I am SEW very pleased that you and Missouri Star Quilt Company have joined hands in allowing all of us to use your link to receive 20% off our purchases. I live in Washington state, in what we refer to as the Pacific Northwest area of the US. I have done shopping at MSQC for a few years now ... in fact my sewing studio could be another one of their cute little shops in Hamilton Missouri! But I digress ... I am watching all of your videos, appreciating your style, choices of projects, and, most of all, you, Rachel. You have a lovely manner, and enjoy our time together on youtube. Thank you so much for all you share. You are delightful!
I am so excited that you are doing the Home Town in a sew along. I just got my applique shapes today and am anxious to get started. I have a ton of Lori's fabrics so am ready to go. I love your videos Rachel. You are so calm and relaxed and it helps me to step into a project with you as it makes learning easier and mor relaxed.. I have decided that (in my head) I will adopt you as my daughter as she has no interest in sewing or quilting. I am off to put some quilting boards together so I can try Lori's way of using them to construct the blocks. I live in Canada and watching you first thing in the morning with my coffee is how I start my day. Thanks for all you do.
Hello Rachel, Julie here from the US. I was wondering if you would do a video of how you store your fabrics, scraps, future projects and works in progress etc… love your channel. You’re a ray of sunshine! ❤
Hi Julie 💕 so glad you are enjoying my videos. I don't have much of an organisation system as I sew in my living room, but I have a 6 piece plastic drawer set next to my table for scraps and notions, sorted by colour. Fat quarters are stored under my bed 🤣 and then WIPs, i purchase gift boxes, like nice fancy ones so I can have them dotted around or stacked in the corner and they look cute compared to plastic storage containers. The gift boxes actually work out cheaper than plastic boxes
They are very good and also helpful. I used to live in Cumberland which is only about an hour drive from them and it is also possible to visit in person to purchase fabric if you give them a ring
I'm excited to see Sew Hot getting a mention. What an Incredible shop it is too. I still get overwhelmed at the massive range of fabrics and notions that they stock and I'm so lucky that I'm only just down the coast. 😊
You can use wooden skewers with a little point to turn your pieces. Also if you use pinking scissors to trim around your pieces it helps you get smoother edges. One more thing, if you have a darning foot or a clear plastic foot for your machine it makes it easier to sew around the shapes.
Thank you for a delightful video. I just happened upon your TH-cam channel yesterday and am enjoying watching you create such beautiful items. I will be traveling from Texas to London in a few weeks and discovered our hotel is just a short ride to the Liberty fabric shop! I love these fabrics especially how soft they feel. Hoping to be able to find a small kit or fat quarter bundle while I’m there. Keep these wonderful videos coming your voice is very soothing and you seem to be a kind person.
@cherylcordova8455 welcome to my channel 💕 I am very glad you are enjoying my videos. I'm sure you will absolutely love the liberty shop and it would be lovely to treat yourself to some fabric.. something to remember your trip with
I am for sure going to do the sew along with you. I need to get the fabric and the shapes I have ordered already I saw the fabric on line. Little expensive but I will work on getting some together before sept am excited to fellow you. I live in USA in Missouri about 4 hours away from Missouri quilt town I ordered shapes from her shop and maybe can get fabric too. I love visiting her little town with all the different buildings with so many different fabric makes your head swim. Just about any kind of fabric imaginable .😊
A tip on the small design boards. Use flannel instead of batting as there is less fluff. You can use thick/wide tape instead of binding for the edges, this means less sticky mess 😂 . There are so many patterns on tape, I have sunflower tape on my boards.
Thank you Rachel for the Video, I love that quilt and I love all Lori Holt fabric and patterns, I have made some of her quilts using that method, and it gives a 3 D. Affect. Your colours are all gorgeous.😊🪡
I bought my quilt kit and started to organize and never started it. So I am eager to start this with you. I live in the USA so you are my first international sew along host that I will be joining. I was thinking of getting started on it since I’ve already organized it when it first came out since I buy the kit I make 2 copies of the cutting guide, cut it apart and clip the fabrics with the cut guide that belong to the houses 🏘️. This has helped so much that way I cut out the bigger pieces be for the little ones and I don’t run out of the large pieces I might need in the quilt. I also number plastic envelopes/ziplock bags and add those pieces to the envelopes/ziplock bags and that way as I cut I just add the pieces for the fabrics in there. I hope this will help anyone who is doing this sew along. Happy sewing ~Martha California USA 🇺🇸
Just ordered the templates so I’ll be joining in 🎉 might be a bit behind as the templates won’t be here in time for the start but I’m sure I’ll catch up!
