The scariest scene for me was definitely that one part in the middle of the movie where Margaret is is in a dark isolated room and she starts seeing something moving in the shadow slowly coming towards her. No loud jumpscare, no fake out scare, just erie disturbing visuals. It was so creepy. Loved the movie
A decent movie but not exactly unexpected. I kinda knew what was about to happen. Which is the problem in this film. The only real surprise was the plot. What a silly plot. To defeat secularism the Church is going to give birth to the antiChrist? LOL Ok, whatever you say! So, to defeat evil you have to become even more evil. That's a plan Joe Biden can endorse!
It seriously feels like the studio themselves was not expecting this to be as good as it was. They just happened to hire an excellent first time director on “accident” lol
I was thinking it was going to be rubbish too, but the woman had jackal DNA, Sorry but that's a huge red flag for me. In the novel written by David Seltzer ' apologies for any poor grammar the birth of the Antichrist had been tried & failed 2 times before Damian. Also the scene in the grave yard Robert thorn & Jennings opened the mothers grave to revieal a Jackal's bones & the grave of the son was a childs bones had a hole in the scull prompting both Robert & Jenning's to confirm that his real son had been murderd. As I have said In the chapel scene in The Final Conflict Damian's speach while jesus was born of an impotent god he was sired of a jackal. I agree 💯! As it went on, i expected it to get over the top and silly, but it didnt. BRILLIANT performance! It appears to be one take, which makes it 10x more amazing. Have to watch the movie again for that scene alone. Also the film was beautifully shot!
It was well acted for sure, but the possession scene was so similar to the subway one from the movie Possession (1981) that I felt like it tried to mimic the scene a tad too closely. From the one shot aspect of it to the body movements, grunts and bodily fluids. I get that it must be intended as a homage, but for me it felt so similar it got distracting. But I'm glad so many people seem to really enjoy it as the actress really shines here.
@@Miika_HakalahtiI mean, to be fair, the ppl making the film did state that the scene was a homage to the subway scene in Possession, so it makes sense as to why it was very similar in the first place. But I get what you mean with your point tho - I personally enjoyed it tho
I loved movie except timeline issue. Damien is 32 in 1971. I thought jackal and small supposed retcons weren't even that and they could be explained away. Apparently director wants to make more movies but I don't want jackal origin story, keep it mystery that's why that aspect is scary. Also Damien trilogy was good how was like 3rd movie he pulled from apocrypha, why's that matter? Let's just say there's a thing in same books that can explain jackal without a whole movie. I mean what would we get? Jackal breeding project with a satanic cult called scianna assuming that's not just an alias? More demonic mating? Think satanic house Targaryen but no blondes no magic no dragons. Just demons and messed up or dead babies. I mean in this movie a woman had a baby with a clawed hand. If other males had 666 well they were deemed not fit. They skip over women, only Margaret and Carlita were deemed fit for that, it's possible a nun was Margaret's mother. Also I know a simple jackal origin story, take a rand lady named Maria, have her birth jackal in some odd way, like maybe demon inhabits normal jackal so somehow is half animal a fourth human and a fourth demon. Then if mitochondrial DNA is from mom, there's female jackal lie, then jackal can be physically male, and devil can use as vessel, done. Do not give me a 2 hr movie explaining a simple horror character that's actually scarier with no backstory when the scare is supposed to be how sick humans can get and which lines they will cross
Yes, when she is being carried down and all the old people in hoods around her before she gets impregnated. The tongue and claws in visions. Totally harken back to it
@@trhansen3244 everybody has their opinions. There are a few scenes in this movie that I’ll never forget. I can’t say that about a lot of movies recently.
The possession scene is one of the best I've ever seen so far. I love Nell Tiger Free, she is soooo good and fits the role. I loved seeing her in Servant too
In the beginning I felt iffy if I believed her acting, but as the movie went on she truly proved me wrong. Specifically with the possession I was truly floored. So so so cool
@@kayweigand2753 she was in a show called Servant on Apple TV, I believe it finished though. It’s awesome and I’d recommend checking it out especially if you like Neil’s performance in this movie
Please watch the original with Gregory Peck and go ahead and watch the 2 and 3 as they follow the story line. I absolutely loved The First Omen. The acting was incredible and I agree on the cinematography!
