One thing I didn't quite go over fully in this video is the Cargo Run mode. Cargo Run is a roguelike singleplayer mode that you have to use Cargo Run Tickets to play. When you buy the base game, you start with 15 Cargo Run tickets, and you can claim a free ticket once per day. Now, the mode is built to be rewarding enough that most runs will pay for the next one, but if you play a lot of Cargo Run there is the very real possibility that you will eventually find yourself soft locked out of the mode until you buy more Cargo Run Tickets.
The Devs have explained that the reason they did this was to avoid Cargo Run monopolizing the player base and suffocating the PvP matchmaking. Now, whether or not you think this is a good reason to lock the mode behind a soft paywall is up to you -- personally, I think that the game is more than generous enough to cover this and if you really just binge Cargo Run nonstop, then you'll probably get good enough at the mode to pay for your runs with rewards...but I can totally understand why that would be off putting to some. Personally I'm in agreement with the devs that the mode needed to be gated somehow to keep the focus on PvP, but that's just my opinion.
Hope you enjoyed this video and that it was helpful for you!

Update: There is talk on the Discord about potentially removing the soft-lock from this mode. So the devs are listening! :)

@@chaostheory2326 personally don't care about soft-lock to keep the attention on PvP.
However in my personal opinion, if I am paying an upfront cost to get a game, I should have access to all the playable characters immediately, and ANY premium currency should no impact what-so-ever on gameplay. I'm all for paid cosmetics, but nothing gameplay related should have anything to do with real currency (Free or Paid game)
(After posting this initially, I just realised, this comment may sound negative towards this game, it is not intended that way. I think this game has implemented things in a nice way that is very player friendly, unlike other similar types of games. Just trying to put forward my opinion and spark a conversation or discussion on the subject with others.)

I think the big problem is that its too early to tell. A lot of games start of with friendly Micro-transaction business practices. "We're trying to do it a good way guy's!" And that lures you in. Then when they get a high enough player base or the bills start coming due they start tweaking things in the other direction. I'm not saying that this game will do that. These dev's might very well be committed to a fair business practice...but at the same time, if the game is designed in a way that micro-transactions are unnecessary, why are they there in the first place? Why not just release a game? If they are building a store to sell additional units in the future odd's are they can't keep a business model in which everything can be unlocked inn a few hours of gameplay... Because then the store itself becomes unnecessary.
I really hope this game does well, and I hope that their business practices stay fair and non predatory... But the only way to find out is to wait and see. History suggests that sometime in the future the balance of things will start shifting, As it has time and time again in games that are built like this.

Yeah that's very true. It is definitely early. The Devs seem very receptive to feedback though and are planning some big changes in the next patch, so we will see!

There are games with so much worse monetization out there that get so much less hate. Im so confused if anyone actually plays the game u get everything within an hour or two people are just on a huge hate bandwagon for this one

In my opinion it not only looks scatchy, it IS scatchy. its a pay to play game full of preditory f2p mechanics: lots of different currencies, lootboxes, psycological tricks (like forcing you into the shop asap), gamemodes locked behind time/paywalls, season passes...
real shame, i would have loved to play this game - but i do not support this kind of crap. even more of a shame since i would have loved to experience sandersons lore.
pretty mad atthe devs for such a shitty move and imo all the critism is absolutely justified. dont let them get away with this shit, enough (big) studios do - we dont need that in the "indie" game scene aswell.

You don't have to buy the game to experience the lore. All the chapters come out to podcast platforms(I listened to the first chapter on Spotify).

There are Free-To-Play mechanics in this game, but I think it's really difficult to make an argument for them being predatory. After I recorded this video, I played the game for about 45 minutes, completing my starting quests, opening the rest of my boosters, and demoting one of my Epic rarity units to a Common to gain more merits -- and between all those, I had enough to unlock every unit in the game with some left over.
The Season Track is free for everyone and has no premium upgrade, and contains *tons* of free boosters, cosmetics, and currency. I've been "forced into the shop" only to grab my free captains, free Cargo Run Ticket and to pick up more boosters with the Blanks I've earned. At no point have I felt compelled to spend any additional money at this point in time. In the future, I may want to when new sets release -- but I also will probably have a lot of resources saved up from playing by then too.
The only thing I don't like is Cargo Run being soft locked, and the devs have already been listening to feedback and talking on the Discord about potentially removing that aspect entirely.
So yeah, it does have the free to play elements in there, but the last thing I would describe this game as is "predatory". I feel that I definitely got my money's worth and more with this purchase, and feel no need to spend additional money to experience everything.

@@chaostheory2326 abusing the human psyche through practices like lootboxes, multiple currencies, timegated mechanics and "free"shop goodies is abusive and predatory - thats why you see them in every f2p game. wether they are "fairly priced" or not does not matter. wether they are now standartised for f2p games does not matter.
they are abusive and will always be. games are played by children and teenagers (and even adults can fall trap to these machanics - they are called "whales which is a term coined by gambeling dens). these practices should all be forbidden, no matter if pay2play or free2play.
but as said they are standard in f2p games and in the last couple of years they are trying to push them in pay2play games aswell.
I dispise them and anyone who tries to push them more into the mainstream acceptance.
      and so should you.