Another little tip.... use a needle to 'pull' the seams on curves. Do this from the right side. Wiggle the needle until seam is bang on stitching line. Pressed open seams will help too 😉 x
I always order from the Fat Quarter Shop. They are the first ones to have everything from Lori Holt, and Kimberly Jolly and her crew, are very helpful:) 😊😊
I'm checking out Missouri Star tonight. I love your background of other projects. No need to finish one before starting another. Have to grab the excitement of a new challenge.
Good Morning Rachel, Excited to watch you create this project! If you have a crochet hook, try it to push out your corners, points and curves in your applique pieces. Always good to see you😊
Hi, Rachel. Just wanted to say that I made design boards a year ago and find them so useful for carrying the pieces to my machine. I also bought a set of numbered and lettered pins to mark the different pieces. Works very well for complicated blocks.
Great video, I looked up all the info you said and loved the quilt but came to conclusion that I can’t do this and finish my 100 squares for my Bella. So as you can imagine granddaughters come first!! But I am excited to watch you! So happy about the expansion of your channel too and proud of you for all your creative work. I finish work on the 13th of September and will be off till May! Then it is me and you in my sewing room. Going to be a very productive winter. Oh how can I send you something? Jean Colorado USA
I understand that not everyone is able to join in, especially with other projects on the go. You are going to have some wonderful time off.. lots of sewing on the horizon ❤️
You can use wooden skewers with a little point to turn your pieces. Also if you use pinking scissors to trim around your pieces it helps you get smoother edges. One more thing, if you have a darning foot or a clear plastic foot for your machine it makes it easier to sew around the shapes. Thanks for your tutorials. Yes, I’ll try to join you with this quilt along.
I’m very excited to join you in doing the Home Town quilt!! I already have the templates and I’ve been wanting to get some of Lori Holt’s fabric from Missouri Star. I love watching your videos and feeling like I’m in England !!
Very excited to start this Sew Along. I was looking for some hand sewing to do at a retreat that I'm attending with my Mum and I've just finished my EPP quilt and the thought of doing another EPP project was giving me hives 🤣so this will be a nice break. Planning to machine sew before hand then leave the appliqué for when we're there.
I love the idea of this sew a long, but total lack of space....for now, and lack of skills I'd be lost!! It looks ever sew pretty tho!! Lovely video, looking forward to watching your progress!!xxx
I have been collecting fabrics for the hometown quilt by Lori Holt. I also made a couple of project boards. I would recommend that you use the silicone finger protectors while hot gluing. I also used my iron and a sheet of greaseproof paper to flattern any lumps of glue. I am going to try masking tape on the edges where hot glue might squeeze through more than I want it to. I did my first order with MSQC a couple of weeks ago. I bought their Rotary Cutter. It was damaged but they were very quick at sending me a replacement. I will definitely be buying more. They do have a bundle system when ordering and keep that open for a week where you can add to your bundle. It's very tempting to add more and only have one lot of postage to pay. I will try your code on my next order. Thank you Rachel, can't wait to start sewing my Hometown quilt. ❤🎉
I am looking forward to this project. I downloaded the sewing guide (not a pattern) and have drawn up the pieced block patterns. Having watched Lori Holt, I have made a couple of changes - I am making HSTs (8 @ time) and strip units rather than sewing lots of 1.5” squares together (where appropriate). I find this helps with accuracy. My shapes won’t arrive in time for the start of the sew along so I have already started in the pieced blocks. I am sewing my quilt entirely from my fabric scraps and stash.
Ooh exactly what I was looking for in applique templates. Thanks for that. A small crochet hook or blunted knitting needle will also work for your corners. A chopstick too. Have a great week.
Rachel you are a ray of sunshine! I always look forward to your videos. I would love to do the sew along but it will have to wait. We currently live in Africa and I brought way to many projects with me and need to focus on those first and foremost. I do plan to use your discount today though because I really want the Ingrid embroidery kit, I’ll just send them to my son’s house in the US, that way when I visit next year I’ll have something to do.
