Really loved Juninho in his prime as could literally change a game in an instant! It was great that he said winning the league cup with Boro meant more to him than winning the World Cup! Another great video!
I mean besides Juninho coming to Middlesbrough witch was crazy it’s self ravanelli was arguably more insane prior season to joining Middlesbrough he was at Juventus and was the top scorer in the champions league won it scored the only goal in the final and upon his 7.5million pound move to Boro he was the highest payed player in the league at the time and him scoring a hatrick on his debut against Liverpool just sums him up quality player
He was quality, but caused a lot of probelms off the pitch that season for Boro - Frequently complaining to the press about the training sessions and facilities at the club amongst other things
He was only there for the money unlike juninho
Watched him make his debut against Leeds at the Riverside, the wee fella, wiped out Tony Yeboha, sent him flying 4ft into the air. Played with his heart and it was as big as a lions. Will always be beloved on Teeside. ❤😊
Best channel out on TH-cam. I'll pay for weekly videos
I agree, great stuff 😄
3rd to that!
Likewise 👏🏻
I agree. Great research and great subjects
I've been waiting for a new upload for what feels like eternity. Now you gift us Juninho. Great stuff.
After watching this all I can say is that you must be the best football historian on TH-cam. Fantastic detail.
Quality player. Him and kinkladze I thought were both underrated.
My greatest player ever! Grew up watching him. The goal against United is one of the greatest team goals in Premier League history and it never gets spoken about because its Boro, if United had scored it, it would be used in opening packages for SkySports. Only the finish was shown here, the passing before hand was first class, even the United fans were clapping it. UTB!
Middleborough were fun to watch in the 90's.
I also liked Ravenelli & Emerson.
Absolutely tremendous profile on the great little fella. Great job. 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
What a fantastic channel.
Great storytelling, an interesting footballer to make a compelling video on would be Miodrag Belodedici.
Juninho Paulista what a talent! I remember him cooking Man United several times...
Thanks for all your work. Only 2,5 minutes in and already throrroughly enjoying this one. I remember buying him on FIFA 07 or 08 cause of his game face. Little did I know about his status. Became an instant favourite for me. Love this channel and the players you talk about!
This documentary is incredibly well researched. Agree completely with the closing argument. For the 18 months before the horrible ankle break from Salgado, Juninho was the best player in the world.
Juninho changed the Premier League as this documentary states, brilliant piece of work.
Lovely stuff, growing to love your channel - started with the niche spl stuff thats not often reported south of the border but becoming a part of my regular watching, good stuff man
Fantastic documentary on a fantastic player!
Finally. A clip on Juninho
As a celtic fan i remember being so excited about his signing after Larsson went to Barca and couldnt believe Martin oneil played him out wide opting to play henri camara up front with either hartson or sutton.
Thanks for video really enjoyed watching Juninho was back on Boro last week doing evening with Craig higgnet thank I'm gonna subscribe for more
1st Brazilian to play for a Premier League club (1992 onwards) was Isaías "O Profeta."
I remember arguing with my mates that Free Kick Demon Juninho played for Middlesbrough 😬
A lot of times people say "if a player has trouble with every manager, maybe its the player and not the managers" but I really dont see that in Juninho. You have to factor in the size disrespect, the constant underestimation of coaches back then who wanted a physical game first- not that they dont want a physical game now, but it comes secondary to the talent. I'm only a little taller and have seen it firsthand.
You would think by then having seen the Little Wizard himself, they would know that size isnt everything.
One off my favourite player growing up
That Italian translator ended up at QPR right? He’s on the documentary they did.
Remember juninho and Emerson in the spl both couldn't get a game .. so juninho was like Leonardo AC Milan Brazilian world cup winner talented player but unlike alot of Brazilian talented players Romario Ronaldo rivaldo.adriano ect they were all from poor parts of Brazil and football was there way out of poverty.. Leonardo parents were wealthy so were juninho and its crazy both juninho played in the same teams together both moved to Europe became internationals .. one was amazing at free kicks PSG legend the other went to the mighty Middlesbrough ❤
The Legendary Jimmy Johnstone was 5ft 2.
icon round my parts till this day
Yessssss can't wait to watch this right now 🎉
Would've loved him at Liverpool.
Great video but I seriously doubt 4th tier Bournemouth were ever in for Juninho 😂
Yeah that was a mistake, I meant to say West-Brom!
AAahhh mate Ravanelli was such a badass....
Another would was found wanting in the spl 💯 another career ended by the "shitty" scottish prem league
Pretty sure I love you more than some relatives 🤷🏻
Haha, you're too kind my friend!
Liverpool were very close to buying Juninho when Roy Evans was manager. Robbie Fowler talked about it in his autobiography
Great video 👍🏻
Actually didn’t know he played for Celtic
He was unlucky here didn't work out but played a brilliant game against rangers
When you see a Football Flasback video it's to 90% clear, that the Player has spend some time at Scotland
Very good watch. Didnt realise he had 3 spells at boro. Any chance on a video about cantona. Espec his time in france before coming to the uk. As have only seen and heard very little about that time.
Glad you liked it. I made a video like that already, one of my first ones: th-cam.com/video/Fsci7yXpmLA/w-d-xo.html
@@flashbackfootball1367
Cheers for that, will have a look when i can
Just posting comment for the Algorithm. Great video, mate 👍
This channel is 🔥🔥
I LOVE YOUUU
Until he met Pontus Kaamark who shoved him firmly in his pocket, never to return.
Juninho has got to be one of the only players I can think of to have had 3 different spells at the same club (Boro in this case). Can anyone think of any others?
