HUGE thank you to everyone sharing their videos to be roasted!
Also thank you for letting me have fun with this one. Of course I’m planning to do more roast-style videos from different angles to be as helpful as possible in the future. You’re doing great work!
Love the roasting!!
Hey Nate roast me please 🙏🏾 lol 😂
When is the next channel roast? I also want my channel to be roasted 😭
Faceless channels next?
Nate you should wear a mask when making these videos and make it a weekly thing also I mean doing one of these videos
Make a poll on different mask designs and wear that mask
I'm thinking Kane style mask but get some designs done that you like and do a poll on 3 or 4 of those masks wear the one that's the winner in these videos also we need smoke in the background for these videos with darker colours just overall different setting
Maybe even some neon lights with broken effects like broken TH-cam logo or neon sign with down arro that flickers like it's broken
Do your intro with your normal self and let it transition into the alter ego Nate roasting when I mean normal self your regular set and that and when it transition into the roast set
Ha! My husband physically started to walk away at the fake outro. Excellent illustration for me of a great point.
Haha 😅 glad to hear it worked so well
I checked the time as I thought the video was longer, I was getting ready to leave 😅
I think a good reason for that too is that a lot of times are TH-cam is set up to play the next to the automatically and if we don't decide what we want to see next it does it for us.
When we know there's an outro coming, we quickly jump into deciding our next video instead.
Nate’s Team: Aka his wife here. Glad I could start learning to edit videos with this one 😂🎬 how’d it turn out?
Awesome edits, especially for your first try. Much better than any Nate has ever done.
@@matteugine haha! He definitely coached me, and did all the complex things. Credit goes mostly to him 😜 it’s a fun skill I’m enjoying learning!
Excellent. Totally pro edits. Tell your husband that I have 40-50 songs that he can use for outro intro music. Free of charge. I won't even ask him to roast me!
Nice work!🎉
One tip I use for folks using background music in the video is “subtractive EQ.” Put a vocal EQ setting on you voice audio and then put that same EQ setting on the music, BUTTTTT reverse all the settings. This creates a space for your vocals to sit so that they always stand out and the music better sits under that voice track. Hope this is helpful!
Very helpful, thx. I always eq my vo's but never tried to on the music ..will have to give that a shot as well.
VERY helpful...I never thought of it. I thought of using compassion to "duck" the music during words. But this is the other step, thanks!
You'll need a plugin that can do this, but if you want to go an extra step, you might even reduce the "center" of the stereo space in your background music, and maybe even widen it a bit. That way not only does your voice have its own space in the frequency spectrum but the stereo spectrum as well. I've found by combining the two you can bring the energy of the music up considerably without drowning out the clarity of what you're saying.
@@FramingTheNarrative That's a really good idea. I've never thought about that!
I do this🎉
Can we give these people a round of applause for their amazing courage, vulnerability as well as sense of humour? 👏👏👏👏👏👏
well, i present my channel to you, if you want to roast me?
Nate is the evidence that having the freedom of your own channel can definitely maximize your potential. Loving the new channel man
true that.
True that
GIVE THIS GUY A GOLD BUTTON ALREADY (not you wired, i mean nate)
I have learned enough from you over the years that I don't do "like, subscribe, comment, etc." but what I cannot keep myself from doing is saying "HELLO" at the beginning of the video! (I actually say "hi folks!") Maybe its just the nice midwesterner in me that HAS to welcome someone into a room. Maybe the solution is to script yourself saying hello....knowing that you are going to cut that out or move it a bit later in the video. So you can turn the camera on, say hello to get it out of your system, and still follow Nate's rules. :) Thanks for a great video!
Saying hello is alright......isn't it? It's not really a whole intro it's just a greeting.
I rewound the “Ha! You thought the video was over didn’t you?!” part like 20 times because it really caught me off guard! Another amazing video Nate! -P
I love your own channel so much! It is amazing how you manage to surprise, make laugh and give value with little editing. Thanks again :)
right
I definitely need to work on my intros and outros (or rather, work on not doing them), but one thing I do think I have been doing ok is my eye contact. I film without being able to see myself at all, so there is no temptation to be watching myself or straightening my hair etc, I’m just looking straight at the lens.
