    two months ago I would have felt bad for the WNBA. Since then they got a superstar that is able to fill stadiums, even cause them to move to larger stadiums, able to bring in millions, and they show their appreciation by treating her like a leper, benching her for trying to hard, not even getting off the bench when she gets hard fouled, nothing but hate is shown to Catlin Clark, and they will be hard pressed because of that to even get ANY more talent, the WNBA is signing their death warrant by the way they are treating a star, and they are proud of themselves. It's a league that will die and deserves it.

      The wnba, before this season (where viewership has rocketed to 1.3million), has a regular viewership higher than the NHL’s. Yet they are not paid the same as hockey players. That is media conglomerates don’t respect women’s leagues and don’t want to pay out the same as they do men’s leagues that perform the same. This is a huge reason for the pay gap, it’s not viewership, it’s discrimination)

There is hundreds if not thousands of journey men in international leagues who dont know which languange they will have to learn next year but somehow WNBA, who want to be treated equaly, want to be subsidized even more than they already are. No, people are NOT watching WNBA. Some games get some viewers. There is no huge TV deal with international rights.

    This is a prime example why it’s so hard for women to succeed. Clark brining eyes to the league and help give it popularity but women hating other women is a tale as old as time. Instead of coming together and using your numbers to help make the league grow so you can all get paid you would rather be jealous and tear things down and be dysfunctional

      Her contract doesn’t matter… brands want her in the WNBA to be the face of woman sports and will pay her hundreds of millions for it. She’s a good person, with good morals, a top 1% skilled player, and not a brand liability.
      If she takes the money she will look like a sell out and will no longer be marketable. Instead she becomes the face of woman’s sports, and gets compensated with PRIVATE sponsorships, not PUBLIC sports contracts.

In the entertainment business you should get paid based on how much money you bring in and in that case the WNBA players wouldn’t get paid at all. • @finkelmana
    @finkelmana 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Honestly, I understand where the WNBA player's jealousy of Caitlin Clark comes from. For almost 30 years, no one has given a crap about the WNBA. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a female college player becomes the absolute focus of the media and the public. Everyone knew who Caitlin was, everyone was cheering for her. People actually cared for a female basketball player - for once. All the women in the WNBA who worked just as hard, put in as much time and effort, who may of may not have as much talent as Caitlin seeing that would definitely spark jealousy. Caitlin did provide a massive viewership spike on TV and attendance in the arenas, but just for her games. Caitlin is putting up good numbers, but she is not dominating like she was in college. All those people who jumped on the Caitlin bandwagon are losing interest quickly and the numbers are already declining. By then end of next season, the spike in viewers she brought will be gone, returning the WNBA to a league no one cares about.
    The NBA is a business and their goal is to make money. They know they cant add more teams inside or outside the US. So they are doing a long term experiment with the WNBA. They know the WNBA will never hold a candle the NBA in any way. However, if they can generate enough interest that the WNBA makes a few percent of the money the WNBA makes, it would be a viable revenue stream. This is why they are happy to dump 10s of millions into it yearly. The NBA has money to burn and if they can make the WNBA even slightly successful, that money would be returned and they will be making profits going forward. So the question is will the spike and fall in interest in the WNBA convince the NBA that there is a future for the WNBA? Or will it finally show them that the WNBA is a failed venture and it is time to cut bait and give up?

      true, but they are all unicorns to a degree (there have been only around 5000 men who ever played in the NBA in all the decades) and there is an industry around it that is worth tens of billions of dollars.