This movie doesn’t have an R rating! I saw it on April 11th in Canada; it’s rated 14a (PG-13) here. I also found the birthing scene(s) to be quite graphic for that rating! I also LOVED the Possession homage; it was extremely well done! I enjoyed this film waaaaay more than I thought I would! I also prefer it to Immaculate.
I saw The First Omen first, then Immaculate, and I felt like I was watching its twin of course. I liked The First Omen more as well. Although I actually really enjoyed Sydney Sweeney's performance. Nell Tiger Free was awesome. That umbilical cord scene in Immaculate though omg....
Haunted Hippie had a similar reaction to you as well. She mentioned how much she loved Immaculate but probably would not have loved it as much had she seen The First Omen first.
4:40-5:10 Anytime there were these sweeping establishing shots it looked like they upped the grain effect to make it look like it was filmed on 1970s cameras
LOVED this movie. Fully blown away by NTF’s astonishing physical performance and then learning this was a directorial debut! Following them for more 🤘🏻 Loved Immaculate as well, SS was never on my radar until now. I don’t want to pick a favorite until I watch both again 😁
This movie kicked so much ass. Looking forward to the next one with Damien's twin sister, we'll have to see how she turns out! Edit: You must watch the 1976 original next. I hadn't see the original in so long (I saw it as a kid in the 80s, I was born in 1972) I forgot most of it so going in fresh right after watching The First Omen was awesome. The original holds up and works well with this prequel. Looking forward to your review of the original!
@@BeardedBushMan81nope I saw first movie retcons were hardly that. Worst was timeline when Damien is 32 in 1971 and don't make me do 4th movie rant of they forgot Damien till end to hide him fathering Delia except that in third movie he was mass killing baby boys but then that ended so anticlimactic I guess ppl forgot world could have ended. They need to fix 4 things
Wonderful review! My sister said she really enjoyed this movie as well. I just discovered I've only seen the remake of The Omen as well after watching some TH-cam reviews of the original. I don't know how I missed the 1976 classic. I'm definitely going to the theater to see this new movie now!!
@@PossessedbyHorrordpHue (sold at Ulta) has a Warm Copper Red gloss that lasts up to 10 washes and isn’t like grabbing a box dye. I would definitely try if you want to do a little somethin 😊
Girl I was worried about you and commented on your immaculate vid warning about a birth scene in the first omen and I’m so glad you ended up seeing the film and loving it, it was so good! Idk if I’d watch it again because of that birth scene though😭 I saw immaculate after seeing this one, and I think it would’ve been better if I saw immaculate first.
The Omen is one of my absolute favourite pre-2000 horror movies, Gregory Peck was 59 and had recently lost his son just weeks before they started filming, and you can /feel/ the grief in his performance. It's really beautiful, especially when you're in the mental place for a 70s thriller-horror.
If you’ve never seen the original I’d be curious if watching it changes your opinion on this one. There’s one piece of lore from the original they completely discarded for the prequel and it really lowered my overall thoughts on it no matter how hard I try to let it go.
And I was blown away by how much I liked this one too. Being such a Stan of the original and hating remakes too, evening hearing rumbling this one was I waited til streaming until just now and was so pleasantly surprised
Technically they just find a jackal in her grave which may have been planted there for reasons. Or it's a ret con but either way it's not a huge thing.
@@spamwise249The reveal of Damien’s mother as a jackal in the original was so disturbing and an awesome scene so it’s bizarre that so many people are ignoring this huge change. It’s stupid.
@@BeardedBushMan81 I think it's because this film is so good, and wouldn't work with that moment being fact so it can be overlooked. Good stories are more important than diligently ticking lore boxes. It's also why most prequels, sequels and remakes are bad so it's a price worth paying for most. Besides, it doesn't truly run counter to the lore as there is a jackal, and there are people who would be invested in fabricating such a scene for some ritual reasons or something.
