Dragon Ball Z: "Goku's Spirit Bomb" - Rakeem's Re-Make

  • Ok I know what I said. This one was never on the list but I got inspired randomly and decided I should at least try it out. This one (as was the case with "Goku Vs Jeice and Burter") was more of a "see if you can do it" re-make. You guys be the judge of this one. I think the original track is perfect and there's nothing really that I would have done differently but I added some of the Rakeem sprinkles which should make some of you happy.
    The original track was written by Mike Smith for the scene in which Goku first starts gathering energy to make the Spirit Bomb attack. I've been asked about doing this one multiple times and although I said it wasn't on my list, I don't think I ever said no to the track. If I did, I'm a hypocrite and I'm sorry lol. I opted to just do part 1 for now as the length of the track was always a factor in whether or not I would add it to my list.
    The original plays many many times throughout the run of the show but it's one of those tracks that everybody loves. It never felt overused to me. It's just such an awesome track! When I do re-makes of these tracks, I'm always blown away by how much actually went in to scoring for the show. The layers and ideas are incredible! REALLY! So once again, I thank my childhood musical heroes Mike Smith, Scott Morgan, and Julius Dobos for putting their hearts and souls into this amazing music!
    Well here's "Goku's Spirit Bomb"
    -Credit for the INCREDIBLE original track goes to the amazing Mike Smith!
    - Thumbnail was created by me but Marcelo Zuniga let me use an old cutout of Goku he had! Thank you bro for all of your help on most of these! Can't thank you enough!

    -Track was made from scratch by me!
    -Yes, I take requests (but not all of them are feasible)!

      Your version was amazing and I really have to hand it to you 'cause you did both parts in one like the CD! I was unwilling to let my version get past 7 minutes 😂
      I have a request for you! It's my favorite track in the show and there's a huge lack of covers of it and I know you'd make an incredible version of it and it would be my favorite cover of yours: "Closing Music"!!

    3:33 always brings me feelings of melancholy until the hero part plays at 4:17. You nailed it and exceeded the original in a way, excellent work Rakeem! I especially love the dry AngryTime/ZooLead sound without the 9050.

    What a beast of a Re-Mix!! 💯
    I mean it, 7 minutes of legendary music. Personally, in the long run of the show, 0:38 has always been my favorite section, just from the emotions and feeling I get from it used so many times so effectively.
    But then again, for me there's nothing that will ever hit quite like 03:34. It's pure beauty. That part would almost bring tears to my eyes as a kid. Funny what music can do.
    I also never realized in my brain how big of a role _Angry Time_ guitar plays in during the "action" sections. Never noticed it at all actually until now, it just reminds me of "Goku's Second Coming" now because of that. ❤

      "Hyperbolic Time Chamber" is on the list for down the line.

    Another one of my favourites graced with a Rakeem remake :) .. It’s funny listening to your remakes helps me identify specific sounds easier for some reason. Example here being the guitar and now I’m like of course it’s that synth/sound weird how the brain works. Good stuff keep it up man 👍

    • @RakeemsReMakes
      @RakeemsReMakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sometimes all it takes is a different mix. It's happened to me plenty of times. Mixing is something you simply cannot copy so you always have to think in terms of how you want your mix to sound. In these re-makes, the different mixes also help to make the tracks sound unique in a different way.
      Going back to sounds, what always helps me is thinking of what other tracks I've heard a particular sound in. The most difficult ones are the ones that don't appear as much. Once you hear them enough, it becomes second nature to distinguish them. Even so, there are hundreds/maybe even thousands of sounds.

    • @Matjestix
      @Matjestix 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah you are right the mix does make all the difference. I think your remakes are more cleaner/dryer/less processed than the originals are while still remaining true to the original. Not saying one is better or worse than the other but usually yours is more purposeful for lack of a better word (hard to explain) The best comparison is your Frieza vs Spirit Bomb 2 as the CD score version of has a lot going on with subtle especially elements in the later parts of the track which you omitted. You bring the drums up in your version as they were quite buried in the original and less reverb overall.
      I’m happy that I’m at the point where I know what the main sounds are by ear and it is just a matter of the more you use them the easier it is. It’s the sounds where you go through all the patches on the synths and I can’t find the sound and I just sit there like huh.. It’s also why I enjoyed your guys track breakdowns. Not that I need the exact sound really and granted I don’t have a Kurzweil K2500 but it’s not used all that often in comparison to the QS6 and S7XX. I also only have the Roland sample CD “soundfonts” and I’ve noticed especially with some of the drums you won’t get and exact match. I assume sometimes they put the sounds through the zoom9050 too but man that thing doesn’t half make some horrid noises and isn’t the most intuitive thing to reverse engineer outside of afterburner preset 😂

      @@RakeemsReMakes Oh also wanted to ask if "Trunks Story" is on the list? Been listening to that a bit lately and thought you could do well with it!

    • @RakeemsReMakes
      @RakeemsReMakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Matjestix Yeah, for the first point, I know exactly what you're talking about. Although I purposefully make my mixes clean, I usually simply could not hear everything in the original (which may leave some open space that was filled up in the original). So I compensate for what I couldn't catch by putting something else there or raising the presence of something I know is there. The process for doing these re-makes is way more intricate than most people think. Sound selection can take up more time than making a track itself.
      You have to be willing to sit there testing things out for hours, days, weeks sometimes. In the beginning, it was an absolute grueling struggle. The more the score is familiarized, the more you start connecting sounds to tracks and then it becomes this spider web of sound. I went extremely deep into it and I'm just happy I did a lot of that hard work in the beginning.
      The Zoom with soundfonts is something I struggle with to this day. However, it's no longer a problem for me as I hardly use soundfonts at all for this stuff anymore. There are soundfonts that I had in my arsenal before collecting that I like to throw in to many of the re-makes and my own tracks but they would never need to be Zoomed.