Hi Rachel, I will be joining you for the Hometown Sew Along and currently preparing all of my bits and pieces. May I ask what interfacing you will be using? I'm hoping that it will be one that I can source locally. Thank you for providing fabulous content on your channel. Jx
Hi Janet, how exciting! I have all my bits ready and waiting now. I brought some lightweight interfacing from pretty fabrics and trim (they are in the uk) I haven't tested it yet but she said in the description that it is ideal for this type of applique, I'll add the link in the video description in a moment 💕
I'm hoping to stitch along beginning in Sept also. I have collected all of Lori Holts posts on this project and I have her template set and made my own block board. I do need to organize all my fabric bits as I plan to make my blocks from crumb blocks. I have it in my brain that it will make the pieces interesting and use up some scraps. We'll see how it goes. I've had this on my mind for several months. I'm not good about visiting instagram. I found your video very enjoyable to watch.
I love Lori Holt. I really love that house quilt. It’s so pretty. I would love to join in. I’m not ready for it yet either. I’d have to go get everything so thanks for sharing as always. I love your videos.😊
I'm exhausted just looking at Lori's post. I do like the idea of the house shapes templates, though, so I might be enticed to join in. I so love your videos.
There is alot of information on her blog, if you watch her youtube videos on the quilt, it's a lot easier to follow and then the blog makes more sense 💕
Oh fun!... I actually have a cutie cute Lori Holt kit, and even though it is a different one, I think I will try a block a month disciplined approach. Got all the supplies...might as well...or at least I will watch the fun. I ended up with 3 new UFOs from FoQ classes...lol😅
It would be great to have you join along Mary Ann, it's good to use supplies that you already have aswell. more projects after Foq is part of the journey.. I'm planning on changing my applique fabric out tonight... brought a pink fabric instead 🤣🤣
I just got the same two mini charm packs in the mail that you ordered. That's so funny to me. I also just ordered Lori Holt's hometown project box from the fat quarter shop to store my fabric. You might be interested in that too. 😁
Great minds think alike! I just saw the home town project box but it was sold out with a company here in the UK so I was just searching elsewhere for it.
When I saw the MSQC video for the Santa panel I ordered It right away. I haven’t thought too far ahead about borders etc but I might need to grab some of the stars that you bought too.
Hi Rachel! Love watching your channel and all of the fun things you do... I found you while learning about EPP and, of course, Liberty fabrics. My friend, Mary Ann, recently met you at the festival of quilts .... I was green with jealousy, LOL ... she still isn't home from her trip across the pond for another week or so .... as Alaska is entering the fall season I am starting to settle in and prepare some winter projects and looking forward to the many videos and discussions Mary Ann and I will surely have. You provide many sweet hours of entertainment for us. Thank you for your sweet self! Cheers!
Make yourself some more by quilt boards sewing rhe binding on. I made lots of quilt boards that way. No burnt fingers. Use a Levi needle . It is really easy.
Just bought the Home Town so simple shapes from Missouri 😀 waiting for delivery..... with lots of Lori Holt fabrics from the Missouri 25% off Lori Holt day 😊 I did use your link and got a good saving. So THANK YOU ❤ I'm currently doing a Lori Holt 'Bee Happy' see along. It doesn't take long to work out how to turn out the applique shapes. You deffo need either the cover or prym corner/ edge shaper. A tip is to put the point between the fabric and interfacing so you push up the fabric not the interfacing. I bought my interfacing from Amazon (I'm in Nottinghamshire so UK) I bought this: Vlieseline/Vilene Interlining Sew in - Light - L11 / 310 - White Works perfectly The 30's Playtime fabrics work really well with the Lori Holt fabrics. Im just matching my stash as best as posdible to the Lori fabrics listed. Really looking forward to this sew along 😊 will you create a FB group? Great vid as ever Rachel!
I absolutely love your projects and your videos. I am trying the quilt as you go in the brick pattern - but also making it as a temperature quilt. 😃 I just tried to order additional supplies from Missouri Star, but unfortunately, the discount isn't working. I used your link to go to Missouri Star's website, added items to my cart, but when I go to checkout, there's no discount applied. 🙁
I wasnt going to start anything until new year and try and finish up what i have on the go but i seen this and oh no i have just bought the template set so it has to be.
