Stay safe, Katrin!! My niece and her husband had 8 inches of water in their Tampa home with minimal damage, but who knows what Milton will bring. Fortunately, their flood insurance will cover it. They are hunkering down at a relative's 5th floor condo in a brand-new hurricane proof building in Sarasota away from the danger zones areas. I am afraid my lovely snowbird community of Gulfport in Pinellas County is going to be absolutely destroyed. 😢😢😢😩 This storm is an absolute beast, and I hope everyone evacuates and stays safe!!!

We're wishing a best possible outcome for you & Sarasota, Katrin. Old Florida Maxim: Hide from wind but run from water. Glad to see you doing the sensible thing. Florida's DEM took over control of Babcock Ranch's field house on Monday for shelter service, which shows how proactive & serious the officials here are taking Milton. Best of wishes to you.

The hurricane itself doesn’t scare me as I am 30 miles inland. It’s the tornadoes Milton could possibly spawn that nearly destroyed my entire county during Charlie then Ian just sat on top of us and pounded us with rain for what seemed like eternity and landlocked our county entirely. I’m not looking forward to a 3rd direct hit from a major hurricane and the cleanup that follows without power for days or weeks.

Put mostly single floor slab houses in low elevation areas near the water, what could possibly go wrong?
Code should require that new houses be elevated at least a few feet.

It doesn't matter what Cat. Milton is when it hits shore. It's already pushed massive amounts of water towards Florida's southern west coast.

Right.. and folks are gonna stop OVERPAYING. for these overpriced flood zone homes....folks are gonna stop moving here at high numbers...a lot of the suckers who bought in the past few years are gonna leave... insurance rates are gonna go through the roof...housing demand is gonna drop. And a lot of real estate agents are gonna have to get a real job. ... :)
