Eh, a coach or a group of players can be soft, a program can’t. This is the same program that established itself as Tailback U while also pumping out NFL LBs like crazy. Not recruiting in Southern California first is probably the thing that makes me the angriest. Using your home region as a backup plan is the most insulting thing ever when you really think about it. He outright said he needs to get players that are tough and really go after the ball, so that's just telling that he doesn't believe that any of our kids fit that mold at all, which is insane because he plays against them every f****** season when these kids go to Oregon or other top programs. This year California has six of the top 25 high school programs in the country and we always produce top players , so why isn't he looking here? Why isn't he putting a fence around the state? Why isn't he putting a fence around Southern California? He just doesn't think our kids are tough enough and that is just insane.
The answer is simple. He's more interested in proving how smart he is than putting his players in the best position to succeed. He's an arrogant play schedule coach who doesn't have the ability to go off script and adlib a little.
Man, you’re so right. He doesn’t have a feel for each game. Or perhaps he’s just arrogant or boneheaded. Either way, his inability to establish the run throughout the games has cost us 4 if not 5 losses.
Even though we're currently struggling to get a foot hold in the S.E.C, I still maintain the conviction that Coach Coward did OU a favor. As I did then, I still believe that in the long run, it'll be proven that OU benefited more by Coach Coward leaving than USC did by hiring him.
I’d love to see him comeback to Ou as OC. As an Oklahoma fan. Pay him close to head coach money like chip kelly. I know that won’t happen but you can’t argue with his results while he was at Ou on offense. I can forgive pretty easy.
USC can’t compete with Phil Knight’s unlimited bank account and the SEC cherry picking the rest of the top west coast players. If you were to fire Riley who do you think you could hire that would fit the LA market? He has to have time and now that he has the defensive coaches hopefully he can get some good line players but the offensive line coaches need to do better recruiting too. Riley’s recruiting method is national but maybe he need to do more like Pete Carroll and build a wall around Southern California and go pick players he feels will be NFL players from around the country to augment local players!
@@ulical Utah beating USC last year, for the third straight time, in the Coliseum, and with a literal pig farmer at QB was a gut punch that USC still hasn't recovered from
It wasn't too long ago when, after pointing out his flawed coaching style, USC fans accused OU fans of being a bunch of jealous crybabies. As I then pointed out, we weren't upset that Coach Coward left. We were upset at how he left. What kind of an ass hole coach leaves without even talking to his players?! Most of the team didn't know until it was reported via the news. He snuck out the back door like a coward because he didn't want to coach against the S.E.C. The S.E.C typically fields a better, much tougher brand of defense. Coach Coward knew very well that they would demolish his gimmicky play calling.
4 heisman trophy winners but it’s “gimmicky” it actually blows my mind that someone can genuinely watch usc football objectively and come away with the offense or the head coach being the problem like how are u a real person
@yourewrongfr That was due to God-given talent. Besides that, he was the OC, not the QB Coach. Coach Coward is the reason that OU doesn't have 2 more Naties.
Dude took over a blue blood and got hired by another one. I don't think that he's anything special and would be an average to horrible coach at a regular school.

Bowl for Nebraska? Or USC Turnaround Neither Nebraska or USC can finish a game Those should be interesting Nebraska's defense shut down Ohio State's run game
Not sure if this is as bad in comparison to the pre-Carroll days. As in the 2nd John Robinson era and the Paul Hackett coaching days. They were mediocre
Lincoln Riley is not a good Head Coach. Great offensive mind but not good enough to be a CEO of a top notch CFB Program. How you have back to back Heisman Winners in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, an a Heisman runner up in Jalen Hurts the following year just to be 0-3 in the Playoff semifinals? Because Riley never cared about OU defense which fell off after Bob Stoops left. His ego of believing no defense could stop his offense cost OU a chance at the Natty. Then at USC, Riley wasted Caleb Williams' USC career and cost USC the Playoffs because he brought Alex Grinch to USC. Now he doesn't have an elite QB who can score 40 a game, an is playing a tougher conference in the Big 10 that emphasize on physicality. If USC wants to compete in the Big 10, they need to let Riley go. They have to money to pay for his buyout. Fire Riley and get a defensive minded coach to build a new culture in USC like Pete Carol did in the 2000s.
