I've seen a few different arguments, like bringing up Titus' armor having tempered lining mod. Problem being, tempered lining would be a reinforced layer to the existing plates, that wouldn't fix the welds issue. Or claiming he didn't have the ammo yet, even though there's an AP round visible on his bandolier. Or saying he was just playing with Max, the guy he was unloading rounds at. Even claiming he had no time to swap out for the AP rounds, even though he was sitting there unloading rounds like an idiot into the back of the power armor.

You know what's funny about that? In Fallout 4, Madison Li calls cold fusion "a pipe dream" (terminal entry in the Institute). So somehow, it was invented but MIT also had no idea it was invented and in 200 years the brightest scientists of the Institute couldn't come up with it.
Probably the saddest part, about this ending, is people coping hard and holding out hope that the Fallout show will do New Vegas justice. They're not Obsidian, I serious doubt the writing team even played the game

Everything Todd has said about the show is contradicted IN THE SHOW ITSELF. It's like... I'm sorry, did we watch the same show, Todd? What he said about the NCR just proves it honestly. How can he say that the NCR is still around when that's clearly not what the show depicts? They don't even mention that the NCR even has other settlements under it's banner like The Hub and Vault City. And if they are gonna still be around in S2... then you need to have shown hints of that in S1. Maybe even ONE reference to The Hub would do. But we don't even get that, we get literally nothing! Everything points in the show points towards the NCR ONLY having Shady Sands. The entirety of S1 SHOWS that they are NO LONGER around. The show frames the observatory fight as their LAST stand. The amount of cope I've seen is just immense.

This show perfectly encapsulates Bethesda's vision - make stuff look like the IP, make it shiny on the surface, change everything you can about the lore beneath, have it be pure "entertainment" without any core to support it. There's an interview with the showrunners in UK GQ where they said they actively discouraged the actors from playing the games or consuming Fallout media so that it wouldn't taint their acting.

The show being canon actually makes it worse, if anything. At least if it was non-canon, like virtually every other video game adaptation ever made, it could be easily ignored. The worst part that Creetosis never talked about. Reason why Cold Fusion did not take off in Fallout universe. 1. Fallout already had Norman Fusion tech. Is cold fusion does not produce radiation. 3. Cold fusion needs a special isotope of hydrogen called deuterium. Which comes from water. Also, Cold Fusion DOES exist in the Fallout Universe… Vaults equipped with a GECK had a Cold Fusion Generator in it… So apparently Vault Tec didn’t just Shelve the Tec as implied by the show, but put it to use… The show sucks.

All Bethesda had to due was say that Fallout 3, 4, 76, and the show was a separate timeline from Fallout 1, 2, and NV so that way they can fuck up their version of the Fallout lore without messing with what Obsidian wrote.

Any of the humor in that game is primarily tongue-in-cheek stuff where you take modern-world sanity and then look at 'so we have a gang of elvis impersonators' which is kind of hilarious but also just cool. It's not stupid 'hurr durr vault had big lizard mutant breeding program where cyclops overseer was the great-something nephew of it' or some such stupid insanity.
Okay so sure the character motivations are highly inconsistent with their actions, the worldbuilding is amateur and contradictory, the plot leans heavily on contrivance and deus ex machina to progress as needed, and despite being canonized as a continuation of the setting it invalidates significant points of established lore and mechanics, but did you consider corporation bad? Slop, slop never changes.
@@kinagrill It seems apparent that the only reasons for setting the show in LA were either to key jangle "things I know" from 1/2/NV (which they barely did, most game references were for Fallout 4), or to reset/purge the lore that OG fans liked (which feels at least grossly indifferent/disrespectful if not malicious). The story might not be wholly fixed if you set it somewhere else, but it would be significantly better. Nobody who likes this show and decries critics as haters can justify this point, they would be just as invested and possibly more happy if it was set in Miami or Houston or Seattle or New York or any number of places we haven't seen before with lots of potential, and with those settings the critics would be much less upset. So you have to ask, why set it in a place they know would be contentious and invite plot holes unless the show writers are stupid beyond belief and/or spiteful about the west coast lore?
You know, I don't think the show ever explains how in the good heavens does "The Wilds" exist in the middle of an irradiated desert. That stretch of land wasn't merely an oasis, it was a swath of the Amazon rainforest that got copy-pasted in the middle of the Sahara desert. It's like the characters traveled across countries! And yet, the show doesn't even begin to explain that phenomenon.
If the writers weren't a bunch of yards they cpuld have explained it by NCR implementing Vault 22 methods to encourage rapid growth of plant life to save themselves from hunger. I might be overthinking this, but notice how the Robobrain says "Wipe the surface clean." Like Father Elijah. And Lucy's brother gets permamently locked in that room after learning all of that info just like Dead Money. I feel like they tried and failed to recreate the tension and writing of the DLC.
The references to Old World Blues, and a little of Lonesome Road, feel like clear evidence for this theory. They wanted all of the "vibes" of New Vegas with the two warring factions fighting over power, but without the logic of The Legion and true NCR. Philly is destroyed like Nipton, but with no flare or stopping power to make an audience care. The mention of the roomba robobrain having been a failed cheap prop version of a Think Tank in the vid feels pretty spot on as well. This entire show essentially parodies all of New Vegas poorly.

