Ha! It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mm, but she blinded me with science
(She blinded me with science!)
And failed me in biology, yeah
Huh-huh
When I'm dancing close to her
(Blinding me with science, science)

I can smell the chemicals

As sweet as any harmony

And failed me in geometry
When she's dancing next to me

I can hear machinery

Hah! It's poetry in motion
And now she's making love to me
The spheres are in commotion
The elements in harmony
She blinded me with science
(She blinded me with science!)
And hit me with technology
(Good heavens, Miss Sakamoto! You're beautiful!)
I don't believe it, there she goes again
She's tidied up and I can't find anything
All my tubes and wires and careful notes
And antiquated notions
But, it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony

This song is a respected "clinic" in how to produce, record, and mix music for a good reason.
For me, 1982-1983 was the weirdest and most fun era a teenager could experience. Thomas Dolby played a standout role in that.
Agreed! Such a great time to grow up, MTV was magical
1982 was, for some reason, one of the greatest single years (ever) for science fiction movies: ET, The Thing, Star Trek II:Wrath of Khan, Tron (the original), Blade Runner, Poltergeist, Escape From New York (ok, that was 1981), Conan the Barbarian, and Pink Floyd's The Wall the movie all came out in 1982. It's weird.
@billt8504 it fits so well for 1982

Old dude is Magnus Pike. He hosted a science show on British television called "Don't Ask Me" which was great. It had three hosts and answered viewer questions on all kinds of topics. Magnus did the physics ones.
Something so whimsical about this song, when you hear the beginning you just know you’re in for a good time
The song is whimsical.
As the video shows a wheelchair-bound cripple sent to his death by drowning at the very end.
That always adds a nice touch.
Yea. Who doesn't.😊
Good track, but I don't care for the singer's "out of control hiccup problem" in the tune. Reminds me of "The Flintstones" when Barney Rubble had repeated hiccup problems that made him jump up and down about thirteen times.
This is going in the Whimsical genre now along with Safety Dance, Strange Animal and Once in a Lifetime.

Same here brother. Ill be 45 in Dec. We are the last good generation.
As a black kid from the northside of Chicago, I was exposed to many cultures and forms of music. This song crossed all barriers and was really important in bringing together different types of people. I will always love this song because it reminds me of the carefree 80's.
👍🇫🇮
Exactly!!!
It's weird to me to think of the 80s as carefree, cause I remember living under the real perceived threat, as a kid, of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, the Cold War was real. They really were a carefree time though. Miss those formative years of my youth.
Music unites us all I believe! The same year as a white kid growing up in northwest hearing Grandmaster Melle Mel - White Lines blew my mind! Hearing it today the music has changed but has society?

Its dumb for people who take themselves too seriously and wonderful for people who don't ...
Having Magnus Pyke in the video & contributing to the song was genius. To a certain generation who grew-up in the 70s - early 80s, he WAS the eccentric scientist from the TV!
Him and Heinz Wolff.
He was! I remember watching him on TV growing up and being so amazed that he agreed to be in this video! It was great to see him one this. I still live this song❤
Unfortunately their isn't much surviving video or audio recordings of Magnus Pyke. At the time a lot of TV shows were only aired once and the video tapes were kept for a short amount of time before being reused to tape new shows. We truly live in a fortunate time were almost everything is saved and can be found if you know were to look.

Another song that comes close to being really good like this one would be Murry Head "One night in Bangkok" and was popular around the same time (if not, then give or take a year). I believe She Blinded Me with Science was used in the movie, Weird Science that debuted in the 80's as well. The 80's were a totally awesome time to live in. 😎
Well said
@@EB1878 Weird Science is a great movie!
I think this song is the only reason I haven't dropped science
Damon Albarn.V2 Science rules! Never has such a subject been as cool as right now! Namaste!

Should have read all the comments before I posted the same one! Yes!
This is it. This is the most 80s song of all time
"Safety Dance" may give it a run for the title!
Because of this song. I liked science.
I'd rather study anatomy. Hers!
I’d rather do math than science
and 'Weird Science'!

This has got to be up there with the MOST 80’s song.
Let's face it; the world was more fun some time ago!
Hell ya ...long live the 80s
@The Flying Dutchman That is quite correct
Absolutely. It's seems to be all work and no play now.
Love 80s music, loved this one. It was playing everywhere we went and we loved it. Still enjoy it a lot. It was in one of the best 80s movies "Weird Science" and everywhere, where we just loved listening to it. What a great era in music and entertainment in general. Brings back a lot of great memories.
Botn in 66 as far as im concerned the 70s,80s,90s,etc was the greatest music ever🎉
I'd add the 60s too.
Same. ❤️
This man was so far ahead of his time!
I agree!
A nerd with guyliner.....awww. 😊
Because he used science!
In 1985 he literally called the album “The golden age of wireless” so yeah.

It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mm, but she blinded me with science
She blinded me with science
And failed me in biology, yeh yeh
Now uh, huh huh
When I'm dancing close to her
Blinding me with science, science
Science
I can smell the chemicals
Blinding me with science, science
Science
Science
Mm, but it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
She blinded me with science
She blinded me with science
And failed me in geometry
When she's dancing next to me
Blinding me with science, science
Science
Mmm mmm, mmm mmm, mmm
I can hear machinery
Blinding me with science, science
Science
Huh, it's poetry in motion
And now she's making love to me
The spheres're in commotion
The elements in harmony
She blinded me with science
She blinded me with science
And hit me with technology
Good heavens Miss Sakamoto, you're beautiful
I, I don't believe it
There she goes again
She's tidied up and I can't find anything
All my tubes and wires
And careful notes
And antiquated notions
But, it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Unh, she's blinding me with science
She blinded me with science
She blinded me with
Thanks.
Thanks for the breakdown of the lyrics
Even the lyrics to this stupid song are stupid.

Not if you understand the metaphor, it's quite clever. I think it's a very interesting way of describing being resistant while falling madly in love with someone. I like that the song and video is rather goofy too.😊
I like the players too. And I've associated with too many to lose. So, I won't. I'll leave it as it is: better, more, rich, double volumes brains, everything.
When I was a kid, and before I ever saw the music video, I always thought it was Christopher Lloyd shouting SCIENCE!

YES😂
The best music came from the 80's. IMHO
I agree
Not really. But there was some good stuff and this was one.
... and the 70s ;-)
I fully agree. Absolutely the finest pop music decade ever. Genius artists all: Dobly, Jackson, Byrne. This list is enormous. Even the one-hit-wonders were brilliant!
The best Pop music, i would agree, but the best music genres RnB/Soul/HipHop/Rap came from the 90s
Here in 2021!! Due to SCIENCE!!!!!

Coronavirus:"Ha, you can't blind me with science- I'll simply mutate!"
Science is in Thomas Dolbys family, his Father invented The Dolby Sound system. Great song.
@@brucekilby9957 stage name Thomas Dolby originated from a nickname that he picked up in the early 1970s, when he was "always messing around with keyboards and tapes."[7] His friends nicknamed him "Dolby," from the name of the audio noise-reduction process of Dolby Laboratories used for audio recording and playback. He adopted the stage name "Thomas Dolby" to avoid confusion with British singer Tom Robinson, who was popular when he began his career. Early publicity implied that "Dolby" was a middle name, and that the artist's full name was Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson;[8] this is legally incorrect, but he does sometimes informally go by the initials TMDR.[5] ....Wikipedia

Since 1983 I thought he was saying, "Good heavens Miss South America...". But given the Japanese fixation at the time Sakamoto is more obviously right.
