I actually think the salvage yard angle is what JJ was thinking, she has no idea what happened to the engine after the wreck. The wife got very ill and had to go to a care facility, and the husband was moving in with one of the children to save money. He offered us the car for 3k, we obviously obliged. They were the only owners, barely drove it, and all maintenance was up to date. Deals like that are once in a lifetime. We have full coverage insurance on it, everything from collision to uninsured driver, not everyone can afford that. To be honest we barely can, but this is the reason why we do it. If that car was totaled, wed get screwed like this lady did without it. If I find a 6k piece of furniture for 1k at a flee market or something and someone vandalizes it, I can't replace it for what I paid. As I said before, some deals are once in a lifetime. You shouldn't get screwed for being lucky to get the deal and unlucky to have some idiot destroy it.

You are mixing cause and effect up. These cases end up on the show because they have no licence / insurance. Licenced and insured drivers accidents would all be sorted and covered.
What Kevin said. If someone has insurance courts usually don’t get involved because insurance covers the damages/payouts. People come to court when a defendant doesn’t have it and therefore owes the plaintiff damages out of pocket.