Carlos Tevez at Boca Juniors. He punctuated his second spell there with a very lucrative "holiday" in China!
Great vid. Thanks.
Absolute baller in mid 90s
Men’s Football at the elite level is played by skinny physiques. Very fit aerobically athletes.
"Middlesbrough is a cold rainy town" - compared to where? Manchester gets 50% more rain than Middlesbrough and Sao Paulo gets more than twice as much rain. Otherwise top drawer, my favourite ever player and I'll never see a player of that quality again at Boro.
whats the today's equivalent of Juninho at Boro?
We don't really have one. Finn Azaz is probably the closest thing to a "true" #10 but Carrick plays him on the left of an attacking midfield three.
reject ? you mean a player with a world cup winners medal
@@micky1up he was rejected when he was a teenager by many clubs in Brazil That's what the title refers to.
Henrik Larsson video pls
The OG Juninho
What a player
Phenomenal Player

GO ON BORO!
This is quickly becoming one of my few must-view channels. Quality over quantity makes for real value and the work's appreciated. Already have a list of players and teams I'd love to see covered (Hristo Stoichkov, George Weah, Denmark at Mexico 86 or France's 1980s team). Keep up the great work.
At this point in the video I realise I had completely forgotten that he played at Celtic. Yet another Brazilian who did nothing in Scottish football.
Why Liverpool didn't deploy his services i will never know......Liverpool class all day long
He should never have been playing for Middleborough Middleborough
That Boro squad was quality
100%, It was a just a decent defence short of being a real force in the league
Agreed on that mate, though Gianluca Festa was great too
@@ianmurphy9955if we'd signed Festa at the start of the season we'd have stayed up
Do a video on Mostapha Salifou
Good player but he hardly "Broke" the Premier League
He couldn’t afford a better suit ?
And then Míchel Salgado broke his leg and career.
Isn't Ituano Gabriel Martinelli's club?
@@hessen5498 Yes! I believe Juninho was president when he was coming through but I could be wrong about that.
I watched Juninho at the time. He was a great footballer but in noway did he BREAK the premier league but don't let me stop you rewriting history for a bit of click bait
@@jarvis911 I think my conclusion at the end makes a good case for the title
He won player of the season , in a relegated team I’d say he did
It was the draw of Bryan Robson..every kid knew who bryan robson was
Well yeah, but i can't imagine Brazilians exactly idolising Bryan Roson. He had many virtues (his heart, power, inflence) but they spoke more of his mentality than his pure footballing ability.
The 96-97 Middlesborough team are one of the biggest what ifs in football. First of all what a crazy season. Juninho wins player of the year. Ravanelli scores 31 goals in 48 games in a superb debut Premier League season and they end up losing both domestic cup finals and getting relegated due to a points deduction. I honestly believe if they'd stayed up they'd have become a top Premier League side. They already had Juninho, Ravanelli and Emerson who would have stayed if they hadn't gone down. The chairman still showed a willingness to spend big in spite of their relegation when he brought in Gazza and Paul Merson for a combined 11 million and 30k per week each which was insane wages even for the Premier League at that time. Had they stayed up and kept those three players and signed another three players of that caliber, especially to shore up the back, then I think they instantly go from relegation candidates to a top 6 team. Then after that how much further would they have to go to be a champions league team? If they have nine or ten of these big name signings in the late 90's Premier League where after United and Arsenal there was a significant drop off, who's to say they couldn't have become the third team in the league?
Ravanelli only scored 16 in the league that year, his goal tally is exaggerated slightly with a good chunk of them goals coming against the likes of Hereford and Chesterfield in the cup runs
@@joelthorpe4170 16 was still really good though for a debut season on a team who got relegated. The following season Owen won the golden boot with 18 goals. I reckon Ravanelli would have challenged him for that if they never went down.
Paladini!!!😂
Injuries doesnt help but having juninho ravanelli and spent so much money yet still getting relegated show how overrated bryan robson was
He was pish
Broke the Premier league but couldn't handle the "shitty" scottish premier league 💯💯the spl ended his career
Well he’d been killed bye injuries at this point and was a much older player and didn’t fit into the system
6:25 Zionists.
Did the prem bust u for posting these videos?
Well, there is always the automatic copyright checks you have to pass to publish the video - and this one took some time to do so. Not sure what you mean by "bust me" though 😆
@@flashbackfootball1367 well yeah like they remove your videos because you used clips from games as well as the commentary in some cases. How did you get around that? I’ve found they are very quick to strike videos containing premier league highlights and commentary
Yeah premier league and world cup footage is a nightmare - You need to keep clips as short as possible, and zoom in. Usually they dont strike your channel, they just block the video, if they do that you can cut out or blur the offending clip in the editor. But yes Premier League is the worst, the more recent it is the harder it is to use!
@@flashbackfootball1367 yeah I mean I have for sure snuck things past them but I always try to avoid commentary footage even though I wanna use it so bad. Thanks man appreciate you responding. And the funny thing is we are doing free marketing for the league wish they would understand that and embrace us. Baseball realized what Jomboy was doing and left him alone. It can be a great symbolic relationship.
I agree! Athough I feel the main problem is TH-cam's automatic copyright checking system, because personally the premier league has never manually claimed any of my videos...
He didn't break anything, wasn't that good except for a few flashes. Too short and slight to impact the game.
0% ball knowledge was given premier league player of the season with a relegated team that’s like Burnley last season having the best player in the league never been done since look at quality of cloth he’s cut from and the company of witch he sits in with a premier league player of the season some of the all time greats have won that cr7 kdb phil foden in recent years
