    Hey, good honest review. I have gone through three 1Dx bodies. Agree with you on the overexposure, confirmed around 1/2 stop most of the time. However regarding AF I had a similar problem on one of my bodies but confirmed it was an issue with the camera and CPS fixed it years ago now.

      Glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues! I had CPS take a look at mine when they were replacing the shutter but apparently everything was within spec. I upgraded to the 1DX II and love the camera so much. It does everything I want it to and does it amazing. I'm sure I'll have my camera for the next 5-10 years with how perfect it is!

      @@AleksUsovich interesting CPS didn’t pick up on it, but honestly it depends who checks it and where.
      Good move to the Mark II, I will upgrade one of mine and see how it goes. Question for you regarding the mark II - is there more noise in low light situations? More color noise with the 20mpx sensor? I’m sure if anything the difference will be slight

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regarding the noise, I've noticed about much less noise in my photos taken at at higher isos without any noise reduction in camera. The color noise appears to have decreased as well or is much less noticeable. I've shot night skies at 12,800 - 16,000 iso and didn't even need to apply any noise reduction in post. That wouldn't have been the case with the 1DX.
      Plus having the ability to shoot 4K at 60fps or 1080p at 120fps is an amazing upgrade.
      The autofocus of the 1DX II is beyond phenomenal. It grabs focus and keeps everything in focus- I've got a series of burst photos with about 80 photos taken with my dog running towards me with every single photo that is tack sharp. I couldn't believe it when reviewing the photos.

    I have had my 1Dx for 3months and have taken 10 - 20 thousand photos. Never had an issue with the AF! Tact sharp on bird and wildlife. I use the 70-200mm F2.8L II and the 100-400mm with a 1.4 extender. NEVER a missed shot unless I made an error. So not sure what is going on with your camera.

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had more missed shots with my 1DX than a 1D IV for wildlife with a 400mm F/4 and a 300mm IS with extender. It focuses just fine for portraits and landscape but was a hit and miss for bird photography. Camera was sent to Canon with everything found working as it should. I've since upgraded to the 1DX II and absolutely love the camera. I've shot 60 pictures in a row without the camera missing focus for a single frame which is absolutely astounding.

    I'm guessing the AF issues were down to incorrect AF setup. I wonder if the eyepiece dioptre was out? Did you do any af lens micro adjustments and check focus? Just cos you get good focus with one lens on one body, doesn't mean that that lens will mate well with another camera. Battery usage, given your location, I'm guessing is down to cold temperatures. Polarizer sunglasses? I never use sunnies. Bad for your eyes (they fuck with averted vision).

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      AF issues was not due to incorrect AF setup; similar settings were used on my 1DX II which focuses 100% correctly but the 1DX missed focus consistently. Eye piece dioptre was there. Extensively messed with micro adjustment; lens microadjustment was correct, the body would not consistently focus on targets even static targets. Camera was put on tripod and aimed at photo on wall and would somehow miss focus 3/10 times. Zero issues in same scenario with my other camera bodies. Camera was sent to Canon who said it was within specs. Not sure what the issue was with battery usage since my 1DX II doesn't have these issues.

      @@AleksUsovich 1Dx and 1Dx II are NOT the same camera. The II has phase detect, the 1Dx not.
      Many others have reported much improved AF OOTB with the 1Dx over the mark IV. They can't all be wrong. Logic would indicate that you were doing something wrong. Not trying to be rude, just using logic to work through the problem(s).
      Battery usage levels don't sound right either.
      I've had dodgy support from Canon many times in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't find their own ass to take a shit lol! Excuse the bad language, us Aussies do like to swear and we do like to call a spade a spade.

    Could it be that the 61 AF points were getting confused? I have a 6D with only 11 AF ponts, but I only EVER use the middle one: spot focus. I always focus and recompose with the BBF or just shoot away in burst on birds and crop compose later.

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Autofocus points weren't getting confused. Camera must have had some sort of issues. My 1DX II works flawlessly without any issues.

    I suggest to add some image samples and explain about the camera. no one like to watch a video where there is only talking

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've got neither of these camera anymore so no go for photo sample. I've got another video that talks about the camera more in depth. This is more informal info from my personal use for people who care more about using the camera than caring about what the specs are.

      In my applications, the 1DX does not focus well. My personal 1DX is not the issue and gets inspected and calibrated by Canon Professional every year. The L series lenses have no issues either. My 1D IV locks on to more targets than this 1DX.

      500 shots with GPS and occasional live view plus some video shooting. Lens IS was on too. Was using the LP-E19 battery with 2 bars of battery health.
