The song is basically an analogy between salvation and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”. Steve Cobucci describes it on Instagram as a metaphor of how he came to faith. It’s a beautiful and deep song, just like WATG’s entire collection. Thanks for doing this one!

I definitely think this is a reference to Plato. Plato thought the light was philosophy but we know now that the light is God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit

I wish I could like this twice. Wolves at the Gate is my all-time favorite band, largely because their music is so blatantly Christian. They're just using their talent to glorify God. I love that! They just released "Lowborn" as a Christmas track a week or so ago. I would give that a review as it is different from the style they have been going with for a while.

I’ve been very blessed to have spent an afternoon and evening with these guys. They are all amazing dudes who love Jesus like crazy😀 Surprisingly they were playing an acoustic concert with the band Disciple. Love you guys!

The best thing about WATG ever since I found the band close to 10 years ago is they have one consistent theme: No matter who, what, how you have come and become, you can come to Christ. As in this song, there are darkness but when you come to Christ, no one can ever forget that brilliant infinite that swallowed up the night.
Edit: You never mentioned that "someone" who mentioned how "Father's Bargain" is based on work by John Flavel is Steven Cobucci himself, the clean vocalist of WATG 🤣🤣

I love channels like this. As an atheist, this opens extremely positive discourse between our very different communities. And as far as I'm concerned, you're just a good dude. Granted most religious people are generally good people even if I don't agree with some things they believe. You use your platform in a positive way when compared to other religious youtubers, and I applaud you for that. This is a good way to reduce the amount of animosity felt between our groups, and this is a positive way to find a middle ground between us. Keep doing what you do and I'll keep enjoying your content.

I just heard Prayers For The Damned by Sixx AM and it is now one of the top songs on my playlist. I would love to hear your commentary on it since it definitely has a religious context.
Also for a bonus recommendation would love to hear your break down of the song As Above So Bellow by In This Moment - straight up demonic sounding song but it’s so different I keep coming back to listen to it
from one of your followers from the Netherlands: I would highly recommend the Band Narnia and their latest song A Crack in the Sky. These guys are there already for 25 years and legendary on stage. They belong to those rare metal missionaries and have great music and lyrics to share.
Still think you should check out Oh Sleeper. So many song choices. Hush Yael, Children of Fire, The Family Ruin, Fissure just to name a few.

You guys need to check out Panopticon! It is a folk black metal band with all instruments (including drums, acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, electric guitar, bass, vocals) performed by a guy named Austin Lunn. Think you would love it!

Have you guys done an A I Lay Dying song? They have so many great songs, one of my favorites being Overcome. The song came out around the time my younger brother passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer. The song really helped me to stay strong and push forward

Another fantastic reaction! If y'all are looking for more good songs to react to, I'd love to see what insight y'all would have to Atlantic by Sleep Token and Spiritual Healing by Death.
I'd love to see some reactions to some Project 86 songs. So many songs packed with great lyrics. Early work would include "Six Sirens" and "When Darkness Reigns", while more-recent work would include "Fall Goliath, Fall" or "Knives to the Future". There's lots in between as well! I think Project has been one of the most influential bands in Christian metal without really ever getting the recognition.
"Behold the Crown" or "Lost in the Static" by After the Burial (either will blow Pastor Rob's mind) and "Deceiver" or "Out of Control" by The Ghost Inside
WATG doesn’t disappoint.
I’d like to recommend a band I feel is criminally underrated: Hope For The Dying. I’m so torn on which song to suggest, though. They have a song called In Isolation that’s essentially that Footprints poem set to metal, but perhaps thats too easy to analyze given its popularity, even if the lyrics are their own version of it. Nacissus is a banger along with the track that it flows so nicely into, Nemesis (Jason Wisdom of Death Therapy does guest vocals on Nemesis). The Awakening is really good, but I feel it wouldn’t do it justice to not include the two other tracks that go with it, The Awakening: Dissimulation and The Awakening: The Veil Lifted. Without spanning multiple songs, one of my favorite songs lyrically is Orison. Transcend is so good musically and has a nice mix of clean vocals in it. I say if you’re willing to review 3 songs at once, The Awakening songs are my recommendation, otherwise maybe start with Transcend.

You guys should react to “Sirens” by Attalus. The Album, “Into the Sea” is a concept album meshing the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the journey of faith. It’s definitely an underrated gem. Also, the band is named after a Christian martyr.
Into the Sea is one of my all time fav records. It speaks to me on many levels and touches on a lot of my struggles/journey. I wish they kept making music
