Sore Rescue Horse With Overgrown Hooves Has Shoes Removed and is Trimmed

I don't know much about this horse other than he was incredibly sweet and rescued from a Kill Pen not long ago. He is very sore and specifically favoring his left front hoof. His hooves were so overgrown that the tendons in the back of his legs and his muscles were wore. He didn't have one comfortable hoof to stand on.
In this video I remove the shoes on all four feet and give him a significant trim. There was a lot of old growth to remove. The toes were very long and it took multiple nipper runs to remove all of the excess length. In my opinion it's a very satisfying video to watch especially when I remove lots of retained sole with my hoof knife.

It seems like you’re not taking your hoop knife and really getting down and getting all the dirt out of the frog.

Would boots benefit a horse in a situation like this? Don't you want the clinches out...isn't that leaving nails in the hoof wall?

Boots would benefit some horses in this situation. This horse is at a boarding barn and boots would not be ideal for him because they are labor intensive on the owners side. Most people that board can’t get to the barn everyday to check the boots. There were no nails left in this horses hooves. The clinches were rasped off before removal.