@@spamwise249 what do you mean it doesn’t run counter to the original lore? It changes it completely. Now instead Satan is a jackal and he’s impregnating women who are also technically his daughters? It’s so insanely stupid. And thats not even mentioning that in this garbage film it’s the church who wants the birth of the antichrist to control him and scare people to continue to give the church power. Soooo dumb. They should have just made an original movie but they knew no one would go see it if it didn’t have the Omen title to it.
amazing movie! go watch Possession too, its more bizarre than scary (the tunnel scene). It's one if my favorite movies so when the scene in The First Omen came up I was in awe! such a perfect homage to Possession. ❤
I think that's what a lot of horror movies have been missing for a while now, that constant uneasiness, the terror of not knowing what emotion you'll have watching it. The last movies I've seen that kept me like that were hereditary and midsommar
The first Omen movie is really good....the original sequels are not so great, but I think you'd really like the original. It has that 1970s elevated horror vibe that really disturbs me for being so "lo-fi," if that makes any sense? I think the 70s are kind of creepy in film, because film got a lot grittier in the 60s and 70s, and that worked really well for horror.
BEST SHIRT EVER! Truly respecting the positive reviews for this. I literally never cared about this franchise until I saw this on my 40th birthday opening weekend. I just got the Omen Collection from Shout Factory this past weekend and loved every film, even Awakening and the Remake.
Sarah when you said about most scary moments in the 1s Omen you didn't mention the beginning bit with good old British actor Charles Dance being taken over by demonic forces. It made me squirm b/c it showed a shard of glass from the church cleave his head open! Then he turns round to Brennan & declares he's 'fine'. That opened the movie & I was staggered & after that I could not turn my eyes away. You are right, as of early June '24 best horror seen.
Another good review, I went into this with low expectations due to it being a prequel to a classic but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, a straight up horror film and it had no modern agendas to push, great acting and the locations and how it fits into the original film (with a hidden twist!) well worth checking out.
I watched immaculate first and liked it but felt it left more to be desired. Saw the first omen and was blown away by the plot, the conspiracies, the betrayal by her "friend", the creepy characters aaah! And the lead was amazing. I loved her performance. I think comparing her acting to Sydney Sweeney, I feel like Nell Tiger Free played a more believable innocent nun
This movie rocked! I was so surprised to like it as I am also someone who doesn’t really like prequels, especially of much older movies. 8.5/10 for me!
I gave it 6/10. It's not a good film, ruined by a terrible plot and a stupid tacked on ending featuring yet again WOMAN POWER, living alone with other women and taking on the whole world!
The first few seconds was literally me. I was so surprised how good this movie was cause the eye roll moment I had when this moment was first announced but damn this was a great horror prequel to the original omen. The new lore presented is so interesting and damn I was genuinely unnerved/disturbed by what was happening on screen like they really went for it. The fact there was a NC-17 cut version of this movie is so wild cause they had to cut a lot to get that R rating and i want to see it so bad. This was a 8.5/10 movie for me I loved it. One of the moments that’s been talked to death but ima continue that discussion was the pregnant woman scene that genuinely made my mouth drop.
The one super scary scene in the middle, with the really dark black room, I will say I thought rivaled Ari Aster, with how horrifying it was to me. To know something is moving like that and you can't get away was terrifying and I loved every second ! haha. I really loved The First Omen, and I can't wait to see what Arkasha Stevenson does next ! 😁also i of course loved your review too ! thank you!
Thank you so much for touching on the triggers without spoiling! I want to see this movie so badly (I love the original and the remake), but I can't stomach on-screen, graphic sexual assault, so I was really scared to see it in theaters based on what people were saying about it online.
I thought it was interesting they did a horizontal c section. At that time c sections were vertical down the tummy. I didn't take me out, but it was a instant sign dating the movie.
I was more interested in wondering why they bothered to show it at all. It added nothing to the film. But this film has plenty of scenes that, if omitted, would have added to the overall quality.
Stick with 3 because 4th starts cycle over and 3 ending wasn't best and movie 4 skips over Damien till last 5 min. Sure they didn't want to reveal Delia father but it's like they forgot world should have almost ended and that England had mass baby killings
Nell Tiger Free is as unique an actress as her name. I can't believe she is only 24. Definitely a Cate Blanchett in the making. Loved this movie mostly because of her acting and the accomplished direction by Akshara Stevenson.
Saw it yesterday, scary but confusing movie, however overall I loved it. I was especially pleased by the soundtrack and revisiting Jerry Goldsmith's original theme.
Solid review, I too was very taken aback by how much this film resonated with me. Expertly crafted and going in blind I wasn’t expecting the story turns or direction. Better than Immaculate should’ve been on the poster, 5/5 pentagrams for me
Saw this today in theatres and it was sooo good?!? Pacing was great as well! I personally enjoyed The First Omen more. It was stunningly done. Not that Immaculate wasn’t but I was so shocked by The First Omen
Ngl, I rarely gag at movies. But the entire end pregnancy had me sick. We had someone at our screening legitimately heaving. It was so good, but Jesus H.
