      TheStraightPipes wouldn't you agree that a car with the exterior of the forte 5 SX and the interior of this would be like, THE perfect hatchback in terms of design? driving dynamics of the GTi combined with those would create the ULTIMATE hatch back in my opinion 😍😍

    • @d.rashadray8119
      @d.rashadray8119 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say that this is the best overall value in its class of hatchbacks. Some may argue Golf TSI, Civic sport or Mazda 3. And while all of those may handle better the Elantra GT Sport is the best value in my opinion.

      Guys, i think the arrow on pump means how much kilometers to the end of the tank, to go to a gas pump. Btw, i love your videos, i'm from Brazil and theres no one like you guys. Great job!!

      Hyundai is slowly starting to creep up on my radar. This car along with the N30 are really exciting. I cannot wait to see Hyundai bring back a RWD sports coupe.

    The chemistry between you two are mega! I always have a smile on my face when I watch your videos. I love that you talk so much about the design of the cars, especially their lights (my favorite parts of a car). I'm not a geek (at all!) when it comes to driving or the technical stuff, but the way you talk makes sense for my ears. I've actually learnt a bit from you.
    Keep it up, and stay as passionate as you are now. It really shines through that you love cars. And each other. Oh, btw: the quality of the footage and editing are top notch!
    Kind regards, a simple man from the middle of Sweden.

    Bought my '18 Elantra GT Sport in December, and I couldn't be happier. Fun and super affordable. What other vehicles on the market under $30k come with a pano moonroof, ventilated & heated seats. a wireless charge pad, and an engine/handling/suspension this well tuned and a blast to drive? It's an absolute steal of a car.

    • @gs98999
      @gs98999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nathan Chase the only thing that doesn't work well with the Elantra gt is leasing. That's where you can get much more powerful cars for less money. It doesn't matter if you pay cash/finance. But if you're someone who changes cars often and lease, they lease very poorly.

    • @SeanLazer
      @SeanLazer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If Hyundai keeps going the way they're going they'll start to see better resale and that'll change. But for right now you're absolutely right.

    • @NathanChase

      I got mine for 16% under MSRP. Leased pretty well for me - less than $10 a day.

    I love Yuri's perspective, focusing on the "daily driving" aspects of a car. If you have *one* car the performance aspects are nice but ultimately the quality of life features are what make the car in the long run. So don't you dare stop ranting about that radio Yuri !
    Also hyped for that Veloster N, the styling seems like a perfect middle ground between the kinda boring GTI and the over-styled Type R.

    Yuri, do what I do. Whenever I see a song I forgot about, I add it to Apple Music or Spotify and over time of doing that, you’ll have a lot of music and you can just hit shuffle and it’ll go through all your songs. It won’t get boring like that since you’ll have so many songs in your library.

  • @wademagnussen

    I have the 2018 sport. But I have did some mods and it’s ridiculous fast. It eats Golf GTI, Civic SI and WRX easily. I have added Takeda performance exhaust, a piggyback 4 stage tuner and KnN cold air intake. I will be putting it on a Dyno to see exactly what it pushes now but I would say conservative estimate would be 275-280 hp. Basically it’s a Voloster N in a Elantra Sport body. I had to put Track tires on it because I couldn’t get off the line with stock tires. It would just smoke the tires through the first 3 gears. It is a 6 speed manual by the way. You guys would love this car. I’m in Winnipeg so if your ever here you should come take it for a rip

  • @Nouvellecosse

    It looks amazing. One of the best looking cars Hyundai has produced imo. Although it should NOT have a front license plate. Are they mandatory in Ont? Because some places - like here - you can just have a rear plate

    I actually like the lock button placement. Allows you to unlock the doors and put hazards on at the same time, without having to use both hands. In most cars you have to press the hazard with the right, then the unlock with the left. Makes that easier. E46's for example have both buttons next to each other which makes dropping people off really convenient.

  • @harrismi7

    It seems like a nice car with a lot of features: heated seats & wheel, pano roof, infotainment system, etc. But the outside is plain, there is not much to make it stand out from the crowd or make it different from the base model.

