IMO its not the right way of seing this specific game show. They can afford to help poeple only because of the revenue they're getting from the show. If they just gave whatever money they had, they wouldn't be able to help as many poeple. So really it's a good thing that the show exist. Its the same busyness model as mister beast.

No idea why do Americans think that the US is the "richest country ever etc etc" even though that couldn't be further from the truth. About 70% of the population controls 7% of the wealth, 60% of Americans have no savings whatsoever. Numbers are artificially bloated by a few tech companies, and market speculation.
The country isn't rich, a select few Americans are.

be careful to judge. Throwing these labels „cruel elitists“. its so easy to judge and blame someone else. The game host is inviting people to the show for the entertainment industry. yet this very show will be watched not just the rich, but the common man, including the poor people themselves, just like the guy in the end who watched the show 16 months later. So if you dont like these types of shows getting rich why watch it? Critizie the people watching this shit. But then realize that its not your place to judge what people want to watch for their entertainment. So who is the bad guy here? Im telling you: No one is „bad“, no one here is „good“. Just selfish people, (the „elitists“ being more powerful, and the poor guy being powerless). NO need to make it about „the rich being the bad side“.

Sounds just like the hunger games. Whilst most of the story is fictional, the most dystopian part of it is true. As an Australian who has access to free healthcare, the part that stood out as most dystopian to me is that if you can't afford life saving medical treatment in America, then tough luck, they just let you suffer and die.

    • @med2904
      @med2904 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Look at some statistics. The US has exactly the same heart disease death rate as Germany (even thouh Americans are way more obese and eat less healthy as well).
Universal healthcare isn't saving everyone from treatable diseases. It's just making it more random who dies and who survives. But it's letting people suffer and die as well. If you require expensive treatment in a country with universal healthcare, you'll just be scheduled to get it after some months or years. The system isn't magically creating an unlimited number of hospitals, surgeons, and expensive medical equipment so that no one ever dies from treatable illnesses.
It's like 100 people having only enough food that 50 of them can survive. They can vote who should survive, draw lots, base it on who's the most important (f.e. women, children, and healthy men), or on who has the highest income. But no matter how they decide it, they have to let 50 people suffer and die. Making it random by drawing lots isn't saving anyone. You may argue that it's the most fair system. But making people die at random while waiting for their turn to be treated in a universal healthcare system isn't saving more people.

Allot of heath professionals/medical careerist in America will pretend till they're blue in the face that they don't support this system but that's not true. One of the main things policy makers will agree upon is the false concept of better living through hard luck and low expectations because it's a business after all. If you fight hard enough for a treatment they will often let you know you weren't really worth the trouble but lucky you... ''Pat yourself on the back''

Hey y’all! Yesss anxiety and hopelessness run rampart in todays society! Just want to let y’all know that we were all made for hope and meaning, and that hope is found in Jesus. Jesus loves you so much and you are so valuable in his eyes, despite what anyone may have told you. He loves you so much that he died for you. We have sinned and done wrong things. No one is perfect. That separates us from a good and perfect and holy God. We deserve death and hell. BUT GOD loves us and wants to have actual relationship with us! He sent Jesus his son to come die on the cross for our sin. We deserved death. But Jesus took our place and died for us, even though he was perfect. Because he loves us. Because he loves YOU. He rose from the dead 3 days later, conquering sin and death. We can have eternal life and relationship with God if we turn and repent from our sin and trust in Jesus and his death and resurrection. Life with Jesus is the besttt. It’s what we were made for. Don’t just take my word for it. Read Romans 5-8 (in the Bible) for yourself! Jesus is wonderful and it’s so fun following him with our lives! Don’t wait :)

I am from Ethiopia and I gotta say that there's something slightly similar (underline slightly) taking place here. So, there are shows that air weekly in afternoons and evenings (similar to late shows) that are mainly entertainment related. They feature news, comedy and songs performed by famous singers...and one additional thing. Near the end, there is always a segment dedicated to a video of someone on social media who's suffering from some medical trauma and can't afford treatment. Subtitled with the video, there's always the bank account number of the person in need. Then the host of the show will comment on how tragic this is and then, very politely, ask the audience to donate money to that bank number. Now, I am in now way saying that this is completely bad or anything like that... I said it's only slightly similar, after all. It's just that the number of videos that make it to the show is low (like 5 or so at any one time) and that's out of a pool of patients nationwide that can't afford treatment. ( The doctor to patient ratio in Ethiopia is like 1 doctor for every 10,000 patients... One of the worst in the world) There are some lotteries with better odds than that... What's more, I don't think they randomly select donation pleas from social media. They only present a select few videos that have already went viral on social media (like FB and YT, platforms that monetize viewership) and you can imagine how a viral video could increase their rating on TV (I'm not saying that's happening, just that it's a strong possibility). So....yeah, that sucks. And I don't think it's a long shot to say that there are a lot more places this could be happening...! Am I on point? or am I overreacting over something trivial? or worse, over something that's selfless and is actually helping a lot of people??? 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

In the the USA if you get sick you can be fired for missing just one day of work because it was an inconvenience for the company. Health care is insanely expensive and going up. Health insurance is too expensive and covers very little. Before a medical procedure you will submit financial and payment information. No money, no procedure. If you promise to pay and can't, they will come after whatever they can get. It gets worse all the time. It does not have to be this way.

