Cornell student suspended over Gaza protest speaks out

- Cornell University in the state of New York is suspending enrolment and study for students who participate in campus protests demanding an end to Israel's war on Gaza.
The school says that this is because students set up an encampment which they did not seek permission for.
Across many American universities - student protesters have set up encampments on their campuses and are calling for their universities to withdraw investment from companies with links to the Israeli military.
Nick Wilson is a Second-year undergraduate student at Cornell University and a protest organiser with the Coalition for Mutual Liberation.
He was suspended two days ago for participating in a demonstration at the campus against Israel's war on Gaza.
He joins us from Ithaca, New York to explain his side of the story.

As a Cornell Alum I can tell you that we have had a long history of protests on campus. The College says that they encourage community engagement and social activism but then do things like this. Why is it that students are being suspended now for thigs that countless have done in the past? The college needs to do better. I am proud of these students!
I must say, i have'nt the slightest of the Guts and bravery this young lad has. With that mindset, he would make a name in whatever field he is in. I wish good future for these students.

The questions I would ask if I were the interviewer are - "how are your parents taking your suspension? Will they lose your tuition for the semester? Are you so rich you can throw away a semester-worth of money or are you squandering your financial aid?"
As a Cornell Alumni who casually walked past the protests against South African Apartheid in the 1980s I am proud of these students. Cornell administration needs to let this be.