I love all things Lori holt. Sadly, I can't buy her fabric, books or simple shapes here in France. I made lots of her blocks from her see your stash series.
Always love a new project! ,- can never have too many😊. Thiis is going to sound a stupid question, but what are the project boards for? Love your videos, thank you. ❤
Not a silly question at all. You can use them for all sorts, when you cut out any quilt blocks, you can lay them out on the boards so you don't forget the order. In this case you layer up the applique on the board so you get the positioning correct.
I tried the hot glue method for design boards and just made a mess of It. I ended up using a no glue method and that worked so much better and quicker for me. I have a video on my channel if you’re interested in seeing a different method. I kept saying that I’ll never use a design board but I find myself reaching for one quite often. I really like the interfacing appliqué method. It did take me a little bit of practice but doesn’t everything? I’m looking forward to following your progress on the quilt along.
Hi Rachel, me again 😊 have you decided which house you will be starting with? I would like to prepare my fabrics as there are so many different colours & patterns and it would help me allocate some of my fabrics. Thank you ❤
Hello Rachel. What weight interfacing will you be using. I want to buy locally but there are light medium and heavy to choose from. Looking forward to the sealing x
Hello there, I'm going to be using lightweight sew in interfacing. I've linked the one I'm going to use in the description box.. although I haven't actually used it yet so I can't say if it's any good
I’m so glad you ordered from MSQC, I’ve always wanted to try it but Im worried about added import tax, how does that work? Do you have to pay any tax on top of the delivery? And how is that done?
As I'm part of their influencer team, these were gifted to me and marked as a gift for customs however I don't believe you pay import tax on goods under £139 but double check on the gov website
D from North Carolina USA. Was trying to figure out what your 6 PM is for your videos for the East Coast here. I got the templates for the quilt and have looked through my fabric and ordered some 5 inch squares and a couple yardages. I looked at the Fabric that you buy and it is outrageous Here, it is like $30 a yard for libertyfabric. I really liked it seeing your fabric but can’t afford that. Can’t wait to start making the quilt with you. Downloaded the leaflet showing all the colors, but it doesn’t specify what each house pieces are. I guess you will explain that in the video.
Hi D, if you visit the following link, you can see all the instructions for each house... beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2023/10/home-town-sew-along-big-finish.html?m=1
@@stitchwithrachel yeah I got the instructions and I looked through them closer and yeah I see how you match the template that with each house I have four of the houses cut out and the flag house. I followed in have it all glowed down, but I would like to go ahead with the other three houses I have cut out. Do you know how to get the next tutorials for the rest of the houses?
Not just shipping costs. Unfortunately the last time I ordered from MStar, I had to pay a substantial amount over and above on import tax. Couldn’t take thae chance after that!😢
I found flannel on the boards nice for fabric to adhere. Just another option, but since you do videos the pieces might stay on when holding them up. ( I’m not a TH-camr, so maybe I’m not being helpful). Love your channel and color choices. Thank you
As they "gift" me the products they mark it as a gift and you don't pay vat on gifts however I don't think you pay vat on items less than £139 coming into the country but double check on the government website x
Is there an easy way to find what fabric color gets cut for the template pieces? Looking thru the starting guide is extensive to find the piece #. I am definitely NOT cutting everything up first.
On each blog post lori lists the templates used in each block but it doesn't say what element that will be but hoping it will be easy to tell from the photo guide she has up. I'll just be cutting each month aswell.
@@stitchwithrachel thank you. It would be helpful if the guide separated the block piecing cutting separate from the interfacing listing. Sorry to bother you with this. Thanks for a quick response
Hi again, I downloaded the guide and have ordered and received the templates. so do you know what time your video to sew the blocks for the USA coast North Carolina. What type of interface (wonder Under). I also ordered from MSQC and did not receive a discount thru your utube...
