Does anyone feel like Marimba is such an underrated instrument? There is so much complexity and beauty to it
exactly why i love four mallet stuff
It’s become the most prominent percussion instrument in our pedagogy despite a rather impractical existence. I wouldn’t say it’s underrated. It’s drowned out so much of our craft.
Doris L EVERY. SINGLE. DAY!
@@austinshoupe3003 everyone I've ever met never has any idea what a marimba is when I tell them I play it. It's SOO underrated.
Me too
How could anyone dislike this? Even if you disagree with the interpretation, this is undoubtedly worthy of a like. Marimba haterz...
I almost disliked it for the last note. That sounds so petty but that last note is petty.
Block o Butter I believe the last note is written as like an “intro note” to the next prelude.
@@gio8131 yes i know. Doesn't stop me from loathing it.
Block o Butter I need to ask, why? Why not just leave without any reaction ( or just leave a comment “ ugh, the last note was petty”). Why? I know that you ended up NOT clicking dislike, but I must admit that UNLESS the video is controversial, presents aggression, offensive messages, opinions that one might disagree with - I tend to think of “dislikers” as hateful, sad, pathetic, jealous people. You don’t have to “like” it. In fact you might even hate the sound of marimba, but even in that case you should just go somewhere else and not click “dislike”. Otherwise what - roam around TH-cam disliking all the marimba videos??? Help me out if you can. Thanks.
@@jayalexander6798 it was a COMEDIC comment you duck. Apparently not comedic enough.
So if anyone doesn’t know this, the last C# at the end represents a transition into the second movement (which is in A Major so the C# makes sense)
Christian Hedin I actually didn’t know that. Thanks
@@first_namelast_name274 Thanks!
Thanks, I always hated how out of place it was when learning it lol
Thanks for explaining this important detail.
Yooo!!!! Ney Rosauro’s in the chat
I performed this at my senior percussion recital at Ithaca College on February 29th. My last performance on marimba before the pandemic, I miss hearing marimbas!!
I want to play this. and i want to know where this guy shops and gets his clothing

This is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard, for any instrument.
This video is just absolutely beautiful. The instrument's sound, this piece, the room. Dang.
I love how those octaves in his left hand "fall" right into place...so satisfying!
ThatWasBeautiful
No, ThatWasSexy
Schmexy
its gotten to the point that i don't feel like this piece is complete without the random c# at the end
Jason Murray yeah, just bought the sheet music turns out the C # is a try ally written in the music. Such a weird resolve at the end of such a great piece
the c# is to transition to the next movement, which is in a major
I played this my freshman year of high school and I loved every minute of it I’m so glad this video was here or else I’d never known about it. Also now my right hand laterals are always on point ;)
how does he even grace note? it's so effortless!
That and the rolled chords are so clean!
I love that Rosauro knowingly used a note that he knew everyone would hate at the end
I actually kinda like it! It kinda adds a sort of haunting and unease that I feel like fits the rest of the piece.
after having learned, and performed this(messing up quite a bit) I am relieved to hear that at 2:36 even Victor, AT LEAST, fumble those massive cross handed jumps. Even then, kudos and excellent job!
ちょこっと硬めのマレットが、またいい味を出しててとても素敵ですね!勉強になります…
自分はこの曲は柔らかい音色を目指して演奏してるので、新鮮でした!
素敵な曲、素敵な演奏…
I performed this at state this year and got a 1!
Is a one good or bad
@@pinheadlarry8401 It is the best scoore
Oh I enjoyed that so much. Perfect performance of a great piece!
Learning this right now for college auditions. Beautiful piece of music
a truly exceptional performance! Phrasing, musicality, and tone production are all repped equally. Congrats!
i dont wanna know where he shops i wanna know who his barber is
god his beard is amazing
@suddenpenguin that's not what i was expecting when you said you wanted to know his barber but go off
I'm playing this for my solo, and if my teacher doesn't like it then he can bite me.