It was so beautiful. Same about the hair, I loved it and consider it right there with Immaculate & Late Night with the Devil as best of the year so far. Free's performance deserves an award. I rewatched the original after I got home & it was a very satisfying experience.
Great review, I enjoyed this one too. Yes please watch the OG film would love to hear your thoughts. I haven’t seen Immaculate yet but have heard great things.
I just want to comment and say it is amazing still seeing you on TH-cam. And I think it's awesome that you not only are fascinated by psychology (I watched your psych videos on your Sarah Hawkinson channel-- I'm not sure if it's still in existence), you're a mom, and you love horror movies. I'm a gay male, but I am a teacher and work with kids-- so there's that component, and I just enjoy teaching and watching kids grow and learn. I also like studying about the brain, and I'm also agnostic like you are (except I consider myself an atheist agnostic). Fangirling aside lol I also thought The First Omen was pretty rad. My boyfriend, who like... hates horror movies (he gets easily frightened/scared), even thought it was extremely impressive.
Frankly given some of content of the movie I was super surprised to see you reviewing this movie. Either way happy to see! I saw it last night and to me this was way better than Immaculate despite arguably being the same movie 😅
Based on all the reviews I was fully expecting a great movie with tremendous acting and direction. It's a decent film. That's the best I can say about it.
Just watched this finally, omg it is awesome, shame it didn't make more at the box office but i hope they can still make another. Big fan of the original and this sits with it very nicely
You're right about it being as close to a NC-17 rating as possible. The director has spoken about her frustration with the MPA when it came to showing female body horror since she felt that if they were going to do female body horror then it was going to be focused on forced child birth. And it would present the female body in a non-sexualized way. So the birthing scene that Margaret passes out from watching was originally 13 seconds long, but they had to cut it down to three-seconds in order to get it a R rating.
I loved this movie and I had also loved Immaculate but I agree, I prefer The First Omen more. There was just something about the vibe that I loved. Not to mention the 4th wall breaking jump scare. I don't know why but that scared me more than anything! It almost felt like we the audience were also culpable for what she was going through or at the very least unable to help.
I have a feeling this franchise will continue and will now head in the direction of "good versus evil" with the twin sister taking centre stage when she grows up. The introduction of a twin sister who survived obviously had a purpose (we were never told Damien was born a twin in any of the earlier Omen movies).
I saw the original when I was eleven on tv. The original came out when I was seven and actually was freaked out by the tv commercials and billboards around the same time. Since then, I’ve always rated the original as one of my all time favorite scary movies along with Exorcist and John Carpenters Prince of Darkness. The First Omen was a pleasant surprise since I was not expecting much due to all the other movies and the Damien series. I tried to watch the Hulu stream but was not in the right mood to rewatch it. Still, the sense of dread and overall creepiness was definitely there. The marketing people for Fox should have been fired. The studio lost a goldmine as far as moneymaker. Thanks for the excellent review
I watched The First Omen today first time. I'm a huge fan of Original Omen and Damien Omen 2 so scenes like the Its All For You scene were very creepy and on point. You're so right. This movie does not hold back. Very dark. Very disturbing. Very creepy. Very unsettling. It's everything an Omen movie should be.
Did you really buy the plot of this film? Really? I mean that's all they could come up with? I could not stop laughing after Father Brennan explained it. It had to have been a liberal who came up with it. It's that stupid.
Just when you think that this possibly could've failed and yet it's much better than most horror prequels today! I loved seeing this film in theaters with my dad and even he said that this is one of the best prequels ever! I'm glad you enjoyed it too! I look forward to what you will review next! You're awesome! ❤
this movie blew my mind, almost every single shot seemed so intentional and beautiful! I gave it 4.5/5 and it made me regret rating Immaculate as high as I did (4/5), as this just blows it out the water in terms of acting, cinematography, vibe, scares etc...
The demon's/devil's appearance at the end ties directly to the original The Omen movie. I loved this movie and it's one of 4 Horror movies that I've seen in sequential weeks that have been outstanding, including Immaculate, Late Night with the Devil, The First Omen, and Arcadian - and I'm looking forward to seeing Abigail in a few days. And yes, I preferred The First Omen to Immaculate, but I really enjoyed both.