All of the sewing instructions can be found via lori holt with the link below... beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2023/10/home-town-sew-along-big-finish.html?m=1
Hi! Would a clip help hold the binding in place while you glue? Also I am getting a wool mat which has a tool (sold separately) that you can roll over it to clean threads and stuff off of the wool mat as well as the batting on your beautiful new design boards..well done. Very inexpensive. The design boards get messy very quickly. I found that tool at Fat Quarter Shop but have seen them at other quilt shops that carry wool mats as well. I know you'll love those design boards they sure help to keep your projects straight. I am also getting the 30's Playtime fabric tomorrow. I just love it and thought it would be cute for an EPP project. I just can't afford any more Liberty right now. My husband and me both are fighting off Covid again at the moment so I am stuck in bed but catching uo in some videos on here. See you again soon!💕
Wools mats are a great alternative to these design boards as you can also iron your block in situ! I've seen the tool you mean and it looks very handy. I am wishing you both a speedy recovery 💕
Hello could I ask if you had to pay Vat and Duty on your package. I'm wondering if it's worth ordering from MSQC if there's a big charge in U.K. end? I ordered years ago and had to pay 80 pounds before I could collect from the Post Office and yes Sew Hot shop has a lot of Lori Holt items. I would love to order again from MSQC though as they did have good bargains and wide range, thanks for any help you can give re charges at our end. 💐💐

For other UK viewers, I have found that the Sew Hot fabric shop in Fleetwood stocks most of the Lori Holt range at a very reasonable price.
They are very good and also helpful. I used to live in Cumberland which is only about an hour drive from them and it is also possible to visit in person to purchase fabric if you give them a ring
I've just joined the Lori Holt fat quarter club from sew hot got 8 lovely fq's
@angiebolton8635 I was tempted to join that! Are the FQs a good combination?
I'm excited to see Sew Hot getting a mention. What an Incredible shop it is too. I still get overwhelmed at the massive range of fabrics and notions that they stock and I'm so lucky that I'm only just down the coast. 😊
@stitchwithrachel yes I would say so, they are from her autumn collection, I'll send you a pic later on Instagram x

I'll see if I can get organised by September.
I’m in for the SAL! I used your MSQC code and got 20% my order of the templates and a couple other bits. Looking forward to Sept 1.
This video was the perfect timing for you then! I will also update you here on youtube aswell. Your quilt sounds amazing 💕
I love Lori Holt. I really love that house quilt. It’s so pretty. I would love to join in. I’m not ready for it yet either. I’d have to go get everything so thanks for sharing as always. I love your videos.😊
For the appliqué shorten your stitch length. It will help greatly with the curves. You are inspiring me to start another project!
I did shorten the stitch to 2.5 from 3 but maybe I'll take it down to 2 instead. Thank you for the tip 💕
Hi Rachel, I use a knitting needle as a point turner or a crochet hook at a push 😉
A knitting needle, what a good idea!
Chop sticks make good turners!
I use fleece in my board and I made few of those in different sizes.
Hello Rachel, I used polyester batting on my design boards so that the fabric pieces would stick better. 😉😇
I would love to do the quilt along with you
Yay!
That sounds like fun. I love Lori Holt. I made some of her design boards and I use them for quilting and also when hand embroidery and cross stitch.
Can’t wait until September, count me in. Thank you for doing this 😊
Yay 💕
For turning things, I always just use a wooden chopstick. They are free and work brilliantly 🙂
It's gorgeous isn't it! Yeah I thought the cream with stars would be good to match the creams and it does match perfectly
Cheers!
It was lovely to meet Mary Ann, and she told me about her sewing circle... you all sound wonderful. You are all blessed to have each other. 💕💕
Make yourself some more by quilt boards sewing rhe binding on. I made lots of quilt boards that way. No burnt fingers. Use a Levi needle . It is really easy.
Just bought the Home Town so simple shapes from Missouri 😀 waiting for delivery..... with lots of Lori Holt fabrics from the Missouri 25% off Lori Holt day 😊
I did use your link and got a good saving. So THANK YOU ❤
I'm currently doing a Lori Holt 'Bee Happy' see along.
It doesn't take long to work out how to turn out the applique shapes.
You deffo need either the cover or prym corner/ edge shaper. A tip is to put the point between the fabric and interfacing so you push up the fabric not the interfacing.
I bought my interfacing from Amazon (I'm in Nottinghamshire so UK) I bought this:
Vlieseline/Vilene Interlining Sew in - Light - L11 / 310 -
White
Works perfectly
The 30's Playtime fabrics work really well with the Lori Holt fabrics.