I might be the only one to say it, but the whole "The 5.56 was invented to wound not to kill" thing is bogus. The 5.56 was made to reduce carry weight of general infantry, while providing a balance of consistent range/accuracy, armor/barrier penetration, and potential lethality comparable to a "full size" rifle cartridge like the .308, .30-06, or 7.62×54R. After tests with numerous round types, the consensus was the 5.56 would represent the standard "intermediate round" for NATO. The U.S. outright *rejected* NATOs findings and decision, arguing the 5.56 lacked the lethal capability of a full size rifle round, and continued to issue their service rifles in .308. There's a whole host of reasons it was adopted later mind. And doctrinally there is no "shoot to wound" in manuals of arms either. You shoot to neutralize a threat, and you aim center mass, because that way you're more likely to hit something that will *consistently* neutralize a threat. You don't aim for limbs, or gear, etc. You fire directly as possible into the centerline of your target. This has been the case for damn near as long as modern wars have been fought. It's actually a war crime to directly and/or deliberately maim enemy combatants by the way. I know, not Fallout related, but every single time... This and "You can coat an AK in a years worth of dirt and it'll still work!" And "The most powerful handgun in the world!" (Or any such "stopping power" arguement) just put a damn twitch in my jaw.

I'd argue without hesitation that the Brotherhood of Steel don't appear in Fallout 3, 4, 76, or this retarded show: The Brotherhood - the *actual* brotherhood from 1, 2, and New Vegas, is easily one of my favorite fictional factions of all time. The idea of a small, technologically advanced, isolationist faction with a code of ethics is such a badass idea, i honestly think the reason people are so tired of them is because the writing is so bad, not because they're 'overdone'. They're overdone. The BOS should not be in the east coast at all, or exist in this show. Even if they where accurate to the real BOS from Fallout 1, 2, and NV, it comes across as Bethesda unwilling to create new things for the franchise. Same thing with the Super Mutants, they keep on reusing Fallout 1 iconography instead of making new things to help expand the Fallout universe.

My favourite cope about the 2277 timeline: "Lucy said "My Vault had endured hardship too. In The Great Plague of '77. Everyone had to quarantine, they couldn't work the farms together. People starved, my mother included." Now by '77 she could only mean 2277, which is as we all know the date when "The Fall of Shady Sands" occured. I think that this Great Plague, that Lucy refers to didn't happen in the vault, instead it happened in Shady Sands, and the Fall isn't the atomic bomb that couldn't have dropped on that date, rather it's the Plague and the following consequences. Later in that same train of thought Lucy does mention, that her father lost weight in that plague, but we do know, that her memories from that time aren't the greatest, because in another scene she's conviced that the big light above the crop field in the vault felt like the real Sun, only because of her mother's presence, and only later down the line does she realize, that it was in fact the real Sun she remembers. I know, that since the show came out Todd Howard already clarified in an interview, that the bombs dropped on Shady Sands after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, but I havent seen anyone discuss this little detail, tha I belive I just found." I’m so tired of people trying to explain away the ‘Fall of Shady Sands’ (which was coincidentally written to happen the same year Fallout 3 takes place 🤔). Typically, if a fledgling government’s capital is described as ‘fallen,’ you wouldn’t expect them to have expanded 400 miles to the east and started a war with the largest faction of the region a mere five years later. The whole ‘the TV show doesn’t retcon NV’ line is also total BS. Nobody in New Vegas has anything to say about Shady Sands being in bad shape or having fallen five years prior, or anything. Based on that alone, the Fallout TV show retroactively contradicts (retcons) NV.

