Thanks for the review and the detailed hands-on. I'd love this for my home office so I could change up the ambiance every now and then while still getting good lighting.

Thanks for reviewing and honest opinion. Would be nice if they had a single light option for under $100. Seems these light systems always have one or two things that make you go hmmmm.
When you turn on the kitchen light group of 4 there is a delay in the final light turning on which looks wonky and not professional. Not necessarily a showstopper but it’s certainly there. Hard to tell how well they all line up connecting the 4 different lights together but hopefully they have some way to help with that process. The Home Assistant thing also a shame. IMO there’s too much tshooting and little idiosyncrasies with many of these lights. I, like you, still like them and keep buying them despite their shortcomings haha. Good video.

It’s always a challenge lining up a square light on a ceiling. I don’t have one of those fancy multi-way lasers levelers, so by eye is my best bet. The binder clips were awesome to keep them tight while I screwed them up.

I’m glad I watched this because I was ready to replace them in every room but u stating ur not using em to there full potential made me realize they are too expensive to have em just turn on and off with a switch

I couldn’t get it to work with the Nanoleaf integration so I use a ZWave switch.

@@handydadtv that's a shame... Thanks though! I'll definitely wait till it's properly supported in the Nanoleaf integration.

@@handydadtv I got it working. When you add the integration in HA, you need the IP. I was able to get the IP it grabbed from my DHCP server and entered it. While it was trying to connect, in the Nanoleaf app, I enabled API access. That only lasts for a set time so you have to sync that with the HA search. HA then found it and connected. You can't do much other than turn it on and off from what I can see but now you could have your Z-Wave switch virtually control it.

thanks for the video. can you access colors and scenes through the apple home app or is that limited to the nanoleaf app. i want to hook them up to a motion sensor.

How about a video of other lights? Compare pros and cons.
I am personally looking for a good option for a sewing room where the light color is very important, and a good flood of light to reach all the work areas.

No, but you can dim them with the app or voice assistant.

But will leaving the light switch on waste and use too much light energy and my bill will go up?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It’s like any other smart bulb. It will use a little energy to stay connected to WiFi, but nowhere near as much as when it’s on.

Seems like an expensive light at almost $300 to make my home look like a dorm room. It lacks balance, scale, and more.

No way is this a replacement for a skylight. I have two in my house and would never install something like this where I didn't have a skylight.

    • @handydadtv

Obviously not as good as a real skylight, but this could be a great solution to seasonal depression for people work in a windowless home office.

Manufacturers: we need a new product to sell more products.
Sales: rename our lights to “sky” lights.
    Designers: but change the color
    Sales: bingo
    Consumers: wow it’s a skylight. $$$$$

I do buy a lot of things, but I would never have made this video if they didn’t offer to send it to me. It wasn’t on my radar to buy, yet I found a use for it.
I didn’t sugarcoat my thoughts though. It’s pricey. Doesn’t make sense unless you’re already in their ecosystem.
