@@someone8206For some, autism is being unable to function at all. For many others, it's a huge lack of social skills which are needed to function in a society. Those lack of skills can cause those people to be treated very poorly, and it happens way more often than anyone may think. I have Asperger's like Sean does and I worked extremely hard to get some kind of social skills to not give off the wrong impression but I'm still terrible at understanding emotions and try my hardest to make sure I don't come off as some kind of prick. Autism seems so small from an outside perspective, but to those who have it, it can sometimes feel like living in a cage built by yourself to keep out everything else.
@@DarkSpyro29as someone who Also has it, I can confirm that this is true. I’m just grateful that my parents pushed me forward to be successful. Sure, my social skills face-to-face may be a hot mess, but I’m happy with who I am, and who I have with me.
I am so glad this show recognizes that autism is a neurological condition and not a mental one. I get so tired of being told i have a mental condition. Mental is mind. Neurological is physical and autism is a physical thing with how the actual brain developed.
There is no distinction between the brain and the mind. The mind is the manifestation of the brain’s cognitive functions. It’s not like the mind is the soul that lives in the brain. The mind IS the brain. In a way, all psychiatric conditions are neurological conditions that aren’t well understood at a mechanistic level. Schizophrenia is a neurological disease. It’s the only way you can have a strong familial inheritance. Same with bipolar. Same with depression. Clearly something physical gets passed down to the next generation by way of genes.
Not only that it's different for everyone autism is something that happens to some people and it's the difference in the brain which can both give different skills and abilities and give disabilities like being mute not being able to read easily etc
(I speak as someone who is autistic) There is no difference between ‘mental’ and ‘neurological’ beyond the superficial differences culture attaches to each. A condition like autism is neurological; we can also call it ‘mental’ but we have no evidence that something called a ‘mind’ exists. What we call a ‘mental’ condition is what medicine would call ‘neurological’.
Freddie is an otherworldly actor on a different plane I've never seen before! His eye movements, his mouth, voice quivering, sincerity in his voice, just magnificent!! Bravo!
I’ve never seen the show, but the look on the man’s face when Sean identified his condition was great. It was a look of relief that someone finally cared enough to pay attention.
Yes, they will take someone with autism and teach him to become a doctor or a school teacher. All depends on where he is on the spectrum. I babysat a boy whose mother was a president of the autistic group in Washington DC. Her son did not speak, but understood what was spoken to him. He went to a special school. He is a fine young man today. Do not judge until you have facts. Read and study, and sound knowledgeable.
I’m autistic. I got a full ride to university, earned a double major in mathematics and computer science, and immediately landed a good engineering job.
I don't know if you are writing sarcasm or not, don't really understand a thing but what I know is autism doesn't stop someone to become great in life.
Lol, you say that, but people judge all the time. I have spent my childhood in and out of doctors/ hospitals. But looking at me, you wouldn't think I was sickly. Yet that's how I was treated as if I was lying or acting out to get attention. It's so easy to say, but people still do.
I never saw the show when it was on TV I don't really have TV but I have something autism and I just was kind of hesitant to watch because of the portrayal of people with autism in a lot of TV and movies is not the best now I'm caught up in watching all of these clips and he absolutely nails it.
I like the way he speaks. Very literal, kind of calm and slow. I wish people would talk to me more like that instead of just laughing when I take something “too literally”. I’m sorry that I thought “we’re leaving at eight” meant we were leaving at eight, mom. I’m sorry that I needed a specific number instead of just “in a little bit”. I need to watch this show. I’m not into medical dramas or medical things in general, but I like Dr. Murphy even if his portrayal is a little bit inaccurate.