      I think that's a good thing.
      Especially when it's compared to the hideous new Civic. Honda did a great job mechanically on those cars, but good god they're ugly. This is classy and refined, it's a car that an adult won't be embarrassed to drive.

    I love what hyundai and kia are doing these days and im a big fan of the elantra sport, but i feel like the infotainment in the elentra sport is so much better looking than this when it's essentially the same car just in a different body style

    COME ON 100k!!
    I was going to request this car in the last video, but turns out, I didn't have to! 90% sure this is going to be my next car. I think the outside is really classy looking, but you guys were right, it doesn't have an aggressive look. Better for avoiding tickets. The inside is absolutely perfect IMO, but I wish the US got the red seat belts. It's funny you guys said, "If you can't afford a GTI, buy this car!" That is literally my situation. I'm 10% leaning on a Civic Si because I've heard from many that the shifter feel is pretty much perfect in the Si. I'll probably test drive both, but this one is winning atm. On this car, I'm torn between the blue and the gray color. I like the blue, but the gray has a nice metallic flake in the paint that I like. Gray also fits with the classy looking outside a bit better. Guess I'll have to wait to see the two colors in person. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! MADE MY DAY! Also feel like WAY more effort is being put into the interior shots. Looks fantastic!

    My wife and I bought one over a year ago and we're quite happy. We got the dual clutch auto, and it does a great job. I grew up driving rear drive manuals and I've yet to find a front wheel drive manual with good clutch feel and tight shifting. It's been a great car to live with, easy commuter and fun when you want, and 10k cheaper than we could find a GTI. I like the look, I don't need spoilers on my car. Infotainment works well, sunroof is awesome, and nothing compares equipment level at this price. Only complaint is fuel mileage, it should be better, but then our other vehicle is a 2015 Ram 1500 with the Hemi so;)
    Over all if you're looking for a sporty hatchback you should take one for a test drive.

    Exactly! In order to get all the GT Sport's features in a GTI you'd have to get an Autobahn. That's an MSRP about $10,000 more. I got a used 2018 Sport with the Tech Pkg and saved even more! Very happy with the way it drives and it's got all the power I need and 30 mpg avg.

    Yuri, do what I do. Whenever I see a song o forgot about, I add it to Apple Music or Spotify and over time of doing that, you’ll have a lot of music and you can just hit shuffle and it’ll go through all your songs. It won’t get boring like that since you’ll have so many songs in your library

    More buttons and knobs!!! I'm with ya on that. The single lock/unlock button is central locking. The Focus had that until North American market hated it, so they change it fast. But this is what was originally meant with the central locking term, one lock/unlock button located centrally. I wish the exterior handles had the welcome lights like the other elantra's do, or puddle lamps and power folding mirrors like Kia does.

    I bought this car about a couple months ago, I agree on the rims, just unappealing as heck. BUT, I had a gloss black powder coat applied to the rims and it looks a lot more aggressive from just a simple ~$200-$300 modification. When I was shopping I was really tempted to go with the auto 7spd because it came with ventilated seats to combat the ol' swamp ass, but I had to go with a manual; too much fun. Really good review as always fellas, but I believe you overlooked how good this cars suspension is and how much fun you can have throwing it round corners or on highway on/off ramps. Keep up the great content guys, looking forward to the veloster n video.

    That's a great point about Hyundai and needing to wait until it's warm for boost. I had a Genesis Coupe and a Veloster, and it was the same there too. That 10 year/100,000 mile warranty (US) doesn't come without consequences

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same on my VT. To me, it's less of a consequence than thrashing a cold engine - and you know there's people out there that will do exactly that, then complain about the car's reliability. :-)

    Albert Biermann in a recent interview revealed that they will have an NSport model that will sit above the GT Sport... although no engine upgrade, or suspension upgrades it will be tuned to perform better along with some possible N performance styling bits. Hopefully we can purchase N parts from the dealer in the future.

    By the way, what I like about it is precisely its understated look. It's just missing the "tell", something like the red stripe in the GTI that tells you it's a sports hatch. Like someone gentle and well mannered but with cauliflower ears, you know he can beat the crap out of you if he wanted. I don't think a 200 hp car should look too flashy, you know, like "top ten cars that look faster than they are" thing.