I almost wish people would stop comparing it to the games because it undermines critiques of the fundamental problems with the show: tone, writing, consistency, world-building, etc. The set design and the general look of the props are about the only things the show gets right.
I understand people who aren't super invested in the games/lore liking the first few episodes; but I legit don't understand how anyone can sit through the season finale and then describe the show as "amazing". Hearing about the vault experiments in the game I was like: _"I don't get why they'd do that, but I don't have their side of the story, so..."_ However, once you have a character sit down and try to earnestly explain why they would purposefully overcrowd a vault: it just sounds world-breakingly dumb.

Vault-tec was doing the vault experiments in order to develop a Generation Ship, a colonization vessel that would travel for centuries to reach a habitable planet after Earth inevitably gets destroyed by nukes. The project was supervised hy The Enclave, the american goverent, that famously fucked off from Washington months before the bombs to live on an oil rig full-time. That entire plan went FUBAR when The master emerged and started cracking vaults like cans of Heinz beans and then after all that was dealt with some tribal boarded the oil rig and nuked it to hell. The grand irony of the vaults was that they were supposed to be the "ends justify the means" types of experiments that were supposed to serve people that gave up on Earth and humanity before the bombs dropped, but ended up facilitating a new era of humanity and civilisation when several "control" vaults that didn't have an experiment and just housed vsult-tec scientists and normal people have opened and used their GECK's to create cities above ground, uniting under the flag of a New California Republic. The moral here is that it's better to solve your problems rather than run from it, that it only takes a bit of kindness and cooperation to bring people back from the abyss and that Elon Musk plan to colonize Mars is fucking stupid.

I've seen a few different arguments, like bringing up Titus' armor having tempered lining mod.
Problem being, tempered lining would be a reinforced layer to the existing plates, that wouldn't fix the welds issue.

This show perfectly encapsulates Bethesda's vision - make stuff look like the IP, make it shiny on the surface, change everything you can about the lore beneath, have it be pure "entertainment" without any core to support it.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if the actors played the games or not. It doesn’t even matter if the show remains 100% faithful to the games (which would be pretty difficult considering all of the retcons since F3).
All that matters is that the writers made a good show in a believable world with likable characters people can root for and empathize with. They failed miserably at this.

The show being canon actually makes it worse, if anything. At least if it was non-canon, like virtually every other video game adaptation ever made, it could be easily ignored. Any of the humor in that game is primarily tongue-in-cheek stuff where you take modern-world sanity and then look at 'so we have a gang of elvis impersonators' which is kind of hilarious but also just cool. It's not stupid 'hurr durr vault had big lizard mutant breeding program where cyclops overseer was the great-something nephew of it' or some such stupid insanity.

Okay so sure the character motivations are highly inconsistent with their actions, the worldbuilding is amateur and contradictory, the plot leans heavily on contrivance and deus ex machina to progress as needed, and despite being canonized as a continuation of the setting it invalidates significant points of established lore and mechanics, but did you consider corporation bad?

@@kinagrill It seems apparent that the only reasons for setting the show in LA were either to key jangle "things I know" from 1/2/NV (which they barely did, most game references were for Fallout 4), or to reset/purge the lore that OG fans liked (which feels at least grossly indifferent/disrespectful if not malicious). The story might not be wholly fixed if you set it somewhere else, but it would be significantly better. Nobody who likes this show and decries critics as haters can justify this point, they would be just as invested and possibly more happy if it was set in Miami or Houston or Seattle or New York or any number of places we haven't seen before with lots of potential, and with those settings the critics would be much less upset. So you have to ask, why set it in a place they know would be contentious and invite plot holes unless the show writers are stupid beyond belief and/or spiteful about the west coast lore?