SPOILERS AHEAD..... The First Omen is well made & acted, though a little slow & disjointed in the first 40 minutes, but my big problem with it is the way it breaks the lore / continuity of the original Omen. In the original Father Brennan goes to Thorn to try to atone for his role in Damien's birth & placing him with the Thorn family. In The First Omen, he's trying to thwart Damine's birth the entire time. An even bigger issue is that in The Omen Damien is born of a Jackal, which Thorn & the reporter Jennings, find the bones of in the graveyard alongside the bones of Thorn's actual son. Damien is not born of a human woman, as seen in the First Omen. Also if Damine's twin sister, a dumb idea to start with, isn't inherently evil then why are we to assume Damien is & must be destroyed? On top of that, the notion that this secret society's plan to birth the Antichrist is an attempt to bring people back to God / The Church is dumb.
I totally agree. The Omen series is my favorite series of all time and I've seen the original 3 movies (let's ignore the horrible made-for-TV Omen IV) many, many times. What made these movies so terrifying is how Papa Satan strikes down anyone who even gets remotely close to exposing/harming Damien. This is nowhere to be found in this prequel. In addition, all the deaths in The Omen were for a reason - the nanny scene was necessary for the introduction of Mrs. Baylock. Here, some of the deaths are for mere shock value. And, why oh why, are Margarite and Carlita treated so badly by these nuns/priests?? Shouldn't they be treasured? The whole movie bothered me. The cinematography is beautiful and it is well acted, but it destroys what made The Omen (and Damien and The Final Conflict) so terrifying. And Damien's mother is a jackal - Father Brennan mentions it to Robert Thorn and it is also mentioned in the other movies as well (the books too).
Well in order, 1 in first omen father Brennan couldn't help her get abortion because passed out in car crash Your last statement is cuz omen always favors male antichrist and they are both devils seed and in biblical refs that alone makes them bad it's just Damien twin got skipped over for antichrist the same way Delia gets skipped to alexander
Phenomenal beautiful movie! I saw immaculate last week and thought it was good and then saw this tonight and now Immaculate doesn’t even compare ! Still respect to Sydney Sweeney for taking on that project herself though
15:08 Yes! Me and my bf finished watching this last night and that’s the main thing I got from it also. That concept alone is just hard to wrap my brain around. Also her getting out of the car during her accelerated pregnancy was definitely Isabelle Adjani coded
was waiting for your review! glad you liked it too! i think i knew fairly early what was happening, but the jump scares got me and i cannot get over the lead actress she was hauntingly beautiful 🖤
strangely (and this might be because i grew up religious), i was soooo disturbed by this film on first viewing. second viewing was very enjoyable, but the whole film had this sense of dread that carried throughout. even when nothing was happening, i felt on the verge of a panic attack. i’ve seen countless horror films, but this experience was very unique.
I grew up religious, too. I found the plot of this film to be insipid. I laughed at it as Father Brennan finally explained it. I wish these movies would hire some real writers, not the typical liberal ones who have infested most of Hollywood.
@@trhansen3244 Thanks for letting me know, I kind of forgot about this movie but Im saving to watch it in October but ill see for myself if i end up liking it or not lol
Like you said you knew what would happen in the first omen, I mean Margaret is the mother likewise I totally guessed immaculate and immaculate was about real facts on the other hand the first omen is real horror and supernatural. And I prefer pure real horror you know what I mean.... And I've watched the omen 1976 and the remake and read about all the unfortunate events that occurred after "the omen" movie was done. So I am way more into the first omen. I'd give 8.5/10 in this movie. Because they didn't show a huge demon or ghost or anything but the acts of fear and tension they created and the arts and cinematography were fantastic. I already watched this movie 15 times. Lol. I love their acting. I the background music and chantings, the light and the dark. I love everything and I love Nell Tiger Free. She's Superb..... I saw her series "Servant" and Oh my Lord she's just unbelievably AWESOME🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I watched this movie because of Servant. Tiger Nell Free is such a good actor... She is so believable in her roles, no matter how utterly bonkers the character is. I was still shocked by how good the movie was, some of the sequences are straight up art.
i went to see this on almost a whim- because the first reviews came in only days before the movie came out in theatres and two reviews were saying nice things. I'm so glad i took a chance with this one because it sounded and looked incredible, even with me knowing where this movie was going plot-wise and knowing some of the original-omen-related tropes it contains i was just generally really into it.
