    Yea, I assume this could have been a lot simpler
    Instead of saying DB1, Row 1, etc, try to use some REAL life examples that can be connected to each other
    This video will make people confused, everyone is here to learn it in a simpler way

      Ok thanks for the feedback.
      From conversations with people, using rows and databases helped them get their head around what is going on.
      Obviously doesn't work for everyone. I will keep that in mind 😁

      I have the same feedback. For a similar video about creating templates inside a page, @danny had used the generic Heading 1, Template 1 etc. to explain and it only created further confusion. Notion itself uses generic headings (like Heading 1), so it's difficult to figure out which is the generic Notion heading and which is the example heading.
      Thanks for your effort in putting these videos out. Really appreciate your generosity.

    Can you give examples of use cases please. I am wondering apart from your navigation points what are the advantages of this as opposed to normal linked databases?

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not quite sure what you mean by normal linked databases. This is the most common use of linked database, by storing them outside of another and using a linked database inside the page of another. This allows for self-referencing filters and many other viewing options whereas, if you store the database inside a page template you would duplicated version of the database.
      example: Project DB and Task DB with Task DB linked inside the template of the Project DB.
      Hope that helps 😁

      @@DannyHatcherTech I think what this commenter means, and what I also know would be useful to me is to have actual databases with real world content, so we can see a real life example of why one might want to put a database inside a database. Also, having real world content helps the brain to track what's going where and why that makes sense. As opposed to saying DB 1, Row 2 goes into Database 2 row #whatever. It's like: HUH? As you switch back and forth between the databases and rows in your video I am completely lost as to which database and row and column you're in and why you'd even want to link them that way. It's just a tangle of meaningless (to the viewer's brain) numbers, rows, and columns. You might as well be putting Japanese in the cells; a non-Japanese speaker just sees randomness and the brain can't latch on or interpret the meaning. I don't' mean to be critical, and I really appreciate you taking your personal time to cover this issue which is seriously under-represented on TH-cam. However, I'm just trying to make it comprehensible to you why so many commenters are telling you we don't understand.

      @@christinaensalata1233 I believe @Danny Hatcher made the video to show what is possible in Notion-answering the question that you can put databases inside other databases, for quick navigation and referencing purposes. The video proves a point through concept. It is up to you to apply this proof of concept to your own real world scenarios and situations. It won't make sense until you make it make sense.

    Hi Danny . I am stuck on something pretty rudimentary. If I create a page and add 1 data base.. then want to add a second database on the same page - in your video you just click the cursor on the empty page below the first database table - and the option to forward slash-select just pops up. Looks simple. But in my case when I click outside the 1st data base nothing happens. No forward slash option to create anything new,. Literally just no possibilities appear on clicking. Any tip for this beginner? Thanks

    This does not work for all circumstances it seems. I have a database with both English and Dutch entries and those are also divided in different topics. I want to filter on language and on topic. If the template page has a relation property to a inline database in the same template this link still points to the template database and not to the new created database if the database page is created from this template (Notion add a new link property instead of changing the existing so it points to the new created database). Is this a bug?

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 2 types of pages, a page and a database page.
      A database page only holds the information for 1 database which is the type you are likely in.
      Then there is a page which you can put inline databases in.
      Go to a page, add an inline view of the database you want and then go below it and add another database 😁

    H Danny, thanks for your great work ! Though sometimes hard to follow your videos are some of the best I've seen about NOTION anywhere. I have a complicated question ... Do you happen to know if it is possible to link to a database inside a database. Let me explain myself... I have a Projects Main Database and a Ressources Main Database. Inside Ressources. I have a Cinema database. And inside Cinema I have one database for Directing one for Photography...etc and inside those Directors, shots, D.O.P... etc and I'd like to know if there is way from a project database to create a Ressources Relation and inside that relation make it so it relates to : directing or producing or photography... etc. Or do I have to create a relation to Cinema in order to relate to the databases inside of it ? I mean is there like a code to tell the Ressources relation : in Ressources relate to Cinéma and in Cinéma relate to Photography and in Photography relate to D.O.P (something like: RESSOURCES>cinema>photography>DOPS...) ? It be great if you could tell me. And thanks a lot anyway ! VC

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi great question.
      Databases are not really in a hierarchy in Notion, they are all essentially at the same level. In order to get that sort of feeding loop you would either need to use a rollup to show the relation is, if your just looking for feedback or use self-referencing filters or auto filters to make those relations.
      If they are all different databases then yes, a relation property would need to be made in each database for the link to work.
      I hope that helps.
      I am always happy to talk. You can grab a call from my website if you want some more help 😁

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by databases but a relation property can only link to one database.
      So you want to link 3 database to a database you would need a relation property per database.

    If I have 3 projects (Project A, B and C) and they have the same fields.
    Now I want a single database/inline-table to show all tasks from the 3 projects (including its fields).
    Is it possible?
    -- I'm asking this because I already have 3 big projects full of tasks and I don't want to recreate them all inside a single Inline-Database-Table :S

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If each project is a separate database you can't show them all in the same database view but you can have linked views on the same page.
      If you want all of the projects in the same database you can do a quick copy and paste over to speed up the process assuming the properties are the same.
      If you are comfortable with csv import and export you could export the database information to a csv, combine the information and then import the information back into Notion, just an option 😁
