This topic in my opinion too often tends to paint us FBA's as some how the main perpetrators of the division. As Phil said most of our history we've identified by race, not by nationality, not by ethnicity. What we learned is that this is the exact opposite of what these other non-American groups who migrate here practice. So now we're doing the same as everyone else, and I'm tired of us being labeled as divisive for just following what everyone else is doing. I'm no longer going to listen to some non-American complaining about FBA's being divisive until they show me that they've had these discussions with people other than FBA's and with their own groups...
And Cam is from Harlem, the “Pan African “ headquarters. He know what’s up. Black Americans from other states jumped on the bandwagon all late and is keeping the narrative alive, and they weren’t even around any Africans. Some of us actually know more foreigners than actual Black Americans., if anybody recognizes the difference it’s us (New Yorkers) Cam is in his late 40s born and raised in NYC. He lived his whole life being the only black American in many situations. Then he became a hip hop star, traveling the world way before social media. I love Cam for keeping it real and not tip toeing around the truth. He’s a good source and a stand up man. He could of easily fronted like a lot of them do.
He was culturally raised around that. Just like the Latinos in nyc saying the N word all day. Black Americans from other states don’t understand how we allowed it, but we was all born into this sh!t in nyc. That’s my point. Still doesn’t change his experience and who he is. We all had to survive in our environment. Cam is telling you from his own mouth what it is. Besides, we’re talking about African descendants. Him knowing some Spanish words, having some Spanish swag and flking on Spanish joints during a time in hip hop when Latinos was preferred doesn’t change anything he said. Black Americans in nyc will claim the smallest percentage of anything just to fit in at one time. A lot of black Americans from nyc are more socially connected to Latin culture than their own southern roots. I don’t think most black peoples understand how culture and migration works. That’s why this topic is like filling a bucket with a hole in it.

So you don't think the fact that when Caribbean kids attending school in the US getting teased and bullied for their accent or culture styles has a lot to do with that separation aspect
@claudetheodule5698, Sadly, some lack introspection. Growing up in South Florida, the most abused group was hands down the Haitians. Black Americans were brutal to them. They laughed at their features, culture...... this was in the 90s. I tried so hard to defend them but it fail on deaf ears. I here zero accountability from most. I am half black American and Jamaican. My parents had a mutual respect and love for each other's culture. It's really sad to see the division.
@RamataSy-jn5vl, I am extremely sorry that this was also your reality. I 100% believe you! With that said, I know that you are well aware that no one group is a monolith. There is good and evil in every group. My mother's family was kind to everyone. In fact, my AA grandfather was a follower of Marcus Garvey. I remember many AA trying to connect with their African heritage in the 80s and 90s but that was not the majority. As you stated, many are indeed so mentally damaged that they are pitiful.

We are certainly Black Americans. If Africans born in Africa who now live in America are African Americans then surely we are the Black Americans. Don't get me wrong I love Black Americans but the truth is every BLACK MAN is an African by DNA, whether you are Haitian, Jamaican, Trinidadian or Black American. The thing is you have Black Jamaicans, Black Americans, Black Barbadians, Black British. We as a people don't know enough about each other and our ignorance of each other is our great weakness. Black people have different cultures because of the country they are from, however we need to be more understanding toward each other...
@typhoomantis1172 I don't care. If you don't have a history and know your culture before slavery, any fool 'rapper' can just say anything, and those blind sheep will claim it as biblical. Educated Americans who are black don't have a victim mindset to use color to identify themselves. If we don't call white folks, white Americans, why call yourself black American? Is it because you see yourself inferior enough not to simply call yourself American? It's 2024, use your common sense, and not what any rapper says, who no one in Africa knows or cares about.