I loved the original, but I think this one might take my top spot in that franchise. It’s terrifying and hard to watch. But it stays with you, and I can’t stop thinking about what the movie did… not to mention Nell Tiger Free is terrific as the lead
same w me! i watched the first omen without even knowng the existence of it as a prequel! i thought it was a fresh new standalone movie. after i made some research after i watched it then i knew it's a prequel. i was like now the ending made so much sense cause i hated it since i thought it was a cliffhanger
The original The Omen is a classic. When you have talent like Gregory Peck, and Lee Remick it’s hard to go wrong. The sequels after that were meh. They didn’t worry about staying true to apocalyptic Scriptures about the end time, and the Anti-Christ. That was one problem. There were other issues. I liked Sam Neil as the adult Damien Thorn.
So glad you loved this movie, I was so in love with it. The cinematography was gorgeous and the lead actress did so well. I felt transported to another realm
I actually really enjoyed The First Omen! It was very well done and I really enjoyed the experience. I kept me glued to the TV the entire time because I wasn't able to make it to theaters. I actually chose not to see it in the theater because I assumed it'd be another lackluster religious horror film. I was very wrong and I wish I'd seen it in theaters. However, there were perks to seeing it at home too. I had a few friends over and we all got to watch it together and we watched the original Omen immediately after which was nice to experience them for the first time together.
The scariest scene for me was definitely that one part in the middle of the movie where Margaret is is in a dark isolated room and she starts seeing something moving in the shadow slowly coming towards her. No loud jumpscare, no fake out scare, just erie disturbing visuals. It was so creepy.

It does culminate to a jump scare though.
Also her floating, don’t know what it meant, but it was eerie as fuck

What gives you that impression? It felt like a run-of-the-mill studio horror movie to me

The first Omen destroys all of that, while leading us to believe that Damien is a paedophile due to his relashonship with Peter.

Yes there were a few homages to Rosemary’s Baby!! Very neat!
Yes, when she is being carried down and all the old people in hoods around her before she gets impregnated. The tongue and claws in visions. Totally harken back to it
Vibes? Yes. But critics are doing this film no favors by hyping it so much. It's not a great film. It's merely a good one.
@@trhansen3244 I agree that places like twitter overhyped this movie, i liked it overall and it was fine, but it wasn’t anything incredible imo
I freaking loved this movie. I felt the same way as Barbarian - I wanted to turn around and watch it again right away.
Same
I loved it as well!
I am a one and done for this movie. It's really not worth a second viewing.
@@trhansen3244 everybody has their opinions. There are a few scenes in this movie that I’ll never forget. I can’t say that about a lot of movies recently.
@@Johnny-ci8mw I agree there are a few scenes I won't forget. Not always a selling point, though.
I loved it as well! She was great in “The Servant” on Apple TV
What else has she been in?
@@kayweigand2753 she was in a show called Servant on Apple TV, I believe it finished though. It’s awesome and I’d recommend checking it out especially if you like Neil’s performance in this movie
the thriller dance scene? :D
Please watch the original with Gregory Peck and go ahead and watch the 2 and 3 as they follow the story line.
I absolutely loved The First Omen. The acting was incredible and I agree on the cinematography!
Loved movie but would love more if timeline fit
This movie doesn’t have an R rating! I saw it on April 11th in Canada; it’s rated 14a (PG-13) here. I also found the birthing scene(s) to be quite graphic for that rating!
I also LOVED the Possession homage; it was extremely well done! I enjoyed this film waaaaay more than I thought I would! I also prefer it to Immaculate.
I stand corrected, after a Google search. It’s rated R in the US but PG-13 here in Canada. I cannot believe that it isn’t rated R here!
In France its -16 yo !!
Yes but Canada is nuts.
I loved it as well! 😊
I loved the homages to Suspiria and Rosemary’s Baby and Possession ❤️ Also did I catch a lil TCM sprinkled in? I wasn’t sure
I’m fairly certain the scene where she’s laying on the bed is a reference to Caravaggio’s painting of Medusa’s decapitated head
LOVED this movie. Fully blown away by NTF’s astonishing physical performance and then learning this was a directorial debut! Following them for more 🤘🏻 Loved Immaculate as well, SS was never on my radar until now. I don’t want to pick a favorite until I watch both again 😁
Just watched and kinda obsessed with this movie atm. The atmosphere, music and the incredible acting was spectacular.