    The heated steering wheels in Hyundai vehicles (though not Kia or Genesis) is only in Canada and not the US. The US gets ventilated seats instead in the identical packages. Both have heated seats. The assumption was that most of the US is a heck of a lot hotter than Canada.

    Good vid! I almost bought this over my 2017 Si, and this video definitely reminds me of all the things I preferred on the Elantra GT, but the Si won out for me on a few areas:
    1. Front seats in the Si are way more comfortable, and living in Southern Ontario cloth beats leather since leather is almost always too hot or too cold when you get in the car.
    2. Resale value. I could save a couple thousand up front on the GT but I expect to make that back when I sell down the road. Lower km ten year old Si's are still going for ~$10k on Kijiji.
    3. Aftermarket support and community. I'm not going to mod it like crazy but for the few things I may want to do there's already a decent scene developing, especially since the 10th gen civic in general has sold so well.
    4. Looks. Yes the new Si looks ridiculous, but I like that. The stock wheels on the Si are also way better than the Hyundai.
    5. Gearbox. I found the shifter on the Si way more engaging and satisfying.
    6. Handling. With sport mode the Si is an absolute blast to drive.
    Anyone shopping for a fun FWD car should definitely test drive a GT sport though, everyone's needs are different and I can totally see picking this car over the Si. I definitely wish I had a hatch sometimes, and the infotainment in the civic is pretty atrocious (although the volume button on the steering takes about one day to get used to.) I know you guys have already done a few 10th gen civic vids but it'd be great to see a full Civic Si video.

I just wish Hyundai/Kia stand by their products more, there has been many complaints of warranty issues.

    Could never go with this model, knowing that the I30N exists. Its a fun warm hatch but is rather plain looking, yet does actually look a bit better in person in my opinion. Yuri, you are a bit obsessed with being able to rewind satellite radio. Before hearing your explanation of that feature, I couldnt understand why it was so important; but now I see what you mean. I hope my next car can do that, and I also hope it passes the visor test.

      Now I'm interested in googling Plymouth Prowler. Ya, I think I understand the satt radio thing now. Honestly, I think thats very similar to my car/audio "obsession", which is a CD player. I know CD players are old school at this point, and many cars have phased that out, but I still like having one in my vehicle. I think a cool satellite radio feature that could sort of merge both things, would be to have the ability to save a song from satt radio to a playlist. For all I know, maybe this functionality is already present. I defer to Y & J for all infotainment issues. You guys really get into that part of the car in great detail at this point.

    I enjoy the reviews but I do have some feedback. When reviewing the sportier trims of cars, such as this one, let us know what components have been upgraded (bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, LSD, etc.) over the regular model. It helps for comparing against similar cars. For example: Honda didn't make an Si hatchback, but made a hatchback Sport model. However the Sport hatch doesn't come with the LSD and suspension that the Si gets, not to mention the same power/torque output.
    Keep up the great work! Those rolling shots on Lakeshore look great!

    You're right you have to warm up the turbo 1.6 TDI to get full performance. It's also a noisy engine until you break it in. The exhaust notes are awesome. They got this motor in my Elantra Sport dialed in. I got Elantra GT's wanting to race. Many notches carved into my steering wheel from such :)

    Not sure if someone has said it, but I think the "top" gas icon is for how much gas (range) you have left "to go", which is why the arrow always points to the right. The gas gauge arrow is the tank side indicator. Just my theory. Surely someone with more knowledge will set me straight in the comments.

    Great video! I am confused between the Elantra GT and the Accord Sport. While I want a hot hatch, the Elantra GT's looks just don't do it for me (the front looks like its already due for a facelift) but the 201hp engine on a hatch as light as the GT is definitely tempting. The Accord looks fantastic. Its got a 1.5 turbo with 192hp and 192lb-ft of torque just in a heavier car. I am inclined towards the Accord for now but will a CVT really give me the driving pleasure I am looking for? Not sure!