Классссссссс ! Молодец ! Заслушаться хочется.... Не единой ошибки ! :-)
I love this piece it feels like an impromptu composition
Opening my recital with this piece. I can't wait!
My goodness I read rectum instead of recital
Playing this for my next concert. SOUNDS AWESOME!
Beautiful through its technicality
beautiful! I hope I can play it like you one day
Beautiful interpretation of that piece, and technically amazing!
the first bit of the beginning sounded almost exactly like Scheherazade
the fictional character in middle-eastern legends?
@@kaleb1081 the famous piece by Rimski-Korsakov
Yesss…drew me to the piece
playing this for my solo festival so pretty :)
God I hate that last note with a fiery passion but this piece is amazing!
The last note is the best part! Adds extra color and flavor to the chord
The importance of the last note is the Dorian style with C# for a best harmonic effects in E minor.
Wow! Basta rosauro ang galing😊😊 proud rosauro here!
HAJAHAUAHAHAHAHAH THAT LAST NOTE WHAT IS THAT
I made this so I could comment Its the same note as the starting note for prelude 2, so its the note that transitions to it
Actually I’m looking at the sheet music right now, the next two notes to the 2nd prelude are a chord with A in the bass and E# in the treble. And it’s in A major soooo idk what it was lmao
Christian ford, it's an A and a G# in the second prelude so it actually kind of fits
It might have made more sense for that note to be written as part of prelude 2. But maybe the composer didn't want Prelude 1 to make sense by itself?
I can’t tell, does he get to a low G? Asking to see if I can fit this on a 4.3 octave
Gabriel Albartus the lowest note is A, so it fits on a 4.3 octave
I wish they had the other 2 preludes too
Majestic sound
i forgot i had youtube set to play in 2x speed and thought he had like super human speed for a good second
Some parts of this piece are reminiscent of Rachmaninoff’s ‘Prelude in C# minor” (the coffin composition)
Dawg that raised 6th isn’t even bad. It creates a kind of dorian sound (natural minor scale with raised 6th degree)making it kind of mysterious I love it. One could also argue melodic minor as there are some occurrences of a sharp 7th in this piece both of which combine to make melodic minor (natural minor scale with raised 6th and 7th degree /or major scale with lowered 3rd degree). Melodic minor doesn’t have to always have those 6ths and 7th raised it’s the artists choice of when to implement them
Great performance!
I didn't know John Cusack played the marimba!
i lov this movie
Anyone nows what’s the theme at the intro ? Sounds amazing
this is just so pretty !!
This dude's hair and clothes = 10/10
the 7 people that disliked this I think accidentally hit the wrong button.
Also, I am playing this for my 8th grade solo.
KLG Vortex. WOW You are way ahead I could never play such good music for my eight grade solo
i didnt even know what a marimba was in eighth grade
I was just wondering can this be played on a 4.3 octave?
Henry hey, yes it can, i am playing it this year, an it is perfectly fine 😊😊
It’s written for a 4.3 🙂
Incredible...
Incrível!!!
Bravo!
Hello. I'm in the marching band and I'm a marimba/xylophone/vibraphone player and I want to get better with my quad-mallet playing. I'm not that good but, could you tell me the best grip to use (I don't like it but I've been playing Stevens grip per instruction
For Marimba, always use the Stevens grip. Once you become proficient with it you'll never look back. Personally, I don't understand how anyone even manages to pull off a decent marimba piece using the Burton grip. Most Vibe players use Burton due to the different playing style; xylophone is usually a 2 mallet event, but if there is actually a need for 4, use the Stevens.
Look Stevens is the best grip to go on Marimba. But don’t be scared to try other grips like Burton, Traditional, etc. while some people will
Tell you to use burton for vibraphone, use whatever grip you are most comfortable with. Granted at a younger age, all grips will be uncomfortable because they’re all unnatural. But if you’re a beginner, learn Stevens. Purchase Method of Movement for Marimba, by Leigh Howard Stevens. That’s how I learned and perfected my grip.
