Wow.... just wow! What an interview! There's a lot of reasons Marc is successful, and I am sure his openness, pleasant attitude (as well as extreme ability and work ethic) and willingness to share info is a huge portion of his success.
SOLID stuff. Posted this on the Facebook group within 3 minutes of it being uploaded here and so many people have responded. We're grateful for the knowledge both of you share with us! Thank you!
So nice to see Walter and Marc! Love this. Marc’s talk about fraternity and camaraderie is fantastic. Thank you, Darren Mostyn - for this and for your quality videos.
I have seen Marc in the different forums for YEARS, especially over on Lift Gamma Gain. It's nice to actually SEE him haha this was a great vlog. Thanks for doing this Darren.
Nice to see you both chat and discover how and where Mark’s work. Good job as always Darren. The bit about co-workers sharing tips and tricks reminded me my days at Technicolor Quebec City.
Nice to see everyone. Thanks for the Vlog, Darren. What I great idea for those of us who will miss NAB this year. Very thoughtful. Great to see you, Marc! I miss our long, entertaining conversations. Cara and I hope to be out your way soon.
Much like many others here in the comments, I was more than delighted to get to know Marc a little bit more through your video. He's been always so helpful on the forums like liftgammagain and a lot of his knowledge and tips went into my early days of starting as a colorist in Resolve. That is not to say that I did not get tons of great advice from you over the last few months or years (if you count the killer tips for resolve). It is very much appreciated what you are doing here on this channel and I always love the stories "from the trenches" of professionals working on high level projects. Each little interview feels like a free master class. I hope we'll get a few more great videos out of your trip to NAB :)
Thanks Darren, that was fantastic. Good to see you hanging out with the big boys! Been following Marc’s sage advice on the forums for some years, good to have a look around his room. I can echo Marc’s health advice, grading can be dangerous. Now off to work with my trash can and Elements panel..
Darren, as always a great video ! Very happy to watch an interview with Marc who helps so many people on forums and Facebook groups dedicated to Resolve.
Great interview with Marc. So cool seeing his set up and getting a sense for how he thinks. Also I couldn't agree more with him at the end. It may sound sill, but RSI is a very real thing in this field. Stretch lots, take breaks, and listen to your doctor.
I don't know how I missed this episode, Darren - I'm a long time subscriber and also a contributor to the BMD Resolve forum and I absolutely loved listening to the two of you discussing your professional experiences. Marc is a super forum contributor and we are lucky to have him there. Watching this episode (and not knowing all that much about Marc's professional background), I now have a heightened respect for his contributions to the BMD forum (not the least of which because I'm not sure where he finds the time to contribute to the extent that he does). Thanks so much for posting this. Cheers.
Thoroughly enjoyed the interview and a true professional's perspective of color grading. I did pick up one little useful tidbit that I followed up on and it was the MediaLight desk lamp - I already had their bias lighting but really did not appreciate those the importance of those little lights for my workspace. BTW - they are currently on sale $10 off with free shipping. Again thanks for your insights and let the videos continue.
Grats on your first vlog in the bag! Loved the trip footage and nice to see Walter! I think we can all agree on Marcs assessment of Quinten Tarrentino's passion for film. Not a bad view either from your Hotel room either. Next! hehe
Used to work for bydeluxe back in 2013 , Had no Clue of what i could have learnt more from there... Now that im colourist.. i so much miss it. Seeing the company 3 board reminded of it . Had seen Colour tutorials from Darrens channel but this edit and leading the story till the meet is very clear n engaging. Awesome loved it so far n still watching 🙂🙂
This is soooo good. Man, your editing is really on point at the top of this one. And then to top it off, visiting my heroes in Hollywood. How can I book that tour? Walter and Marc are both great people. I kind of started helping people in the facebook forums as "Paying it Forward" to both of those guys both of which helped me with questions years ago. Imagine, If we looked back as young musicians, and were able to have questions answered by Rock Stars back in the day? What a surprise last night. I get to see three of the people I deeply respect in Post, have conversations - how can it get any better than that? Well, it floored me that you mentioned my name, what a cool surprise. I have heard so much about Marcs studio and there it is. So much cool in one room. Thanks so much for all you guys do. Looking forward to seeing all the Vegas stuff. Cheers Darren.
Ah Jim, good to catch you this morning on Cullen’s Grade school too. I’m having a great time, albeit long edit sessions. was quite anxious about vlogging but it seems people are enjoying it so I’ll give it another few and see how it goes! Mentioned you in Marcs interview because you do such a sterling job supporting up and coming colourists (and established ones for that matter!!). I’m at LAX now waiting to get to NAB. Had a great night with Cullen last night who very kindly let me stay at his house and met his beautiful wife and daughter (and a particularly fluffy dog!). Stay well my friend.