This had to remind me of the 2nd half collapse the Badgers had against USC, and how underwhelmed I am in the Luke Fickell Era. Especially watching other teams, one in the same conference, doing competitive rebuilds. Keep up the good work on the vids.
3:47 he definitely developed baker and kyler and deserves credit for them but I don’t think he should get all the credit in the development of hurts - hurts had 2-3 years playing for the best college football coach of all time so I’m sure he learned a couple things there plus he already had been a starter for 2 seasons so it’s not like he didn’t come ready made
Riley is a QB coach, not a head coach. He inherited Bob Stoops's powerhouse at OU and they got progressively worse each year until he bailed and left them in shambles. Now he's at USC and he's the next Jimbo Fisher, it's just a matter of time until USC feels comfortable with the buyout. 2022/23 was the time to strike with Caleb Williams, and Riley failed them. He just isn't built for the job
I think moving to a new conference, we should give Lynn & Henderson a chance to build up their defense, Riley messed up by not getting rid of their last DC sooner! So knowing that the Big 10 is a bigger conference size wise, we need to find the right players for our defense! Riley needs at least another year!!!
I think Lincoln Riley can still work out he just needs to hire a solid proven defensive coordinator and let him do whatever he wants. Have Lincoln worry about offense and have him worry about defense.
Imma keep sayin it.... *"Coach Orgeron was my pick to be the head coach"* What people need to understand if that a head coach has to have that "it" factor. Coach Oregon made me wanna get out there and play. Lincoln Riley is better suited as an offensive coordinator. Saw what chip Kelly did. In spite of their inexperienced roster and new defensive staff, they were leading in every game this year in the 4th quarter. As long as they can recruit in the top 5-10, like they currently are for '25 and '26, they should be competing for championships every year going forward. Kiff and Sark were fired early at USC, and have since turned into successful head coaches. Riley is young and is going through growing pains, sometimes it just takes time.

I believe, and this is my opinion only, that the problem is not so much coaching staff but location. USC is not in a sweet college town like Eugene or Pasadena. It is near Lincoln Heights and definitely not cheap to live in. If you think about the days when USC was a powerhouse, LA was THE place to live. Now, California is no longer the place to play. If I was a parent trying to give my talented son an opportunity to succeed, why would I take him from the streets, to a more expensive streets (so to speak). If I was a parent in East LA or South Central, would I really want my child to move a few miles away and still be exposed to the crap I'm trying to get them away from. ANY parent with a level head would send them to a program that does produce NFL draft picks and keeps them out of trouble. Plus, with NIL and less expensive cities than LA, 5 star players can get paid and avoid high taxation in other states especially in the South. Recruits no longer worry about joining a winning program and holding tradition. They now want to earn a paycheck and be able to keep it while winning. The bad coaching is also a problem, but not so much the main one. I could completely understand if Riley had a bunch of top recruits and couldn't keep them or win with them. But the truth is we don't know what goes on behind the scenes with parents and their children committing to USC and living the LA lifestyle. This isn’t an analysis. It’s just a recounting of LR’s history, which we obviously already know. What’s actually going on with his coaching where he’s failing to get the best out of his players? Recruiting problems aside, he’s got plenty of talent. Whatever the case, I’ve seen enough. There’s no excuse to be losing to Minnesota, Maryland, and Washington, all of whom have far less talent. Other programs are making huge strides in year 3 (see Notre Dame).
