Great video. I don't have a strong jazz repertoire but trying to learn more about solo approaches. I'm currently transcribing Oscar Pettiford's solo on Monk's recording of "I got it bad", which seems heavily based around the melody.
Hey Bill, thanks for checking out the video, glad you liked it! I think that these approaches extend beyond jazz; you could use the melody in a solo in any style really. But it's so cool that you're checking out Monk & Oscar Pettiford. Can't go wrong with those two names. I believe Kenny Clarke is on that album too. Now THAT'S a rhythm section.