Outros are fire in metal detecting videos and coin roll hunting videos, because they do a wrap up of what they found, to me it's the most entertaining part of the video seeing all the treasure side by side
honestly that last outro that you were unable to roast was so damned good it should have 10x - 100x the amount of views it has
Omg that's so kind, thank you! 🤍 I would love any other commentary you would have on my video, if you mind taking the time ☺️
It is my first video ever, so it's exciting but also terrifying!
Great callout regarding the music volume when editing with headphones. Have had that happen too many times
Yeah whenever there's an "intro" chapter I'm just skipping it.
That thumbnail and title are so funny I involuntarily clicked! I am rethinking my outros for sure
Nate the comedian! Haha 🤣 this didn’t even feel like learning but rather a comedy show. I enjoyed it all the through, and yes I did learn too haha.
3:31 and it’s always this blasted track that is being used when the music is loud 💀💀💀
survey says: Entertaining, novel, informative, useful, calming... Check. And Submit. Thank you Nate for always bringing it up a notch.
Last line was epic 😄😄🫠- "This channel is not for everyone but this channel is for you."
Hahahaha true lol 😂
Howdy Nate! I lost track of you during your TH-cam transition, but I'm thrilled to have found your wisdom and adorable curly hair again. ✌️🤠
Nate, I recently discovered your TH-cam channel a few weeks ago and subscribed right away. And the reason? You are absolutely hilarious. I almost laugh out loud at your videos. Well, maybe I do do a bit of a chuckle. Thank you for making learning about TH-cam entertaining as well as informative.
Wishing you the very best of beginnings !
Dawn
This was some go old fashion Nate energy back, Gold for short! Nice job, educational as always! Cheers for sharing your experience, Stay safe, have fun! 👍👌👊✋
I've been flipping my screen away so I stop looking at it. Then it's really easy to focus on the lens. But then I filmed a short and my usually perfect sony cam focused on the background instead of me
Very helpful video but so fun too! 😂
Glad you enjoyed it 😂
I laughed at the thumbnail because I was guilty of it 😆 I am restarting my channel and I avoid it
Nate, I think this is my favorite video you’ve done so far. Kudos! 💙 You had me constantly guessing as to what would happen next.
I think that telling someone to subscribe is not gonna work, but I always forget to like the video until they remind me
the easiest way to overcome the looking at the screen rather than the lenses, if you have a camera, put the dame display away, once you frame your shot you dont need the screen, that forces you to look into the lens as there is nothing else to look at.
I love this video. It is one of the most helpful and funniest videos at the same time. Very informative, love it. Thank you very much Nate for this amazing video to teach content creators how to succeed in TH-cam. 😊👍
I was just thinking after watching this: This video feels a bit like a half time pep talk of a good coach who encourages his team to up their efforts in a motivating way. It feels like: Let's keep this talk short so that the team has more time to invest in their own preparations and plans. There is no benefit in a talk that goes on and on and on. Well balanced timing here!
Be yourself. There’s only one of you and that is what will make you unique. YOU GOT THIS!
this is why i follow nate, not because i need help on youtube
Getting to the content as fast as possible always works! No intro or 1 sentence intro that's it. Eye contact with camera is a must! Solid video Nate!
i love this format of just blunt feedback, i do this stuff when giving feedback to my friends and i love seeing this straight forwardness
Loved the self-roasting outro
LOL I was watching your video full screen and was about to press the "exit full screen" button at 4:15, before you rudely interrupted my exiting of your video. Made me laugh thought! You're doing amazing work Nate!
Over the years I found that being genuine goes a long way. I do occasionally ask people to like my videos at the end if I feel like it fits in, and other times I'll recommend a similar video and give a reason why they should watch it, and that seems to work incredibly well. Now, a lot of the time I just end my videos by wishing people a good day and I have a feeling that gets them press the like button more than asking them to press the like button...
It was confusing at first, because so many people talk about calls to action, but the implementation isn't as easy as just asking for people to do something. Especially asking someone to subscribe is kind of...intrusive. I want people to make that decision themselves.
you have motivated me. i never ask for likes as I think they are like begging. if viewer likes my video, they will let me know
LSC is not so important...
YT really likes channel's that keep viewers on the platform.
If it fits the narrative then that's ok... your explaining something and say "there's link is in the description" or "put your question in the comments" .. not announcing but in a conversational form.
People who point down to the description or comments (or buttons) seems demeaning.. as if I'm that stupid.
A channel that I occasionally watch got the 100k Playbutton..
To a question in the comments.. they replied that they have never begged for L&S
Maybe a little extreme..