Self-aware Analytic I use Ney rosaro extended cross grip I really like it and you can use it on any instrument
I guess in 6 years you had the time to decide, but I feel like you have to choose what you feel the better with. For example I play burton grip on marimba for 5 years now, and I've never felt so good. But I know traditional grip like Vassinela gives you so much better sound
imo you gotta try for yourself what you feel the most confident with
im curious, what have you chosen now ?
@@citronah ah. Okay. So I’ve been going through college for a while now. I haven’t played any mallet instruments that often. I still fiddle with them when I have the opportunity, though. I sort of stuck with Steven’s grip, I guess. I’m pretty comfortable playing chords with it. Actually the very first time I played the vibraphone I was forced to play a bunch of chords at awkward angles within a very short time frame. So that was a sink or swim experience I guess. It was fun though. I’ll probably buy a marimba and mallets to practice at home when I finally have a disposable income, but for now Im too stressed to dedicate too much time or money to that.
My main issue has always been with speed and control of rotation to play individual notes with each mallet. I’ve gotten better, but I still wouldn’t consider myself super proficient. I still prefer playing with two mallets when I’m playing a bunch of notes in quick succession.
Thanks for your interest.
Cual es el nombre de la pieza que siempre ponen al principio de cada vídeo? Name of the piece at the begining of all the videos ?
Amazing, but what the hell was the last note doing there? It seemed so out of context and didn't belong? Just me?
The way it was explained to me was that it's a prelude, meaning it leads into other parts, so the last note is a cliffhanger on purpose
+Roman Lanzas ah! Thank you. I don't think that note should be played unless you're going to follow it with the whole rest of the piece. But whatever, it's just one note.
The piece obviously never explains why the note is there, but the note IS notated in the sheet music and so it is played. This prelude is in a set of three but the note is not related to the following pieces
I'm going to bet that you don't have a single jazz bone in your body, eh?
❤
There is nothing wrong with the last note, although it could express a last hint of bitterness.
Killer job!
Please tell me, did he play with the sticks of the m213 series?
Where can I find the song on paper?
finally here
I love this solo. Are there any similar to it that require a 5 octave? My high school got a new five octave rosewood marimba and my director wants me to play something that requires one.
Colton Weeks there is a solo I've been wanting to play but I dont have a 5 octave at my school so I'm kinda jealous😂. It is called Unforced Rhythms by Brian Blume
Ethan Concha yeah it's a Yamaha and it's such a warm sound.
Lucky bastard. :'(
@@brianrandall3795 our school is broke and cant afford a 5 octave lol
how do i buy this piece without having to buy 75 books? literally not possible on the website
This is incredible
what's the intro's name?
WHY THE D FLAT AT THE END NOOO
it's a c#, its to transition into the next movement which is in A major
Where can i get this?
OMG!!!! I want to play this sooo bad.
I was gonna preform this for state a solo this year but I don't think I can due to the pandemic. -_-
dang
how difficult is it? which grade?
What's the solo in the intro?
molto bella
That C#
If it's a transition to mvt 2: why the hell can't it just be the first note of the 2nd movement instead of hanging around at the end of mvt 1!
it is minor sixth chord
Does anybody know what grip he's using?
Stevens Grip
I don't think he missed a single note.
Pu ga duh pu ga duh pu ga duh!
What's with the Db at the end?
TheMichael2737
C# for us music theory nerds
(K.S. has a sharp so flats come out of diminished chords)
Prelude 2 is in A major, so the C# fits with the beginning of the following prelude.
The end triggers me.
same
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
NOTHING SHALL RESOLVE
Oh, you thought this was a nice e minor chord? THINK AGAIN
It’s a modulating note to go to prelude 2. Some argue it shouldn’t be played when the prelude stands alone.
His technique is incredibly amazing and also his hit rate, but for my taste he could play a bigger variety of loudness and also longer fermate and rittertando.
Anyone have the music?
Idk why but when he hit that last note I burst out laughing
