    I've had my ROG since day one and I know the battery isn't perfect. But you can't compare a Switch to this cause it can play AAA games where the switch can't. People are complaining cause it has problems but unless you've used plenty of computer you won't understand. So people have to stop treating it like a game system and treat it like a Laptop that's smaller.

    • @joker6558
      @joker6558 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, but if it is just a laptop with a controller glued on, then it isn’t a game console experience like the SD which makes it not a true competitor for anybody who just wants to casually play pc games. For perspective my 8 year old can use the steam deck pretty easily

      That's why the ROG isn't for someone in elementary. They have to have knowledge of how to use computers. Before ROG came out they never said it was for kids. I've always liked laptops but they still weren't that portable. But when I saw the ROG it was the perfect size take everywhere. But I mostly have it connected so I never have battery problems and it runs everything from all my Retro games to Current. I was going to get the PS5 until I saw this and I still don't regret my choice.

      @@jasonaragon2766 I buy a device like this to play games and just that. I had a windows handheld and the experience was garbage. I spent more time troubleshooting the thing (because of windows) than actually playing games, and, I could never expect it to work if I took it to play some games during any down time. The SD is like the switch with its pick up and play usability whereas the Ally is a shitty version of a laptop with all of the best inputs necessary to operate it are sawed off and replaced by an Xbox controller.
      There is a high barrier to entry to these windows handhelds, and because of that it is always going to be a niche product in a niche market.

      Totally agree with you! It’s not a Switch, it’s a handheld gaming pc. My $3k Alienware X15 R1 laptop had issues with drivers, bugs, freezes, etc. all thanks to Windows. Does it make it a bad product? NO. This device unfortunately will not be exempt from having the typical Windows bugs too. Also it has to be treated like a gaming pc, meaning you have to play around with settings, updates, etc to get the best performance in gaming. Sadly most people don’t know that or don’t want to do it and start to hate the device for no reason. If it was an actual gaming laptop, nobody will say anything lol

    Thinking of buying one. I've a first gen MS Surface Go and a seven-going-on eight-year-old desktop PC mostly for gaming but now giving problems despite the addition of an RTX 3060ti GPU and a new 750-watt psu. Can't decide between a new desktop or the Ally. There is a lot of negativity growing around the Ally at the moment but it is early days yet and using Windows is both good and bad, as you pointed out. The lack of a model with greater storage capacity is very annoying. I know TH-cam is full of videos about how 'easy' it is although many of them admit to problems downloading and installing the operating system again. But it seems incredible that you have to do that. the exclusivity money companies get from consoles are the reason we have so many launchers now. they are too greedy to just all work together like before. like cod, blizzard, origin. they use to all be closer till console exclusives made them greedy.

    We still can't even GET the Steam Deck in Australia. Steam OS is all I would ever need cause all I'd want the handheld for is gaming.
    That said, it really needs to be updated with 8 cores so we can use all the heavy games in RCPS3 handheld mode.
    I hope if they do this that they include Australians next time. It was pretty offensive.
    The Ally is definitely a contender for me. I want a handheld for two things really, streaming my consoles or streaming Xbox cloud, and emulation. Ally could really emulate any system and the freesync screen makes it a unique option that isn't talked about enough. Basically, by having an adaptive sync screen, you can play all the retro consoles and arcade games 100% accurately because a lot of them were not precisely 60hz, heck old arcade games went into the 30's in some cases! Animations are missing, weird flashes etc when playing them on a modern non adaptive sync screen. That's why I have never found all those android and other windows handhelds especially useful for emulation of the 16 bit era and under, and particularly arcade games. Even the NES was 60.1hz and the only way to enjoy 100% perfect visual emulation is to have a screen that can do 60.1 hz. But things like Neo Geo which were ~59hz just shine with adaptive sync. Asus really did something unique there and they didn't do the stupid 1600P on a tiny handheld screen thing that the others are doing. I mean what's the point? The GPU will never drive games at those resolutions anyway so running 720P or 1080P on a native 1080P screen will always look better than a massive down sample from 1600P. Also I am HAPPY this is 16:9 cause we don't need 16:10 in a handheld.
    Couldn't you connect a usb keyboard for setup if the device was 100% charged therefore leaving the usb port free?
    Speaking of, that is the BIGGEST miss for me in this handheld and follows Asus' laptop ethos where they provide the very minimum USB ports possible. This has ONE Usb C port, total. That's ridiculous. So if you are playing it plugged into the wall, NO Usb ports since charger is using it. The only way is to get the ludicrously priced external GPU for it which has a USB hub.
    This is pretty much a deal breaker, I needed at least 1 free USB port. So that's why I WON'T buy one. I can't be without any ports and I don't understand in this day and age how Asus thinks people don't need USB ports. Deal killer.
    What I am waiting for is another brand to add an adaptive sync screen, like Aya, and if they do, I'll finally get a handheld. Until then, ROG got it close, but no cigar. Lack of ports makes it a nightmare to actually use, unless on battery power.
    My 2c.

      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you totally could add a keyboard and I could have even used a USB dock with PD but I stupidly in my excitement of receiving it took it home and set it up in my kitchen (all my cables and spare keyboards are in the studio, I really should leave a few spare bits at home!) but also, I am an experienced user, imagine the person that buys this coming from consoles or switch, they would have a nightmare. Lastly sorry to hear you never got the Deck in Australia! I didn't realise that and know how it feels as we often completely over looked for products in the UK too! (Still no Alienware x14 r2 here so I cannot do a review)

    The problem with the rog ally is that it was designed as a portable pc that can "act" like a console. You console guys are whipped. The rest of us that have been used to running windows since 95 on up work this thing like magic. It isn't for the faint of heart.
    Not the SD that is designed as a portable console. I was excited for the SD when it came out because steam said you could use it as a pc but they were wrong. Its more console.
    Asus did what others (china) have been trying to do. They made a smaller pc that we can game on without the big bags. If you cannot or refuse to provlem solve then you will whine about this.

    Your first issue…. Calling it a hand held console. It’s not a console it’s a pc and most of the frustration and issues I’m seeing is user error. People buying this expecting to just turn it on and go like you would a home console are in for a shock lol

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right it’s a full powered pc, but they packed it into a handheld device so it will naturally appeal to console players (which is a good thing, the more console gamers that get converted to pc gaming benefits us all). I expected these issues going in but watching all the hype videos, every one was selling it as the most exciting device since the creation of AI 😂

      I was afraid of this at the start, especially when my steam deck pre order got delayed (well, everyone's did at the time) I was even more worried it wasn't gonna work or it has problems.... but now a year later it's the best device I've ever used, I've played and completed so many triple a games on this it absolutely blew my mind. Learning Linux (coming from windows) was hard at first, but now that I've been using it, I prefer steam os over windows, I would put it on my main pc if it wasn't for compatability with certain anticheat... otherwise this is the best gaming purchase ive ever made.
