BMWs are just so superior when it comes to driving, it's incredible. Longitudinal RWD-based architecture, twin-turbo inline-6 base and a twin-turbo V8 as an upgrade and the way these things are done individually and then combined is just so immaculate. I wish Lexus was like this but they just sell FWD crossovers now. Clearly a lower brand.
@@borghorsa1902 I wrote this comment only comparing BMW to Lexus but Mercedes is a different story. I would still take this BMW over that Mercedes though and for one reason only: 4.4L S68 twin-turbo V8. The Mercedes only has an inline-6 and in today's world where V8s are being discontinued all over the place I feel especially compelled to buy the car with one. I'd ALWAYS go for more cylinders. I just found out that in the US Mercedes sells a GLE 580. It has MORE power (510 hp vs 429 hp) than the 53 and costs LESS ($86,7k vs $89,8k). I'd always go for that. I'd also pick it over the BMW. It's not availabe as a coupe though. If it had to be the coupe I'd get the 63 S. The 53 is awesome I'm sure but to me somewhat superficial.

Not for the middle class buyer. Take it for a test drive then buy one used. Huge depreciation on this model and scary maintenance costs after warranty expires like all BMW’s.

You get an on track experience to see the car’s capabilities. Professional drivers offer tips that drivers can use in the street to be safer. The BMWCCA has drivers school events all over the country if you get addicted to the speed. It’s a really nice experience
Two questions: 1. Was it loud inside the cabin due to having the monster V8 engine? 2. The black “22 inch wheels on this model are gorgeous, but I read that they are not good for ride quality and might cause damage to the suspension over time, thoughts? Thanks
FWIW, I have the six with the 22-inch wheels and Continental tires. It weighs a few hundred pounds less than the 8 cylinder, I suspect. I also live in SW Florida so we don’t have many potholes. I think the ride is fine, noise not a big deal, and they sure look great. But, no doubt, there is going to be at least some trade-off with ride and noise.