Another big No...
Is muzak..
Particularly the repetitive ting ting...
I can think of several really good channels.. content and presentation..
That still have low views and LSC ..
When I raised the issue well over a year ago with one channel.. they said they liked it ..
(at least they responded..
Maybe the funniest video I‘ve seen so far from you. And full of worth information as always.
I believe our ability to grow is directly related to our ability to give and receive feedback.
Yes! Music you hear on an album or on a tv show - was mastered. This means it’s been calibrated to sound well on multiple devices!
For each of my videos, I set the music at what I think is the appropriate level. Then I export the video. THEN I send it to my phone. Then I play it on my phone. The music is always more quiet on my phone. So for me I usually go back to the computer and turn the volume UP.
Music is a very interesting thing. In fact sometimes when my music is too quiet, my video sounds LOUD. That’s because you have to turn the volume up high to hear everything. Which results in my vocals being way too loud. In fact by increasing the music volume, the viewer can listen to the video at a lower volume while having everything sound equal.
So don’t forget to test your audio and play it back! Music on albums has been MIXED and MASTERED.
Thank you, Nate, for all your help and amazing content!👍👍
One of your best videos, Nate! Really enjoyed the info and energy.
Thanks Nate for those reminders. Yes, I sometimes don't look right at the audience and my outros are well, an outro. I'll have to play around with that to see if it makes a difference! Thanks again!
One of the first topics I learned at Broadcasting school was camera to eye contact was VERY important. All your points err...roast were good examples of what NOT to do. Good video there Nate 🤠
❤I think I was actually first this time 😂
The video I submitted for you to roast is because i feel really confident about it and want the hard feed back. I know I need a better camera and I'm working on that, but without constructive criticism we don't know what we need to improve on
“Signature look of Disappointment” I’m dead. 😂😂😂😂
Thanks Nate for the roast and tips! So glad you saw the video!
...and make sure to hit that notification button so that you get notified immediately once I decide to post something!!!
ahh dang it I missed that one! lol
Thank you as always! I look forward to my free time to learn from from you and what you share! There is always more to learn!
Super aware of audio variance across different devices. It’s especially delicate with motorcycle content due to wind noise. Always listen to my final piece on various devices before publishing.
I felt there was only one real roast in this entire video, and then that particular roast then was absolutely savage. It's like you poured all of your roasting energy into one person🤣. The video had a ton of helpful advice still, and was super entertaining, but you pulled a few punches.
The micro roasting here makes me want to make more videos so that one day Nate has something to roast on my channel
yay!! Roast!! And you are Back To The Black Attack! You could have a weekly roast just to remind the community Who's The Boss (hint: not bruce springstein). Your humour is on point. Very practical and hopelessly fun.
Staring into the lens has been one of the hardest for me for sure, I do it a lot more now but still only like 60% or so.
Great roasts! It was brilliant how, after "failing" to find a roastable outro, you put one in your video!
Great info coming our way Nate... Lot of things to Learn and PRACTICE to make it more regular in my videos.
Great work as usual Nate (boop)
My pet peeve videos are when they start off saying how they’ve been away or it’s a long time since they last posted.
They then promised to post on a regular basis or that this is a new beginning.
Typically they don’t post much more and fade away.
Am I the only one thinking "oh darn I do that"? Another great video, thank you Nate that was really helpful!
Nate cleaning out all of the 2017 TH-cam standards :D
ahahaha that was good
4:19 That was a very clear example for me because I thought the video is about to end and I immediately started to scroll down to the comments because I generally go through the comments at the end of the video.
Thanks for your part in raising the standard of TH-cam vids and also showing us how to do that too.
Due to a TBI I cannot watch videos with dialogue and music in the background, especially if the music has lyrics. I don't bother watching tutorials of this type. I just find another video. I understand that music has a place, but there are too many who use it to mask problems with energy.
BTW, you are wonderful Nate. Thank you for helping all of us.
There's always something new to learn. Thanks Nate
The algorithm constantly throws you on my screen. This is the video that finally made me hit like AND subscribe. 🤣
"Evil Nate" is so much fun to watch!
Great stuff in this video, so many points I've written down and need to start applying in my videos! I'm guilty of a lot of these! Thanks so much for the great tips!
Love the subtle easter egg jokes Nate! Especially the text at the end!
You are too funny, Nate! Always love your advice too - still one of my go-to people to improve my channel!