This coaching staff struggles to "coach up" and develop the talent that they already have in house. This results in mediocre play on the field. Can you imagine Coach Riley being able to really inspire, fire up and/or motivate players???? Based on the public demeaner of this coach, I can confidently say: "Probably Not" = play that is uninspired, not genuinely fired up and shallowly motivated. Wish it could be different. Doesn't seem to be. :(
Everyone except Pete Carroll has failed at USC. Sark and Kiffin failed at USC and went on to become among the most successful coaches elsewhere. Even Clay Helton is having success at a G5 school. If you look before Pete Carroll, SC had a number of failed coaches. Lincoln Riley went from a highly successful OU program to a mediocre USC. The common denominator isn’t the coaches, it’s USC.
I'm an Okie and don't know much about the West Coast market when comes to HS football. One would think that in state the size of CA it would be a hotbed for talent. Is that not so? If it is, then what do you contribute to So-Cal not being well recruited by the big 3? Is it a lack of incentive, laziness, or is all the talent just leaving the state?
It’s because they’ve lost their monopoly on Southern California talent pipeline. It wasn’t long ago, any kid out of the Los Angeles area had two choices. Now, Oregon, SEC, and Big Ten powers have invaded the already declining talent market of the state. One of the motives for leaving the PAC-12 was to expand their recruiting pool. That’s why USC and UCLA weren’t pleased when Oregon joined the Big Ten. Oregon provides literally zero recruiting base yet they raid Los Angeles. The comparative advantage over recruiting just doesn’t work for the LA schools against Oregon.
Man yall so desperate i think Riley is doing fine me personally counting next year as his true 1st year hes finally getting his players starting to build depth is the key remember Harbaugh took 8-9 years to get Michigan right
IMHO, I never thought LR was a good fit for USC. The Trojan brand of football is not an Air Raid offense, with defense being an "afterthought". Prototypical USC football is a strong running game coupled with a solid defense. Please bring back Pete Carroll.
You said it, not good SC teams since Carroll years, an occasional good season as one-off exceptions. Riley will get another season since the buy out is too expensive, SC is not fun or even interesting to watch so I ignore their games and have been much happier. Too bad....
This comment section is crazy.. a lot of keyboard warriors who can't do a damn thing to change or help the problem. So chill out and 🤫 or bandwagon elsewhere. ✌
It's way to many dam penalties in this game that's taking away scoring driver's and penalties that his helping Nebraska keep drives a love. I turned my TV from this dam bullshit, if am Lincoln Riley it's some cats running some bleachers or some increases in running sprints. I mean after this dam game, don't take your uniforms off and meet me on the field!!!! Bottom line
Typical USC fan base, crying and slamming table in their high chair, you can’t turn around a program that fast after 6 years of what’s his name ran it into the ground…….this season began with half of the team being the same players as last year, I said it would probably take 3 years to recruit USC into a competitive champion ( think Pete carrol) you don’t get that without a couple years of recruiting. Defense started season with new coach and a few new seasoned players but mainly retrained last year’s players for the most part, your defense ( see LSU game ) can only be so consistent when your offense has BLUE CHIPS and is balanced or your whole team is out of balance ( see Michigan game offense line went backwards until finally QB makes big completion to 5star receiver of 60 yards, I have said before it’s not MR Riley’s fault, it’s not the QBs fault,it’s not the defensive coordinator’s fault! USC simply doesn’t have enough BLUE CHIP players on the roster!! Everyone should get behind and facilitate MR Riley’s recruiting and player development and I think USC will have a Natty within 3 years…..all the top teams have 80 - 90 percent blue chips on their roster…..USC does not…..but USC does have one of the top 5 coaches in RILEY, put the big boy pants on stop crying , Rome wasn’t built in a season, trust the process…..
Things can be turned around in a relatively short time. Pete Carroll went 6-6 in year one. Then he went 10-2 in year two and a Rose bowl to show for it. In year three a national title. The coach just needs to be competent. Riley has shown from my point of view that he has no clue how to build national contender teams.