I swear we have some of the most idiotic discussions in our culture. This remind me of the episode of the boondocks when the prison was taken over by the prisoners, and they had to negotiate terms. Everything that they listed had nothing to do with their freedom or better conditions of living in prison. It was all vain and superficial. Here, we are now talking about how we should have some ethnic identity distinction because we want to further ourselves from our African ancestry. This is dumb. It doesn't matter if they call us Black American or African American, we're still Americans because it is literally in the title. The people of Black Wallstreet didn't give a d@mn about their title, they cared about building and group economics. Something that Cam'ron doesn't care about because he loves snow bunnies, but that's beside the point. Whites take pride in being of Irish, German, Italian descent, so why are we so opposed to our ancestry? And don't claim that it's because Africans won't accept us because we rejected Africans by accepting the image of Africa that the Europeans created.
Yoooh guys I'm african born raised in South Africa Soweto, recently moved to Connecticut, I do think Killa Cam ain't wrong he is an black American, but also if another American black feels like he is african American his ok also, just remember this are just dum titled given to Blacks in America by whites, mind games, this typo topics are fruitless though, love you, in the USA for a year now, never had a Black American friend they like distancing themselves, i got good ties with Brazilians and Latinos, some how I feel like Latinos have this strong feeling of bn African than most of my Black American . Culture is closer to the heart of the matter and closer than that is values. Younger generations talk about 'The Culture" but there is and has never been one culture - one way we all were? There is no one way of being 'Black". Hip-Hop is now the face of Black culture to the world. KRS-0ne has said "Hip-Hop should be an ethnicity within itself, yet that has been widely ignored by Hip-Hop and Black people in general. The 50 year anniversary celebration just ended and I did not hear any mention about this relatively recent statement by the person who is said to have codified Hip-Hop. One would think it merits as much discussion as the use of the n-word. We were forcibly both here divided by ethnicity, language, and culture and have become more so since, especially with all these new claims and calls for who we are, and what we should be called. FBA talk about we built the country. Are we the architects of it? Would we want to boast about that if we were? The pertinent point is what have any group among us built for themselves lately? The NOI don't even have their own communities. I heard of one attempt in Mississippi, and by the time the children were adults most Left the community and didn't come back to live there. It was an article in the Wash. Post, if I'm not mistaken. No doubt Black Christians would show to be the most prosperous demographic among us, if they all lived in the same communities. The Black Church is not as influential anymore because many of its members don't live in the communities the church is in. Some groups among us have made considerable progress, but it can't be measured, because we haven't built physical communities in the last century. Some call us "Family" but we don't function like one, and so certainly not on the broader level of a nation, which is what most of the rhetoric used by those speaking as if the represent all or most of us suggest, especially around the issue of reparations. It all equates to us gas-lighting ourselves.
Many Africans have European, Arab & Asian DNA. What is this whole unique thing? The EU DNA came from rape. Part of your ancestors were guilty of enslaving the other. Do you see how that complicates reparations? 🤔
Just because we are Melionated don't make us all the same! As long as we choose to focus on petty differences about identity, about things that should not matter, we will continue to be dominated by WS. United we stand but divided we fall. It amazes me how people get so wrapped around the axle about things they can't control. Call yourself whatever you like and they will call you whatever they like. I say don't worry about it. Remove anything or anyone who disrupts your peace...
Well said! That's what I'm gonna do.
But your roots are African. Your DNA is African. The term American is a made-up term, named and created by those who murdered and killed for that land. The term American has blood 🩸 on its name. Innocent people were killed, raped and oppressed for that name to exist and this is the name you fight so hard to be labelled. How foolish and ignorant. Instead of fighting to unite with your African brothers and sisters, you would rather fight to identify with your oppressor. “Malcolm X” would be turning in his grave right now.
At 31:51 I screamed Hallelujah! We are « THE » culture! Keep dropping them gems 💎 Phil.
💯I'M BLACK AMERICAN TOO CAM❤️
Agreed!

With love Johannesburg South Africa
Nice one, well said. Well done.
Was there a video taken down recently about our roots of our collective roots can you reupleod think i only saw the tumbnail 💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Was speaking to a friend from the D.R. about our real history. He didn't have a clue who we in the Americans really are.
Many black Americans have both European and Native American ancestry. This is what makes black Americans unique.
Many Africans have European, Arab & Asian DNA. What is this whole unique thing? The EU DNA came from rape. Part of your ancestors were guilty of enslaving the other. Do you see how that complicates reparations? 🤔
Just because we are Melionated don't make us all the same! That is limited thinking all black people are only from Africa that insane because I'm sure that I am not native I am Choctaw and Blackfeet my people have been here for ions but just because that's my background and reality doesn't mean that that is someone else's heritage, race, or nationality!! I honor everyone's life story.... even Elon Musks African American self!!! Lol
@@brownskin59I think he said many, not all...
No that’s not what makes them “unique” that makes them washed
Many do, but they are taught to ignore all ancestry that is not related to "Africa".
Marcus Garvey came to America from Jamaica preaching Black unity and so called FBA's sold him out. Y'all forgot about that?
I need one of em to comment on this with Dey FBA/ reparations slogans smh

I’m just going to say this. Being Black American is hard. From the time we got to this place we now call home in northern American we never got to pick what WE WANTED. Only what others wanted from us. It’s interesting to watch how no matter what we, do we’re criticized either way
Exactly
Why not just American.. Webster's dictionary 1828 AMER'ICAN, noun A native of America; originally applied to the aboriginals, or copper-colored races, found here by the Europeans; but now applied to the descendants of Europeans born in America.. cooper-colored is the blacks.. we've been lied to. we are the Originals. Pyramids in Mexico old as the ones in Africa built by us...Olmecs. Blacks have been here since before the Ice age. they are claiming your title American from Amaru-khan (Black Skin people)
It's even harder to be African. They have to flee their homeland due to war , poverty, and instability. And then struggle to accept Black Americans as African after the sale of BA.