Im just matching my stash as best as posdible to the Lori fabrics listed.
Really looking forward to this sew along 😊 will you create a FB group?
Great vid as ever Rachel!
Thands for sharing
You might try a knitting needle or crochet hook if you have one handy as a point turner!
Oh that is strange! It only applies to order over $50 and if the items are on sale for a bugger discount then that will override my code
I wasnt going to start anything until new year and try and finish up what i have on the go but i seen this and oh no i have just bought the template set so it has to be.
@PaulineWhitaker-r8f ooops I'm a bad influence! It'll be fun though
@stitchwithrachel do you know which block we are doing first? Would Like to get prepared. So looking for to it.
I'm not so good with hot glue, so I use decorative duct tape instead of binding. Works great for me and much faster.
That's a great idea!
I use a chopstick as a point turner.
I love all things Lori holt. Sadly, I can't buy her fabric, books or simple shapes here in France. I made lots of her blocks from her see your stash series.
Hi there! When will the see along begin?
September 1st 💕
Always love a new project! ,- can never have too many😊. Thiis is going to sound a stupid question, but what are the project boards for? Love your videos, thank you. ❤
Not a silly question at all. You can use them for all sorts, when you cut out any quilt blocks, you can lay them out on the boards so you don't forget the order. In this case you layer up the applique on the board so you get the positioning correct.
Thank you Rachel, v useful might have a go. Look forward to seeing your progress on this fab quilt😊
Did you clip the curved edges so they would lay smoother?
I did yeah 😀
I tried the hot glue method for design boards and just made a mess of It. I ended up using a no glue method and that worked so much better and quicker for me. I have a video on my channel if you’re interested in seeing a different method. I kept saying that I’ll never use a design board but I find myself reaching for one quite often.
I really like the interfacing appliqué method. It did take me a little bit of practice but doesn’t everything?
I’m looking forward to following your progress on the quilt along.
I'll check your videos out, thank you!
Hi Rachel, could you tell us about the houses in the background? Im sure you must have , but i am new...thanks
Welcome to the channel. Of course, the house pattern is by JitkaDesign on etsy, houses and trees sold separately and they are an FPP pattern 💕
Reverse applique is where you cut out a whole in your front fabric, sew the edge back and work behind 🙂
Ooooh wrong terminology then
@@stitchwithrachel I only found it out yesterday 😆
Hi Rachel, me again 😊 have you decided which house you will be starting with? I would like to prepare my fabrics as there are so many different colours & patterns and it would help me allocate some of my fabrics. Thank you ❤
Hi Janet, 😃 I'm going to be going in the same order as Lori did, so starting with the flag house 💕
How much is the template set?
I want to prepare my interfacing pieces for the Sept block today. Are you following the script that Lori Holt did and begin with the Flag House block?
@katscribner792 yeah im going to go in the same order, just one a month instead 💕
@@stitchwithrachel Thanks. I have so many projects working, one a month works better for me too. Just enough to keep me committed.
I can't find the free download for the house pattern
I would love to get fabric from MSQC, but the shipping costs to UK are very expensive. You need to spend a few hundred £ pounds to make it worthwhile.
Thank you
Could I ask if you had to pay import duty on the Missouri Star products as I have had this issue in the pasr?
As they "gift" me the products they mark it as a gift and you don't pay vat on gifts however I don't think you pay vat on items less than £139 coming into the country but double check on the government website x
It just so happens there is a machine embroidery design pattern available.❤
I saw that, looks brilliant!
Hi rachel how much is postage from missouri star to uk? X
♥️♥️♥️
Do you have a knitting needle that would make a good point turner?
I do! What a good idea... sounds like a good thing to keep in my sewing bag aswell
Hi Rachel, want to join your Hometown sew along. I’ve bought the material but i’m struggling to find the templates in the Uk. Can anyone help please?❤
Have you started the Home Town sew along? I thought it was the 1st Sep but I don’t see a video 😢
The 20% link isn't working for me. Is it still valid?
@@LovelyCrane. unfortunately for the month of September it isn't valid as Missouri are running so many sales
Thanks Rachel ❤