Lincoln Riley has not failed. The group providing NIL money for USC has failed. USC had commitments from powerhouse players but was outbid by Oregon, Texas, Notre Dame and Georgia because USCs collective refused to pay. That’s the real world now folk; either be willing to pay large sums of money or be relegated to meritocracy. Even with mediocre players USC lost many game by a touchdown or less. Plus, Moss has no mobility which is an outdated way to player football these days. I reject your points and consider you not a USC fan.
I’m excited to see what Maiava could do, the news broke a few days after I recorded and edited this (I had to make it earlier this week due to my full-time work schedule before the news came out)
Riley is an idiot who doesn't even have a special teams coordinator but the main issue is that USC refused to compete in NIL bidding for freshmen. The school admin does not seem to understand that the parity in the new BIG and NIL era is like the NFL and you need to spend the same as other teams to compete.
Im starting to think Lincoln Riley is trying to get fired so he can enjoy that big buyout 😂
I’ve been thinking the same.

He should’ve never been hired. He’s a coward head coach & nobody respects him.
Education is what college is all about, but , at USC, it is about football.
Sooners fan. OU got worse every year under Lincoln Riley; Few people talk about this. He’s a snake. Glad to see him failing.
You said it, not good SC teams since Carroll years, an occasional good season as one-off exceptions. Riley will get another season since the buy out is too expensive, SC is not fun or even interesting to watch so I ignore their games and have been much happier. Too bad....
IM ALSO.WITH HIRING DEON SANDERS!!! USC & PRIMETIME 21 WOULD BE FIREEEEEEE!!
Conference Riley signed for:
PAC
*Conference Riley is now in:
B1G
There is the problem coach…
This comment section is crazy.. a lot of keyboard warriors who can't do a damn thing to change or help the problem. So chill out and 🤫 or bandwagon elsewhere. ✌
The reason Lincoln Riley is failing is because inability to build the defense
miller moss is transfering to michican, word on the streets! USC-J confirms
“Collapse” bro it’s been what 2.5 years?
To many dam penalties, to many and that's on dam coaching. Turning the TV, no wonder you're losing games
Why can't he recruit of the talented Southern California region?
If usc loses the balance of their games he's toast.
LR is the CFB version of Professor Harold Hill. He's a con man. Laughing because this couldn't have happened to a better fan base.
not surprised
Unfortunately, the team is not motivated and undisciplined.
I would dare say USC got a piece of fools gold out of Oklahoma.
Riley made a QB change to Jayden Maiava on Monday....
Lincoln Riley is all about Lincoln Riley ...
Bottom line
PETE CARROLL, URBAN MEYERS, INDIANA HC,!!+
Don't fire him he needs more time
Typical USC fan base, crying and slamming table in their high chair, you can’t turn around a program that fast after 6 years of what’s his name ran it into the ground…….this season began with half of the team being the same players as last year, I said it would probably take 3 years to recruit USC into a competitive champion ( think Pete carrol) you don’t get that without a couple years of recruiting.
Not true he has a worse record every year including Oklahoma.. he failed
Riley did make a Qb change Maiava is starting.
I’m excited to see what Maiava could do, the news broke a few days after I recorded and edited this (I had to make it earlier this week due to my full-time work schedule before the news came out)
He’s not the only reason!!
UCLA will be the premier team in LA
Wrong.
Boomer sooner
Yes Lincoln Riley should definitely be fired! Maybe USC should hire either Ryan Day from Ohio State or more likely Deion Sanders from Colorado.
Bro no.
RYAN DAY HELLLLL NAW!! THAT MOFO THE BIGGEST CHOKER IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL..YOU MUST BE ON CRACK!! OR FINNNNNN!!
Riley is an idiot who doesn't even have a special teams coordinator but the main issue is that USC refused to compete in NIL bidding for freshmen. The school admin does not seem to understand that the parity in the new BIG and NIL era is like the NFL and you need to spend the same as other teams to compete.
All we have to do is run the ball we would be 7-1
Rumor has it that QB Miller Moss will enter the transfer portal and touch down @UM! Always, GOBLUE-NATTYUP🏆!