The atmosphere was decent. The music at times annoying. Silence would have been welcome. And the acting is good. 6/10
I watched the first half of your review, went to see the movie, then came home and finished the review!!! It was awesome ❤❤❤
How does the original work well with this movie when it shit on multiple plot points?
@@BeardedBushMan81nope I saw first movie retcons were hardly that. Worst was timeline when Damien is 32 in 1971 and don't make me do 4th movie rant of they forgot Damien till end to hide him fathering Delia except that in third movie he was mass killing baby boys but then that ended so anticlimactic I guess ppl forgot world could have ended. They need to fix 4 things
I need to know more about the twin
Right I hope they do something with that storyline!!
Her hair in that scene reminds me of Valerie and her week of wonders
OMG yes!!!
Yesssss!!!
Wonderful review! My sister said she really enjoyed this movie as well. I just discovered I've only seen the remake of The Omen as well after watching some TH-cam reviews of the original. I don't know how I missed the 1976 classic. I'm definitely going to the theater to see this new movie now!!
I loved it as well!
I’ve been anxiously waiting for this video to drop!

i loved immaculate more! the ost and cinematography really grabbed me & i also love Sydney Sweeney’s horror acting in general so😂
Girl I was worried about you and commented on your immaculate vid warning about a birth scene in the first omen and I’m so glad you ended up seeing the film and loving it, it was so good!
I agree Gregory Peck was amazing!
Looking forward to seeing this movie…though…1976 Omen (which I really like) revealed that Damian’s mother was a jackal. Soooo…there’s that.
@@spamwise249it's revealed in Damien Omen 2 and in The Final Conflict that Damien's mother is a Jackal.
amazing movie! go watch Possession too, its more bizarre than scary (the tunnel scene).
Yeah, three overrated films. I was not surprised for a moment watching The First Omen. Except the silly plot they came up with.
8:55 the hereditary shade 😭
Holy shit I've never been this early. So looking forward to watching this vid!
“Omenages”🤣 so on brand for this review! I have only seen the original but this movie looks so good. Gonna check it out definitely.
There's an easy way to remember when The Omen films get released, 76, 06. The remake even got 6/6/6 as the release date.
Omg I just watched it last night and didn’t realize it was 6th of June 😮
The first Omen movie is really good....the original sequels are not so great, but I think you'd really like the original. It has that 1970s elevated horror vibe that really disturbs me for being so "lo-fi," if that makes any sense? I think the 70s are kind of creepy in film, because film got a lot grittier in the 60s and 70s, and that worked really well for horror.
The 1976 film is a brilliant film. The rest, including this one, are merely good. Sometimes bad.
Yeah, that was beyond silly. He turned around and there was the 'cleave'! LOL
Another good review, I went into this with low expectations due to it being a prequel to a classic but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, a straight up horror film and it had no modern agendas to push, great acting and the locations and how it fits into the original film (with a hidden twist!) well worth checking out.
I loved it as well!
😁also i of course loved your review too ! thank you!

I could tell a woman directed this movie.
Thank you so much for touching on the triggers without spoiling! I want to see this movie so badly (I love the original and the remake), but I can't stomach on-screen, graphic sexual assault, so I was really scared to see it in theaters based on what people were saying about it online.
I’m glad you liked this movie bc I did not like anything about it so I’m glad to see there’s other people appreciating it
I liked the performance of the lead. Some nice cinematography. Some nice music. Otherwise, I can't recommend it.
I thought it was interesting they did a horizontal c section. At that time c sections were vertical down the tummy. I didn't take me out, but it was a instant sign dating the movie.
Did they tried to specifically date the movie though?
@@luster5497Of course, it is set in the 70ies
I was more interested in wondering why they bothered to show it at all. It added nothing to the film. But this film has plenty of scenes that, if omitted, would have added to the overall quality.
Sweet shirt! I freaking love that movie!
I have always loved the original three stories of the franchise. I have watched them all at least 20 time each. Greggory Peck was such a great actor.
I loved it as well!
This movie was actually amazing and I didnt expect it to be that good
Great review, I enjoyed this one too.