I might be overthinking this, but notice how the Robobrain says "Wipe the surface clean." Like Father Elijah. And Lucy's brother gets permamently locked in that room after learning all of that info just like Dead Money. I feel like they tried and failed to recreate the tension and writing of the DLC.
The references to Old World Blues, and a little of Lonesome Road, feel like clear evidence for this theory.
They wanted all of the "vibes" of New Vegas with the two warring factions fighting over power, but without the logic of The Legion and true NCR. Philly is destroyed like Nipton, but with no flare or stopping power to make an audience care.
The mention of the roomba robobrain having been a failed cheap prop version of a Think Tank in the vid feels pretty spot on as well. This entire show essentially parodies all of New Vegas poorly.

You don't aim for limbs, or gear, etc. You fire directly as possible into the centerline of your target. This has been the case for damn near as long as modern wars have been fought. They're overdone. The BOS should not be in the east coast at all, or exist in this show. Even if they where accurate to the real BOS from Fallout 1, 2, and NV, it comes across as Bethesda unwilling to create new things for the franchise. Same thing with the Super Mutants, they keep on reusing Fallout 1 iconography instead of making new things to help expand the Fallout universe.

Now by '77 she could only mean 2277, which is as we all know the date when "The Fall of Shady Sands" occured.
I think that this Great Plague, that Lucy refers to didn't happen in the vault, instead it happened in Shady Sands, and the Fall isn't the atomic bomb that couldn't have dropped on that date, rather it's the Plague and the following consequences.
Later in that same train of thought Lucy does mention, that her father lost weight in that plague, but we do know, that her memories from that time aren't the greatest, because in another scene she's conviced that the big light above the crop field in the vault felt like the real Sun, only because of her mother's presence, and only later down the line does she realize, that it was in fact the real Sun she remembers.
I know, that since the show came out Todd Howard already clarified in an interview, that the bombs dropped on Shady Sands after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, but I havent seen anyone discuss this little detail, tha I belive I just found."

I’m so tired of people trying to explain away the ‘Fall of Shady Sands’ (which was coincidentally written to happen the same year Fallout 3 takes place 🤔). Typically, if a fledgling government’s capital is described as ‘fallen,’ you wouldn’t expect them to have expanded 400 miles to the east and started a war with the largest faction of the region a mere five years later.
The whole ‘the TV show doesn’t retcon NV’ line is also total BS. Nobody in New Vegas has anything to say about Shady Sands being in bad shape or having fallen five years prior, or anything. Based on that alone, the Fallout TV show retroactively contradicts (retcons) NV.

I understand people who aren't super invested in the games/lore liking the first few episodes; but I legit don't understand how anyone can sit through the season finale and then describe the show as "amazing". Hearing about the vault experiments in the game I was like: _"I don't get why they'd do that, but I don't have their side of the story, so..."_
However, once you have a character sit down and try to earnestly explain why they would purposefully overcrowd a vault: it just sounds world-breakingly dumb.
It's kind of (really) stupid but I prefer that one theory that the vaults are emulating various problematic scenarios in a colony spaceship, producing important data for the enclave. Althoooooough I'd rather not have another story with a pre war genocidal black and white faction

Vault-tec was doing the vault experiments in order to develop a Generation Ship, a colonization vessel that would travel for centuries to reach a habitable planet after Earth inevitably gets destroyed by nukes.
The project was supervised hy The Enclave, the american goverent, that famously fucked off from Washington months before the bombs to live on an oil rig full-time.
That entire plan went FUBAR when The master emerged and started cracking vaults like cans of Heinz beans and then after all that was dealt with some tribal boarded the oil rig and nuked it to hell.
The grand irony of the vaults was that they were supposed to be the "ends justify the means" types of experiments that were supposed to serve people that gave up on Earth and humanity before the bombs dropped, but ended up facilitating a new era of humanity and civilisation when several "control" vaults that didn't have an experiment and just housed vsult-tec scientists and normal people have opened and used their GECK's to create cities above ground, uniting under the flag of a New California Republic.
The moral here is that it's better to solve your problems rather than run from it, that it only takes a bit of kindness and cooperation to bring people back from the abyss and that Elon Musk plan to colonize Mars is fucking stupid.

Yeah... it'd require a lot of goodwill semi-retconning to get this back on track... like sure maybe the NCR left a lot of the Shady Sands area post-boomboom for whatever reason and is still out there, just less west-coasty.... but nope, I doubt they'd give a shit and care to do so.
