I was under the impression that the Prophet of Truth eventually knew, but chose continue the narrative and activate the rings anyway. Acknowledging the truth would ruin his control over the Covenant.
@@skullossal2638 the prophet of truth knew it wasn’t going to give them salvation, but still didn’t know how it operates. To him you turn it on and it just works. It’s a common theme with the covenant that they don’t actually know how forerunner tech works. For example, there was a scene in a book where Cortana learns that covenant ships can essentially track their plasma shots, but they never know that
@@user-kt4to5xs9l Nah the Prophets, all of them, knew. When Mendicant Bias told them when they first discovered the Dreadnought, the ship seen on High Charity there in the end. A fragment of him was on that ship, and they questioned him about pretty much everything, the Halos were weapons, Humanity were the ones left to inherit the universe, and the Forerunners were not gods. Shattered everything the Covenant knew and stood for, and they hid that information from the rest of the species in the council. That and Contact Harvest are what triggered the hostilities against Humanity, their existence was a direct threat to their "religion"
From the games at least isn't it pretty unclear what the rings actually do, only that the end result is all sentient life being fried?
As far as what is contained in the games (from my admittedly limited recollection) it could be a lightspeed weapon - that would make it take 25,000 years to cover the Milky Way (apparently 25,000 lightyears is the limit of their range, this is enough to cover the galaxy though possibly not if they're in their canon locations, I don't know how you get "three radii of the galactic core" from that) - the Forerunners fired them ~100,000 BCE and Earth's history is completely messed up by Halo lore anyway so it kind of works (a 50,000 year dead zone 50,000 years ago doesn't really make it any worse) - you can outrun it with slipspace but it inevitably saturates the galaxy for tens of thousands of years. Earth wouldn't be hit for millennia but the firing of a ring is still an inevitable extinction event that needs to be stopped.
As for Cortana staying behind, there are other human colonies that are still around right? The ring might not hit Earth but still represent a danger to human life that Cortana needs to stay behind to stop.
@@aurtosebaelheim5942Halo pulses are FTL, dimensional. Possibly Slipspae, possibly something related. What we do know is that the original Halo detonation knocked out the Forerunner internet (the Domain) by accident because it was on roughly the same wavelength.

Analysis/Comments: judging off of our previous Tallies, we've noticed an interesting pattern within the deaths. Bricky, while he tends to have a lower death talley, he has more consistent deaths, which are usually caused by him being overwhelmed, such as Elites, Brutes, and the Flood, with very few outliers.
Matara, by contrast, has more deaths, but are less consistent, with more outliers. As such she is killed by more common enemy types, like ghosts, grunts, and most notably, explosions from her own grenade spam, death in vehicles.

One thing to note is that the Ark is the control center from which all Halo installations can be fired remotely at once or individually. Simultaneously, the Ark is extra-galactic and immune to the firing of the rings. Firing one Halo does not wipe out all sentient life in the universe.
You could tactically fire one ring to wipe out the local sectors, which might've been Truth's initial plan to deal with the flood outbreak and humans.
But we're never told, and seemingly inconsistent character writing on Truth's part makes it difficult to tell what his plan was and his level of sincerity when it comes to the Great Journey.
If we're going by hints in the game and the books, Truth at the very least knows that if he gets caught in an activated ring he dies. If not just straight up disillusioned of the spirituality.
Which makes me think he's intentionally weakening/wiping out troublesome elements of the Covenant to consolidate his power for when the truth of the rings is made known finally.
By that time Truth will be the sole heir to the Covenant with only the most devoted followers remaining - the rings being fired while only he and his followers occupied the Ark.
This theory coincides with Truth's actions - at least in Halo 2.
3:56:49 i think the reason isn't just that installation 05 is out of range of earth but if i remember for maximum efficiency the ark is the safe spot for detonating the rings without risk of dying but if one ring fires it can set all the others off once it's blast radius hit another ring.

Bricky, speaking of custom DQ creations, our store had a secret keylime pie. Pie crust, and the lemon lime slushy juice with whipped cream. Was the shit, and only one dude knew the ratios, so if he wasnt working you had to tell the person on shift what went in and to guess the ratios.

On a different note, what one character is privy to with regard to information is not known to all characters. What chief knows is different than the information truth has accumulated in his time. Not to mention the arbiter has no idea chief was teleported to high charity until after Tartarus is dead.

--The reason Cortana stayed behind on the Halo was so she could delay the Prophet from flying to Earth
and give Master Chief enough time to go after the Prophet and get on the Forerunner ship.
--The reason the Prophet wanted Tartarus to fire this Halo Ring was to kill all the enemies of the Covenant on the Ring
and prevent them from potentially go after him when he left.
--The reason the Prophet wanted to get to the Ark was so he could activate and fire all the remaining Halo Rings at the same time.

I think it *was* mentioned, but friendly reminder that the Books came out just before or in tandem with the games.
They weren't afterthoughts or ways to fill in the plot holes. They're well thought out extensions of the canon that were obviously planned out well before the creation of the games.
With the exception of "The Flood" they don't cover the events of the games either! It's mostly pretty fresh and they slot in nicely to gaps between or before the games.
They're not necessary to the enjoyment of the games obviously, but they're 100% worth a read. The original trilogy of books goes "Fall of Reach", "The Flood", and "First Strike".
These expound greatly on the Spartan program, Master Chief's origins, the fate of the rest of the spartans, how Johnson survived Installation 04 and lots more.

The flood only make use of the "humanoid" species in the base games, i.e. humans, brutes, and elites. Halo Wars does actually contain flying Flood.

That's not lazy writing at all, wtf. Halo 2 was built under massive crunch, they cut a lot of stuff (among them Flood Juggernaughts). I don't know of any concrete concepts, or at the very least don't remember that they had them, in the "Making of Halo 2" vidocs, so if they had any such ideas, they might not have made it as far as the drawing board.
However, you might be pleased to know that flying Flood forms DO exist in Halo. Halo Wars 1 and 2 had various forms of airborne infection and combat forms.

If you're asking for a legitimate response, because this is in part with a series of him showing the halo games (bar 5 and Halo Wars 1/2) to Matarakan, the vtuber who has not played said games. On how this sort of collab was made, because Matarakan did some reactions to Bricky's 40k in a nutshell videos, then contacted Bricky about wanting to do a stream. The rest is history.