It’s on Disney plus now streaming
Hulu too!
I would have left the theatre in disbelief if they would have inserted a CGI recreation of Gregory Peck at the end before he gets the baby.
Frankly given some of content of the movie I was super surprised to see you reviewing this movie. Either way happy to see! I saw it last night and to me this was way better than Immaculate despite arguably being the same movie 😅
Just got out and I was like oh wow I didn’t know if this would be too much for you
This was great. Acting, directing, sound all the things. Shots were beautiful and terrifying. I was not expecting such a good movie in 2024.
Based on all the reviews I was fully expecting a great movie with tremendous acting and direction. It's a decent film. That's the best I can say about it.
How has the host of POSSESSEDbyhorror not seen The Omen and Possession. I can't even...
Just watched this finally, omg it is awesome, shame it didn't make more at the box office but i hope they can still make another. Big fan of the original and this sits with it very nicely
The scene where she floats down the cave upside down smiling was disturbing asf
You mean Immaculate is even worse than this film?
I have a feeling this franchise will continue and will now head in the direction of "good versus evil" with the twin sister taking centre stage when she grows up. The introduction of a twin sister who survived obviously had a purpose (we were never told Damien was born a twin in any of the earlier Omen movies).
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this movie and I’m so excited to see it!!
My favorite studio horror movie since Barbarian!!
Surprisingly great prequel.
I have seen The Omen, but not Possession!
Incredible movie, best of the year so far.
Greetings from Argentina!
Totally with you. I was gonna write the film off but am so glad I didn’t - and saw those stunning visuals on the big screen.
Immaculate was a b movie with the budget of an a movie, The First Omen was a real a movie
Yup.
Honestly that alone ruined the movie for me.
@@bloodysimpsonchibi954 Same.
Well in order, 1 in first omen father Brennan couldn't help her get abortion because passed out in car crash
Your last statement is cuz omen always favors male antichrist and they are both devils seed and in biblical refs that alone makes them bad it's just Damien twin got skipped over for antichrist the same way Delia gets skipped to alexander
Phenomenal beautiful movie! I saw immaculate last week and thought it was good and then saw this tonight and now Immaculate doesn’t even compare ! Still respect to Sydney Sweeney for taking on that project herself though

Yes! Me and my bf finished watching this last night and that’s the main thing I got from it also. That concept alone is just hard to wrap my brain around.
Also her getting out of the car during her accelerated pregnancy was definitely Isabelle Adjani coded
I loved it as well!
was waiting for your review! glad you liked it too! i think i knew fairly early what was happening, but the jump scares got me and i cannot get over the lead actress she was hauntingly beautiful 🖤
I thought this was a stunning film as well. Definitely recommend watching The Omen to compare! Great review!
strangely (and this might be because i grew up religious), i was soooo disturbed by this film on first viewing. second viewing was very enjoyable, but the whole film had this sense of dread that carried throughout. even when nothing was happening, i felt on the verge of a panic attack. i’ve seen countless horror films, but this experience was very unique.
It's supposed to because they were isolating Margaret, she couldn't get out of it
I grew up religious, too. I found the plot of this film to be insipid. I laughed at it as Father Brennan finally explained it. I wish these movies would hire some real writers, not the typical liberal ones who have infested most of Hollywood.
Ok I'm hyped to watch this now lol I seriously thought you were going to say this movie was horrible as usual when it comes to these type of movies.
Don't get too excited. The reality of the film is nowhere near the hype.
Her performance was amazing. I definitely couldn’t look away. Near perfection ❤

OMG you have to watch the original! It is my favorite horror movie of all time.

Not my favorite but it's up there and The First Omen is nowhere near as good.
I honestly thought this was just going to be one of those movies I watched to say I did but man did I love it!
I’ve seen all of them. It’s one of my favorite franchise. And I liked the remake
same w me! i watched the first omen without even knowng the existence of it as a prequel! i thought it was a fresh new standalone movie. after i made some research after i watched it then i knew it's a prequel. i was like now the ending made so much sense cause i hated it since i thought it was a cliffhanger
Tell me about it. Movie 4: let's not say Damien is Delia father. oh wait does anybody remember the guy who killed a bunch of male babies 8 years back
So glad you liked it, gives me hope this will be a great year for horror after all!
Just watched this movie and it’s beautifully filmed
