    Fun fact, the body of the ME262 jet fighter was manufactured in my primary school.
    That's not a joke, the building has since been replaced, but when i was in school we were still in that old half run down building that was the exact place the planes were built.
    It was a concentration camp which was partially destroyed, and when the war ended the refugees needed a place to stay, so they never demolished the still standing buildings. Eventually it was turned into a school, and in the 2000s it was still standing.

    4:23 Actually incendiary bullets did not do anything either, because fires can not start in a 100 fuel environment.
    It was explosive rounds that could shred large areas of the zeppelin, which allowed oxygen to get in, and in turn allow fires.

    • @William_wall
      @William_wall 2 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      I was wondering surely zein would be useless and all bullets would be able to shoot down the zeppelin easily but this makes much more sense.

However, videos on those topics would be exceptionally long considering the number of different ship types in navies and that they've existed for a much longer time than uniforms, tanks, and aircraft. It could work better if focused on one ship type (frigates, destroyers, cruisers etc.) per video, or only including vessels from the 19th century until today.

    5:07 Germany was prohibited by the treaty of Versailles to even comission any military planes. The Weimar Republic had a tech cooperation treaty with the equally shunned Soviet Union to at least somewhat keep up with developments and when the Nazis took power they started a covert rearmament programme right off the bat, commissioning the Heinkel He-51 biplane in 1934 (like many planes of the early 30s pretty much still a WW1 design with 1930s Tech Level) which was quickly replaced by the much more advanced Messerschmitt Bf-109.
    So it's not true to say Germany modernized its WW1 air forces to the BF-109. Its WW1 Air forces were entirely demobilized, decommissioned and mostly destroyed in 1919.

      Kinda wish he'd showed the planes the BF 109 competed against, would make for a more in-depth look into designs that the Luftwaffe were looking for then as well. What we got was good, but just a little bit more would've been nice

    • @Genius_at_Work
      @Genius_at_Work 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Versailles Treaty banned Germany from having anything Aviation-related. Every single Airplane Engine had to be destroyed. If it wasn't for England and America taming France, the Versailles Treaty would even have banned anything industrious, returning Germany to the 18th Century.

    9:08 the Fw-190D’s engine was still supercharged like the 190A but used a more powerful three-speed two-stage supercharger, and the later Ta-152 would use this in addition to an intercooler. In addition to this new setup the 190D’s true key to high-altitude success was the use of Methanol-Water injection.

    • @ryanjonathanmartin3933

      Not all Doras used three-speed superchargers. The D-9, the most produced sub-variant, used a two-speed supercharged Jumo 213A. There were other versions of the Dora such as the D-11 that used a three-speed supercharged Junkers Jumo 213F. The D-12 was similar to the D-11 mechanically but used a much lighter armament selection. The D-13 used the Jumo 213E which was basically a 213F with an intercooler (many German aircraft engines lacked an intercooler at the time so this was considered an innovation). The 213E was also, notably, used on the Ta 152H.

    The problem of the Zeppelins was mostly that Germany didn't have access to enough Helium and had to fill them with Hydrogen instead. Which is a tad bit flammable.
    As the production of Helium was seen as a military relevant technology other countries withheld it from Germany which can be said to be a reason why the Hindenburg accident happened.
    BTW the "th" in Gotha is different from English. It basically indicates a slightly longer "a" after it. You also have serious problems with the Umlauts but that's difficult to explain. You did rather well on most other German pronounciations. I was surprised how well you pronounced Ulrich. That "ch" is usually a big tripping stone. With the "Storch" you made the commoin mistake with the "st". In German it's (usually) pronounced like "sht" the "st" like in "shield".
    I'm a bit sad that you skipped the Horten Ho 229 and Me-163.
    BTW the BF stands for Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (Bavarian aeroplane factories). They morphed into Messerschmitt AG on 11. Juli 1938.

    Just a quick comment on the F-104, as well. The plane was designed to be a fighter interceptor. The Luftwaffe wanted to use it as a multirole plane, and almost all crashes were the result of training for low-altitude attack runs. You see, the plane was not designed for ground attack and as a result, was not very good at it. Additionally, it had an ejection system that fired downwards. At high altitudes, where fighter-interceptors dominate the skies, this isn't a problem. In an anti-armour and CAS role often operating below 5000ft, it is a bit of an issue.
    In short, this was not a fault with the plane, but a fault with its operator.

    one overlooked reasons for the late arival of the 262 was not puting bombs on it like A.H. requested but converting it from original Taildrager to nose wheel landing gear while also keeping the 4 Cannons. He 162 was only a let down because the glue used for the wooden frames started delaminating.