Nice interview. It's always a treat hearing from the best in the business. You should do one with Cullen Kelly too. I loved your little cameo on his recent Grade School episode.
Hi folks, one explanation for driving on the left is that it makes the best use of one's sword arm to clobber the knave coming the other way. Those Europeans were presumably more into clobbering knights with a lance. I suspect the American style has more to do with wagons and stage coaches meeting each other. Or maybe using a Winchester rifle. If you do know, please comment!
Thanks for this, Darren! Marc definitely knows what he‘s talking about and he also helped me a couple of times in all the forums. Would be nice to see more of this content in future!
Thank you very much for these videos! Some technical things are difficult to understand, but it is good to listen to them to internalize them little by little. Thank you!!
After getting good advice from Marc so many times on the FB Resolve group it is really nice to finally know the face behind those comments! Also Marc, if you reed this: Consider getting an ergonomical mouse like the Logitech ergo or even the MX master (not quite as ergonomic, but still better than most normal mice) It really helps avoiding injuries. Cheers and thanks for helping out all the time!
Love this content Darren! Sooooo good! It’s great for me as a newbie to get to see what Marc does. It’s refreshing content! Thanks for taking the time to get it out from your hotel room! 🥰👍🙏😀
Great interview. Having it in his space is awesome to see different setups. As for the audio noise, grab a copy of Waves Clarity VX (just the basic version) for quick and dirty clean ups. I hope you get to do more of this while at NAB (or as I like to think about… broadcast geek Christmas).
I know the audio is bad. I just didn’t have any time. I’m moving on the road and trying to dig as much as possible. I have mics for NAB…should improve. Appreciate the advice though, thanks Bruce.
'I could do 20 videos on that' - Please do! (Well... maybe not 20.) I think it would be extremely helpful to a lot of people to talk about "what is good enough, and what are the tradeoffs?" for doing lower budget/lower stakes work. It absolutely makes sense when you are working hours a day, for years, and affecting the final image audiences will see on multi-million dollar projects to spend tens of thousands on consoles, computers and displays. But there is that entire world of work where those budgets aren't appropriate, and informed compromises have to be made. Also, it turns out you're a pretty decent vlogger!
Did I miss it or did he not Mention what his master grading monitor is? I feel like I saw the LG logo on it, so it must be only for NON HDR content? He says approaching Dolbyvision levels.. but what is it? or can you not say?
This is a very interesting Video. Thank you for this. I have a recommendation for you. Try to use something like the DJI Mic for your Vlog. Sometimes the voice is hard to understand for me. DJI Mic is very easy to use. you can use it on your iPhone or as a standalone. Cheers and keep going can't wait for the next video.
@@DarrenMostyn The good thing about the DJI mic is you can use it as a standalone mic. Just attach them with the magnetic clip hit record and when you edit your video you just download the audio files via USB-C cable no extra software needed.
When Marc mentions doing old home movies, I’m like, “Show us how you do it.” I’m trying to restore old home movies, which are terrible quality. It’s case of making the best with what you have. It would make a great TH-cam video, Darren. Grading quality video…not so hard. Old home movies…now there’s a challenge for you.
Apple cannot be wrong! So everything they make, must be perfect. Or so their dedicated fans believe. I'm sure, you can even find Apple fan boys out there, that will say Apple displays never need calibration.
Wow.... just wow! What an interview! There's a lot of reasons Marc is successful, and I am sure his openness, pleasant attitude (as well as extreme ability and work ethic) and willingness to share info is a huge portion of his success.
Seeing and hearing Marc after years of seeing his name all over posts in every color forum on the internet. Wild day haha
How nice, virtual meeting all those virtual celebs. Its an interesting world. All those people teaching us. Great. Thanks man!
Terrific interview with Marc Wielage. It's validating to see someone with his level of experiencing dealing with the same issues as I do.
Absolutely.
Wonderfull, what a lovely video thank you guys . Please keep them coming Darren, Thank you Marc and Darren.

Thanks Roy. Marc is a legend.
Absolutely AWESOME interview! GREAT video Darren!
Love this! for many reasons, but chief among them is I can now hear Marc's forum posts :)
Thanks for this Daryn! Good to see Walter too!
You are welcome.
So nice to see Walter and Marc! Love this. Marc’s talk about fraternity and camaraderie is fantastic. Thank you, Darren Mostyn - for this and for your quality videos.
Glad you enjoyed it Leo. Was fun to make. I’ve had a great 3 days in LA.
