its up to you as long as you keep the soil moist

Mine have started to grow flat leaves. How do I fix it?

Dont worry. Some leaves might be flat, but most of the leaves will be cylindrical. You can just remove the flat leaves when the plant is bigger :)

Some become flatter but most are tube shaped

It's a regular garden soil. Sansevierias can tolerate regular garden soil :)
