I'd like to hear some of the classic Motif pianos as rendered on the MODX. I always liked the Motif ES Glasgow piano in particular. Sigh if only montage 8 sounded like this through the church speakers and stuff. The pianos are so super thin and weak compare to the audition solos. Only way to sort of fix it was changing velocity offset which ruins velocity…
Hi. The Montage8 pianos sound great! Maybe you need to configure the velocity settings to match your playing style. The options inside the Utility section is pretty basic, so your best option would be to edit the velocity layers of the pianos you use the most to fit your playing. ✌🏽
Great sounds, with the first sound 'CFX + FM EP' I can only hear the acoustic piano, not any fm ep. I assume the FM EP is mixed in via a controller knob
I realize one thing tho, most of there piano presets are mostly CFX.....I know Yamaha has more pianos in real life, y not implement them in the keyboards?
You're right. There are a lot of CFX based pianos that come bundled into the MODX. But, there is a massive sounding Bosendorfer sample pack available for free on the yamahasynth website that's worth importing. Alternately, you can import any piano library of your choice into the massive 1gb of sample memory available onboard.

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to write in. Appreciate it! Though my training comes from the Western approach, I think in my playing with various amazing Indian classical musicians over the years, I've been able to integrate a more raaga-style expression in my melodies. And of course having grown up with Indian classical music, those raagas will always be inherently a part of it.

The MODX is a synth workstation and does not have the accompaniment features like the Tyros or other arranger workstations. But, you could play along with the dual arpeggiators and drum track to play some additional layers. It wouldn't behave or respond like an arranger whose primary purpose is to able to do that. For example, there is no simple way to transition between multiple drum sections of a song like on an arranger.
Hello Friend. Did you edit any parameters inside the keyboard to make it sound really beautiful or did you just play it without editing any timbre? I am very interested in buying this keyboard, but I have a friend who bought it and then sold it. He talks a lot, but he talks very badly about this keyboard. This keyboard can't sound that bad. If you can answer me I thank you too much, because I am researching him enough to make the purchase and not regret it. Thank you!
Hi Mercelo. All these sounds are preset pianos, and I have not edited them. If you edit them further, you can get them to sound even better. The keyboard is quite versatile and the sounds are great. In my experience, I've noticed that the pianos are much more detailed on the Korg Krome, but in a band context, the Yamaha pianos fit in much better. Hope that helps. ✌🏽
Yes! You can dim the Super Knob lights, and disable flashing under the Utility page. Go to settings-->system and there on the bottom you have settings for Knob Flash & Brightness. ✌🏽
I purchased Yamaha Modx6 yesterday. In the category search option, i found out that therevare no sounds in rock/hip-hop category provided. Can you please give your inputs on this.
The primary sounds for rock and hip-hop would be the keyboard essentials such as Pianos, Organs, Clavs, Wurlitzers, Rhodes and Synth Brass. I hope that helps. ✌🏽
Hahah! It's got 2engines. A sample engine and a Synth engine. Lots of people use it primarily in the sample engine context, so it becomes pretty important that the sample libraries sound good too. Wouldn't you agree ?

CK piano samples are much clearer and brighter sadly. ModX pianos are muddy, and bassy with too much reverb. I wanted to love the ModX 😥

Thanks! The MODX sends audio over USB to the computer. I record the audio into the computer on a DAW, either Logic Pro X or Reaper.

Yes. It should support a 3-sense keyboard as long as it sends standard MIDI.

Nope. No onboard speakers. These synthesizers in this category usually don't come with speakers. They are meant to be used with external speakers.
