- Continuing our hunt for fall colours we head to Nikko, a small town in the mountains north of Tokyo known for its striking autumn foliage. After spending a day exploring central Nikko we head up to Yumoto Onsen to wander the Senjogahara Marshlands.

Most beautiful! Do you think mid-late October is a good time to visit this year for the autumn colors?
Nikko essentially has two windows for Autumn colours. The northern alpine area gets some of the first autumn colours in Japan. I think they start changing at the end of September or early October.
The colours don't change in the town of Nikko until at least a month later in November
@@ChrisandDanya Ty that helps a lot as it's my first trip to Japan, do you think a rental car is worth it or is everything quite accessible via public transport?
@torstenrichertz Japan is very easy to travel via bus, trains and walking! Never driven a car in the 2 months we've been there. However if you prefer to have more flexibility and not rely on public transit, then it would be a good option! I've heard driving in Japan is pretty easy
@@ChrisandDanya Thank you again, I think public transit will work just fine :)
Yep Japan is beautiful during spring and autumn season.
Would love to visit in Spring! We've done Winter and Autumn so far
@@ChrisandDanya you should, 😄because that is when the cherry blossom bloom
As soon as the borders open
Views are amazing. How many days did you stay? Or was it a one day trip?
Such a beautiful place. Wish we could have come earlier and seen all the autumn leaves up near Yumoto Onsen; it would have been stunning.
I believe we were there for 3 days and 2 nights. Caught the early morning train there on the first day and caught the evening train on the last day
Great autumn colors, visuals and good mood music to match. Well done again!
Thanks 😊 gotta go chasing fall colours in Canada next!
5:55 nice

Beautiful video. We’re planning to visit Japan mid October to November 1. I hope we get to see the fall colors if we head north. I read it doesn’t peak until mid to late November in the kyoto area What month did you guys go any advice where to go?
Japan tourism just released their Koyo forecast for this year and it looks like they believe the leaves are changing later this year. Usually you get Autumn leaves in northern Nikko in mid-late October, but it looks to be mid-late November this year 😬. I would still check around Yumoto Onsen as it's elevation is quite higher and generally changes colour earlier than most.
For Kyoto, we were there in mid-November when it peaked for us. It seems to be late November/early December this year. Don't get discouraged though as this could change!
@@ChrisandDanyahai this video taken on what date? I will go to nikko on 14 nov, is taht good at chuzenji?
@hayuridiary8410 This would have been filled in early November but a few years ago.
it's very hard to say if mid November will be good for Chuzenji, as the autumn leaves change at different times every year. Based on the report for this year it looks like they are changing quite a bit later then normal, so mid November could be good. North Nikko generally is one of the first places to change colour in Japan since the elevation is much higher
@@ChrisandDanya thank you 😇
@hayuridiary8410 no worries! Let us know if you have any other questions
a very nice video to end my day with
Thanks for the kind words 😊 and glad it added some colour to your day 🍁
Great video!
Thank you! 🙏
which month was this? we are going to Japan in october
We were in Nikko in early-mid November. The autumn colours further up in elevation like Yumoto Onsen, start changing in early October, then start decending towards Nikko town. They usually reach Lake Chuzenji in mid October and finally reach Nikko in early November. We would have loved to see the autumn colours around Yumoto Onsen in October