It doesn't have to be this way because even though the federal government pays the most in Healthcare (military being second). It seems that greed and budget distribution plays a part in this mess.
I can't say this as a fact but there was an argument spreading around twitter last year that if the United States was to gain a universal health system it would be something similar to Canada.
The reason why it was put in a negative context was because canada recently went through an expansion with MAID (Medical Assistance In Dying) and this expansion was to include mental health.
Meaning if you feel that the current treatments are not helping you then you can get euthanized. I don't think its that cut and dry but the large portion of people that would go under this are people with chronic illnesses or are poor.
Belgium does have this system but you need to see a therapist first (I believe you need two of them) and they need to write something on your chart about it.

Even if a rule or practice is unfair, the people at the top will always find a way to swing a carrot on the stick for the people below even though it’s already long been pre decided that only small portion people will ever reach that carrot, and then have to keep climbing for more under the same unfair rules. You have to play by the rules if you want to win. They play the poor and desperate on a rich people’s game and keep them below them. It’s far easier for the rich to keep doing this than to give the people who choose to fight these rules a chance for change.

This already happened and is happening. In the 1990s there was an American game show called Debt. People would compete in games with the winner getting their debts paid up to $10,000. Some were there due to wedding debts, student loans, credit card, and medical debts. A lot of modern game shows have contestants just say they want to "pay bills." But a lot of people try to get on game shows to pay their medical bills or a loved one. In the 2000's, I was in a similar situation as James. I have a heart birth defect. I had insurance but they specifically didn't cover preexisting conditions which birth defects are. My heart was failing. I was trying to earn enough money from investments to pay for it. I saw a Mr. Beast video not long ago and it had the same challenge with the big cups 💀 The contestants were not as desperate, but I still couldn't help but remember that video.

15:30 this situation is really alienating. I don’t want to say anything about what’s going wrong in such a world, it’s overwhelming and bizarre.

the first few minutes of this made me realize all of the sudden how sickening game shows actually are, just rich people making poor people compete for amusement and so they get money.

Okay, nice story and all, but how do they make sure that even anyone will win the rounds of the different cup game? What if everyone picks the wrong cup in some round?

That means no one will get the grand prize and that episode will be watched even more because it will be viral for being special. In the end, the producers make even more money. The house always wins! 🤑🙃

The reason the rich are not motivated to be altruistic is because our society is focused around personal gain instead of community gain.
When the rich get bored they play with their resources.
Isn't it fun to play with others, instead of by ourselves?
    So there you have it.
It could be a reason why game shows are fun, reward for entertaining the camera.
It's just a low life thing we've witnessed here, very low life.
Me personally, I'd prefer to create something that makes lasting positive change in the world and people's lives.
I'm that guy the government would watch because they don't like it when too many people are elevated at once and have a corporation to blame for their success and continued support of communities that benefit from that companies existence.
It would be pretty good if I had the opportunity to create something that, feeds people, provided healthcare, jobs, recycling and revitalized the land, all at the same time it fed a system that continued to do so, but no one person was incharge.
A distributed system of change that supported itself under a corporate flag, and get this, everyone would be welcome as long as they want to help 'all people'.

Would love it if all ads stayed in the beginning. Even if it was longer ad time. Or if there was a longer pause in the end. Sometimes, you just need to let the ending sit with silence.

Currency is the source of all Dystopia. Everyone should give goods and services freely, and receive them just as freely, but only if they have an official occupation. All completely regardless of what occupation one has on either side of the transaction. Voila, greed is slowly eliminated. Or at the very least there should be a maximum currency cap. Maybe start with the cap to help break the addiction then ease into elimination

Communist countries and communities have tried it dozens of times and it always failed.
"Just have an occupation" - so why work overtime to produce more products and provide more services? Why do physically or mentally demanding jobs? Why study to become a doctor or an engineer? What about disabled or ill people who can't work? If they're excused from working, then what if people pretend or actually cause themselves to become disabled or ill in order to not work?
With lack of currency and greed for material things, the only thing that's left for people to pursue is greed to lead a lazy life and not work, or work as little as possible. Which in turn destroys the economy and makes millions of people starve to death.
It's not a theory. It's the reality of what happens every single time a communist system is being introduced.

So the game show is the insurance companies and the contestants are all of us? Incidentally, I just returned to the USA and have a condition that developed suddenly that may cost me my sex life. I have no insurance and even if I did, there's no guarantee they'd allow the procedure I require nor that it will work anyways. What I have learned is that doctors don't really care and nor does anyone else. The system is so accepted now, that there's no empathy just a flat report that, yeah, your sex life may be over... cost is $100,000 (plus) and let us know what you want to do... How do we think we can come in from the plains and stop living in tribes and then that we can develop societies, corner and hoard resources from some members and over-enrich others, and not provide basic and necessary medical coverage to every person in the country (world)? What a wonderful world it would be...

Early on, I thought he wouldn't win, but seeing him get further and further made me think he had a shot. I thought he would win, survive and feel empty, the lesson being that the game is impossible to win.
When he lost, I realized I had fallen into the same trap of believing the system gives you a chance. It doesn't. Instead, the believe that it is a game at all with rules is what sustains the trap. If you believe you have a chance, you've already lost.
    Quite powerful.
