No question, Watson and Galeazzi are the best Mayerling duo on record. And Watson is the ideal Rudolph. His interpretation is perfection. I never tire of watching his DVD performance.
Mara and Edward make a beautiful combination. Long long legs and arms and slender bodies just crashing into each other, this is so beautiful and eerie. Every time there is a video of rehearsals or highlights of a show, I curse the fact that I live in the wrong country
Geez...I can't take my eyes away from Mara Galeazzi. What a beautiful ballet presence. Even the slightest movements from her seem fraught with elegance.......And Edward Watson is always the consummate professional......(P.S. The Royal Ballet is coming to New York - 6/23/15 through 6/28/15 !! )
this is such a sensual yet jarring dance! also i think jonathan cope is ridiculously tall, I saw Ed perform kafka's metamorphoses in NYC and he's pretty tall. And incredibly well built....
i have a guess that jonathan is around the 6'2" range. based on the length of him limbs and his feet. i also saw ed perform live and put him at least at 5'10" but he may be a 6footer as well. his limbs are so long if he were anything shorter than 5'10" i'd be shocked.
i would love to work in a ballet, not as a dancer since i am as stiff as a refrigerator. but still i would love to, ballet and the dancers intrigue me!
I swear this is the mother of all roles...I can dance this and then just die......it is unbelievable.....I would seriously do anything to dance this role.....they are incredible...
I love being able to see parts of these wonderful ballets. Since I am located in the US I do not get to see the full productions. Thanks so much for uploading!
I will soon be seeing Mayerling and I am always fascinated how ballets are constructed. Having seen several ballets at the Royal Opera House I am quite sure this will be another triumph for all involved.
cope got an amazing review of his mayerling, done very late in his career. from what i understand he wowed everyone with his dramatic interpretation. i would have love to have seen it.
I'm SOOOO with you on that! lol.. its maybe the red hair along with like how pale he is all of that contrasts in a strange way... but it makes you look at HIM lol..
Not me, I find MacMillan ballets thoroughly engaging. I think his choreography is genius, particularly his “Romeo and Juliet”. I would go along with you on Christopher Wheeldon, but I can’t agree with you on Alexei Ratmansky, whose modern choreography I find rather turgid and unvarying. A case of different eyes seeing and liking different things.
@@cherylhowe1541 they did mention at the beginning they were marking it through. Marking means just blocking out the steps and positions but not giving your full performance. It's what you do early on in rehearsals, before you begin to really polish the piece.
you are probably right.. But he either started or will start guesting with RB again. Maybe he will dance it there. Edward has that crazy/weird look and intense eyes whereas Sergei is more of a troubled spirit. So, i think in Mayerling's case, mad/crazy wins?
I've seen both Sergei and Ed dance this sequence from Mayerling and I prefer Ed's interpretation. I am glad to see the rehearsal footage; I think it is easier to see the dancers' movements in their rehearsal clothes, instead of swathed in costumes that while designed specifically for dancing, still add bulk.
Luke 12:2-3 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
Edward Watson is a brilliant dancer with stunning technique and emotional portrayal. However I can't ignore how creeped out by him I am..... I dunno wether it's the abnormally tight leggings, the thin ginger hair or the uncomfortably low cut top..... or all three...... hmmmm
Unfortunately, I find the MacMillan ballets awfully boring, and especially Mayerling. If you want to see a modern classical ballet with a story, I would recommend Alexei Ratmansky or Christopher Wheeldon.

Aw, I love Ed- he's gorgeous!! Brilliant in this role.
Oh my gosh wow they are both amazing

I love watching classes, it lets you see that the slightest adjustments make a world difference. This is absolutely brilliant!

cope is 6'2" as are other dancers in the royal.
He is gorgeous. And brilliant. Wonderful to see the process - keep them coming!
How do dancers dance so sensuality like this and not fall in love with each other? 😳
i would love to work in a ballet, not as a dancer since i am as stiff as a refrigerator. but still i would love to, ballet and the dancers intrigue me!
Hanna Johansson I started doing barre at home and stiff as a plank, and two years later I am no longer stiff!
I swear this is the mother of all roles...I can dance this and then just die......it is unbelievable.....I would seriously do anything to dance this role.....they are incredible...
Heis sych a wonderul positive encouraging teacher ..all his experience but still polite ..if dancers cant learn from him its very sad
The music is great! I love the arrangement!
The lady's the one at the royal ballet daily class that was pregnant! And now she's all fit and fab!
"a real stroke of the breast"....lol.....they're so perfect...

Damn it! They are really good... and look perfect together.
That was beautiful, breathtaking. Good job :)
This is incredible.
So glad this is back.
i miss cope. there are not enough videos of him out there.
yes, i was thinking of the same thing. Sergei danced this when he was at RB if i am not mistaken. Although, i think I prefer Edward on this one.
i think Sergei didn't dance this until he had left the Royal.
@@redshoesgirl he danced Mayerling in Russia.
Beautiful.

Simplesmente maravilhoso! Ao ver estes bailarinos e esta coreografia percebo bem porque me apaixonei pela DANÇA
There'll never be a rudolph like Ed
well Irek was amazing and Sergei has been even better than Ed.
lara hartley I wish there was a dvd with Sergei😭
eightysevenf McRae 💛

Yes it's Mara! Italian by the way ehehe!! She's gorgeous isn't she!

Edward 🥰🥰🥰... Great pas de deux!

Creepy indeed. Beautiful as well.
In the royal ballet daily class video, his, nether regions really stabbed me in the eye..o_O
Really good!!!!!
didn't mara just have a baby like a year before this?
I find that boring people tend to get bored.
TheRiverquest haha great comment
I like Steven McRae and Sara Lamb in this much more. Facial expressions as well as dancing better quality.
Cheryl Howe They’re rehearsing- this is not the final presentation.
I know but most give their all at rehearsal.
I prefer Steven and Sarah, too. Very special chemistry

I think Cope is very tall, he was Darcey's partner who I hear was tall.
tutus4life no coincidence. It’s why he was her partner. Not many men tall enough to dance with her.
It’s either the principals are really small, or Jonathan Cope is very tall.
Wow!
Fantastic! Too bad can’t watch the whole ballet.
yup i pretty muchcant agree more i get creeped out it might be because this dance was a bit shmexual (yes i did mean to spell it like that)

Ooohhhhh~~ Principal couple~~^^
8:37 for anyone who needs a little repeat button. (:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amaaazing and everything, but I think he might need some new clothes :/
What song is this?
It’s Franz Liszt’s “Harmonies du soir”, Transcendental Étude No. 11, a very beautiful piece.
abnormally tight leggings?? how can tights be abnormally tight? :D

M Mozart documentary
>.< everybody knows this, and edward and crap but i here..... Just watching this.

He is his own unique self. Don't change a thing, Ed.
Cool, that makes 2 bored people then ;)

Ed, does she expect equal pay? It sure looks like you're doing ALL the work!
Andre R. Newcomb you don't understand how much work she is doing.
omg she looks so light but he is really struggling....may be she does weight a lot..🤔
Aletia Gonzalez muscle weighs more than fat, lol!
Masterclass? looks more like a routine rehearsal - I found the video boring.
