Game Mechanics Explained has a fantastic video on some of the glitches that end the levels early. In particular that I remember, he explains the glitch where Yoshi duplicates the goal tape to finish the level early and the glitch where blocks are duplicated over dragon coins to get unintended keys and yoshi wings ( th-cam.com/video/1SGfYkXoGjg/w-d-xo.html ). A lot of other interesting info about the minutia of the game's mechanics as well.
