Michael would’ve been into Trump’s candidacy at first because famous person but then he would have been like “If you touch a hair on Oscar Martinez’s head I will burn Trump Tower to the ground.”
What a fun thought experiment! Before watching the video, these are my thoughts: Oscar - progressive. A little harsh when debating, but he's thought things through. Kevin - He would say he's left leaning (probably just because he knows that's what Oscar says) but if he explained more in depth what his thoughts are, he might be a bit more right leaning. Angela - the opposite of Kevin. Says she's right leaning, but actually a bit more progressive than she'd admit. Meredith - doesn't care, as long as she can drink booze and everyone is having a good time. Creed - wants no government. Not less government, wants no government. Ryan - says he's left, but hasn't put in time to research any side. Kelly - sides with whatever her favorite celebrity says at any given time. Dwight - conservative Michael- I'm not sure. I get the sense he's lived a small life and doesn't have an idea of what any side truly means. But he'll talk to anyone about politics at any time. Pam and Jim - probably have similar views? Maybe both somewhere in the middle.
ryan's is interesting imo i could see him being a chameleon and agreeing with whatever side gets him further ahead in that moment. he probably turned a little republican during his VP run and definitely more liberal once he was advocating for hiring a homeless person as the manager lol
Pam, Jim and Michael all strike me as "vote for the person, not the party" people, at least at the time The Office took place, which was slightly less politically divisive. Slightly. I definitely get liberal vibes from Jim and Pam, but I think they'd care more about a specific individual. I don't really see Michael having any strong opinions, at least not at first. It also helps to remember that The Office takes place in a much less divisive time, at least for much of its run - less so in the last few seasons. So that is another factor. Characters who might have voted one way for a particular set of reasons in 2008 might feel very different in the current landscape.
I think this is such a cool concept. Making a video about a somewhat political topic, without making it political, well done. Honestly it is refreshing to be able to talk about "some" politics without it being a push to one side or the other with anger and frustration.
Interesting read of Jim. I'd say he's more of a "Grill Dad", i.e. he just wants to be left alone to do his thing in peace, live and let live. Wants the streets to be clean and safe and to have National Parks for biking, but basically not that interested in politics. Would roll his eyes equally at a super MAGA uncle and a super-"woke" niece.
Michael was an Obama guy but would have voted trump in 2016. His love of The art of the deal would have cinched it for him. He would have not voted in 2020 but said he voted for Hilary if pressed. He’ll vote for Kamala in 2024. He’d consider Cornell west but get confused as to how west fits in.
Democrats: Michael (until he gets cancelled), Jim, Pam, Kelly, Erin, Stanley, Phillis, Darryl, Karen, Oscar, Toby, Jo Bennett, Jan Republican: Andy, Dwight, Angela, Meredith, Bob Vance, Kevin, Robert California, Deangelo, David Wallace 3rd party: Ryan, Gabe, Creed
I think Ryan and Creed vote for themselves, Ryan bc he's that narcissist and Creed bc he thinks he has a chance to actually win obvs Angela votes conservative, the Meredith comentary is spot on

Not very "political", but still very right-wing Kevin: doesn't vote but, if forced, would usually vote Democrat, just cos. Meridith: i feel like she would be one of those rare Obama to Trump voters. Ryan: Republican cos it will be good for his taxes when he inevitably becomes super rich... But i agree with your assessment - Ryan will pretend to have the values of whoever he is speaking to. Kelly: almost by default, usually votes Democrat. No real ideological ties to any party or person. Toby: votes Democrat, but hates Democrats. Andy: Andy is harder than i thought to pin down. But generally speaking, votes Republican because his parents do. Stanley: Disillusioned Democrat. Used to be radical, but not anymore Pam: normie Democrat, nothing interesting. Jim normie Democrat, nothing interesting. Dwight:has supported various anti-government groups over the years. No alligience to anyone but Dunder Mifflin and his land... Not necessarily a standard "conservative", but more authoritarian right-wing. Hates "the left". Probably likes Trump. Michael: was very excited to vote for Obama. Liked Trump because he's hilarious, but doesn't like how divisive he is. Is generally disinterested in politics in 2024. Will probably vote for Harris because Holly (who didn't like his support for Trump) is excited about her.
This was excellent, particularly how you qualify that politics pre-2015 are different than they are in 2024. Given how Trump has captured the working man away from Democrats, I believe Daryl would now be a (quiet) Republican.
Fun thought experiment. You have sound reasoning. The part about Dwight highlights how the writers were all over the place with the character. I guess maybe they were trying to highlight how much of an enigma Dwight was.
Michael would totally abstain from voting, not because of any political belief but because he cannot stand conflict and he views politics as conflict. he might have a preferred candidate, but he'd be too stressed to actually vote. It'd be like when he had to choose between firing devon and creed
Hey it’s 2024. We can stop with the long disclaimers about how the video’s just for fun. Anyone halfway reasonable knows it and anyone not doesn’t care about the disclaimer.
You should do a video talking about how realistic each character is. I think it would be interesting to decide how characters who you might think are real people aren’t very realistic
Pam complaining about co-workers not putting in their fair share of the work isn't necessarily a Republican or right-leaning ideology. Authoritarian socialists like those of command economies (eg USSR) saw this same problem. In the conservative sense, not working for the community is bad as the earnings of others is being used by the government on you for little reason. Socialists might believe something similar: as each individual makes up the state, not working or cleaning up after yourself in this case, damages society as we all need to work together for the betterment of humanity. So both ideologies have the same end goal in mind, but discredit laziness for different reasons. Actually a lot of modern Republicans who believe in less intervention in the economy are seen as authoritarian however by essence that is a libertarian or free-market liberal view. Many conservatives are only conservative in social policy which is more apparent to votes but are actually liberal in terms of the economy as they probably believe strongly in free-market capitalism. Likewise, socialists are generally "progressive" on social policy but conservative on the economy in the sense that it should be tightly regulated in the name of spending and welfare etc. So Pam, like most people, represents a nuanced view of work productivity which cannot be clearly defined in left or right wing terms.
I like your analysis of Jim and Pam, however, the public shaming about the dirty microwave feels like more weight on the left side of the scale than the right. It's an exhortation for everyone to contribute to the shared space, instead of it falling to the lowest member of the social hierarchy, you know?

Sooo I know this is for entertainment and is generally pretty spot on, I think the problem here is you're not taking all of the 4 political points on the compass into account. Pam is socially liberal, supports gay rights, is somewhat traditional and vaguely religious. She's more authoritarian than Jim, but authoritarian does not automatically mean Republicanor socially Right. Jim is irreverent and just kinda does what he wants. Jim is similarly liberal but definitely not leftist since his main goal in life seems to be to reach a level of financial success.