I’ve learned a lot by watching you. I’ve been having hard time looking directly in the camera. Part of it is shyness and the other part is I got a new phone and the lens is different than my old phone. I’ll get it right on the next video!
That... was an awesome vid.
Feels like you are finding your Nate space again!!!!!
That was so funny! When you wound down for the-end-that-wasn't-the-end I minimized the screen and almost clicked away...we are so conditioned! All great points, all well delivered... what's not to love? 😘 👍 👏
clever, as soon as your outro voice came out, i instantly reached for my mouse to get ready to click away. Always good information here
Just watching this again, and your (non)outro is a work of genius :)
Great sharing😁💜
I’m giggling when you did the stare countdown😂😂
4:30 Omg you got me so bad here Nate. I was about to watch another video to watch as you said that then saw that the video isn't over yet! Also I love the energy in this video and thank you for the advices! You never fail to teach us valuable things to do as a content creator.
This is obviously my favourite youtube teaching video ever. Grateful to TH-cam's algorithm for leading me to this content and I want to say big thank you for this video. Since I start my TH-cam, always trying, learning, and sometimes difficult. This video like guide for me. I watch and think "Yes, yes, yes!", like I see my past and current mistakes more clearly and more precisely. This video very clear show problem and also tell good advice. For beginner like me, very helpful. I watch finish, feel like big energy come to me. Still not sure how to do everything right, but now I have more courage to keep going. Thank you TH-cam for show me your video at good time.
Nate you always make me smile! And sometimes laugh out loud. :) Thank you for great teachings.
I just realized I have the reverse problem with my headphones 😆 Music always sounds great in the headphones and than when I switch it to speakers I can barley hear it so I always fumble around with it... Thank you for addressing it, now I know I am not going crazy...
I switched cameras and had to learn AGAIN where the lens was and to FOCUS there cuz it’s easy up close to flub it.
This ... was a wild ride.
Full of value and good energy!!!
Was half expecting my channel to rock up in this
That was fun Nate😂 Loved the staring contest! I'm learning everyday🤙 Thanks😁
Yes! Intros are the best thing to fix these days.
I’ve been really working to improve mine.
I’m really starting to get a feel for what won’t work it feels.
Now I just need to figure out how to think about what to do right. 😜
Thanks for the tips Nate!
Great video, Nate! I learned to remove intros but you just reminded me that we can go to the YT Editor and trim out any sections even after publishing 🙏
Yes! I learned. Thank you, Nate! 🥰
Great tips! Especially the part about the "outro". Have to lead them into another adventure or wanting more.
great stuff, very insightful learning from the mistakes in these channels
That was really good. Enjoyed it immensely😉. Will keep in mind these tips, always love your roasting videos.
At the fake outro I was thinking how could this be over already!! I was enjoying the video so much! Great video, funny but with great points.
Not me not being able to do the staring contest with you, never looking at my camera, having an intro where I introduce myself and labeling it intro on my videos 🫣
Learned so much! Thank you.
I’ve been watching you for years and you are crushing it in this one.
Fan-tas-tic! Love this video Nate. Especially appreciate the music volume comments.
This is great, and thank you for it. One thing that makes me turn off a TH-camr faster than anything is rambling, on and on, endlessly, getting to the point five or six minutes into the video, being repetitive by saying the same thing over and over ... well, you get the point. When it's like that I will not like, comment, or subscribe.
Such a fan of the new channel and you mixing in more of your style. 🤙🏼
Ohh thank you for the compliment! Wasn’t expecting that. I thought it was over and then mine popped up and I got nervous lol.
As for outros.. Someone one day said that he wished I gave more of a conclusion to wrap up my videos. I get it, but sorry no. The data says that people don’t want a conclusion from me LOL. So I review the product and then just ask people to tell me what they think. Then end it. I’m super paranoid about retention. I’ll even delete a section if I don’t feel like the visuals are compelling enough.
Had the same about my outro popping up at the end! 😆 Not sure if the commentary on mine was as much as a compliment as yours or if i have pulled him into what sounds like a scam hahaha
Your energy is contagious! Keep up the "bonfire" and keep on roasting! 🖖
Thanks for sharing this! I know my videos are boring and I'm trying to get better. There's only so much excitement available when splitting firewood and repairing equipment. I have a lot to learn and videos like this one really help!
Thus is great! Thanks Nate!
Thanks for that! Will surely try those out
