    if 160 4.2V cells gives a total of 84 volts, it means the pack has 8 banks of 20 series-connected batteries to get 84V (20 x 4.2V = 84V), and the batteries are wired in parallel to maximize total current. I'm guessing "battery balancing" has to do with monitoring the voltage of each bank and putting more charge to lower-voltage banks to try to even them out.

    Love my 2.5 amp litespeed charger. The cables are short tho 😞

    I got a spark when reconnecting my 41ah battery because I forgot to turn off discharge 😢 Now my RCR won’t turn on and the pins on battery look a bit burned. When I turn discharge on after connecting I hear a small popping sound inside the battery. Any ideas how to troubleshoot? 🙏🏽

    My onyx will charge to 81.4 with the battery charger showing 0.00 . Is it trickle charging ? Because the fan is not on it’s showing 0.0 amps and volts . The right light is green and the left light on the charger is red any help suggestions would be great

    Would the balancer work with the 10AH charger if you have the 41AH Onyx battery?

    • @claudiorojas1234
      @claudiorojas1234 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 41Ah doesn’t need a charger to do balancing the battery is self balancing
      You can change the way it balances in the settings with the Bluetooth app

    • @HomersTaken
      @HomersTaken 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@claudiorojas1234how do you change how it balances in the app. I haven't found out how to do it yet. It might be extremely easy and I just overlooked it but I have been having trouble with mine. I think my battery needs balanced because I turn my bike on and it says 77v then I plug charger in it and then it says it's fully charged. I read that it could be that it isn't balanced and I did see that a cell was lower than others in the app.

      @@HomersTaken I have the same problem
      Only let me charge to 70% something about 77v
      U solve the problem?

    • @HomersTaken
      @HomersTaken หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rodolfomorales3118 yeah my issue was the xlr connector. I replaced it and it let me charge. John Angel did a video on it too.

    So when I go and ship my bike to hawaii on an ocean freighter the battery should be on and left at 74 volts?

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. The battery is always on sunscreen the day it was assembled and activated. The feature to turn it off is just the charge and discharge cable that is being turned off and on. The only time to turn it off is when plugging it into the bike to avoid sparks.

    Can I use 10amp(onyx) to charge to 100% and then use 5amp to balance afterward??

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that’s is correct that you can do that in that order.

    Hey John, thank you for all the info. I have a 41ah battery which recently started to give me issues. According to BMS the 17th cell is undervoltage. Is there anyway to bring it back up and balance to natch the rest of the cells?

    • @claudiorojas1234
      @claudiorojas1234 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drain the pack as low as possible make sure you do it slowly then charge the pack up to 80% as slow as you can, once at 80% let it seat for 2 days with out using it.
      Make sure the settings of (Balance Only While Charging) is turned Off.
      Is the pack gets a bit better that is all you are going to get.
      It will go back to bad eventually.

    Does the AlienGear variable charger also balance like the litespeed if I dial it at 2 or 4?

  • @thee752
    @thee752 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the litespeed 2-12a charger, when the battery is full (green light on) after about 2 hours the charger display turns off but the green light stays on, is it still balancing the battery at this point? Thanks

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lite Speed Bikes 2-12 charger isn’t compatible for balancing the 23ah battery. It does fine charging it but you want to use the stock 5amp for balancing. I’ve got more information on that at johnangel.nyc/posts/onyx-rcr-chargers/

    Thise light speed batteries have a physical power switch so i dont have to pull my phone out and launch an app to shut the battery discharge circuit off.

    Great tips, I don’t have an ONYX but I can use them on my S73s. I have a 5A and 3A charger. I’m hoping the 3A charger is balancing compatible. I can tell when the 5A is done charging because the fan cuts off.

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best way to know when a battery is and has balanced is by using a outlet meter to see how much electricity the charger is pulling during the balancing state. Balancing happens between 2 watts and 5 watts.

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe I have an outlet meter listed at johnangel.nyc/posts/onyx-rcr-links/

    Can you charge it through the discharge port?

    • @claudiorojas1234
      @claudiorojas1234 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If is an emergency yes, but you risk damaging or confusing the bms.
      If your battery is extremely low and the charging port is broken you can do it to just bring it to 50% 74V while you find a shop to resolve the charging port issue.

    So in short terms leave the battery 23ah on the charger charging for three days without unplugging it ?

    I KNOW you're probably tired of the same questions but, my compatible 5ah charger will automatically Balance my 41ah battery? I don't need to leave charging past 100%?

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 41ah battery isn’t dependent on whether a charger is balance compatible. You can unplug the charger when the battery is charged from 80 volts to 84 volts and it will self balance.

      @John Angel thanks
      From the ONYX battery video it seemed like with the 10am and 41ah battery...once one light turned green you need to leave it plugged in to trickle charge to get 2 green lights and be balanced. But from this i get that with the 41ah battery it doesnt have to stay plugged in to balance

  • @truth8508
    @truth8508 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review. Don't own yet because I have so many questions. So the 10 amp OEM charger doesn't balance the 23ah OEM battery. Shocker. Will it balance the 41ah or any other ah battery? Why would someone buy an Onyx 41 ah battery for 1700 when lite speed sells a 42 ah for $1300? Odd that at this price point they have no dealer network. What's the best battery and charger combination you know of. This is key to running the bike to me. They should pay you for this effort.

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Battery Management System of the 41ah battery and 23ah are similar yet different enough that the 41ah battery does not require balance compatible charger. You are correct that the 10 amp charger won’t balance the 23ah battery. Charging the 41ah battery with the 10 amp charger works for balance because the BMS of the 41ah takes care of its own balancing 100% regardless of the charger used as where the 23ah requires a balance compatible charger. I’ll be updating my blog post with information on wall outlet meters to verify that any charger is balance compatible. But I also have chargers listed on my site labeled whether they are balance compatible. The reason to get the 41ah battery is much more range, twice the power output and a much more robust BMS. johnangel.nyc/posts/onyx-rcr-chargers/

    What happens if you accidentally charged the battery in the off position?

    • @JohnAngelnyc
      @JohnAngelnyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The batteries have been updated since this post where the off switch only affects the discharge cable and not the charge cable. So charging will work in the off position.

    Hey just bought the 41 amp 1.5 RCR and wanted to know when It arrives should I balance it right away, it should come charged I would assume...but is it already balanced from the factory stock? Or should I plug it in and immediately begin the process and wait the 3 days? Also can I ride the bike and use the battery during this 3 day period. Btw thanks for all the videos and info on this bike its more knowledge than the manufacturer and I appreciate that.

    • @claudiorojas1234

      The 41Ah onyx battery does not needs to be balanced it will balance it self once is full.
      Just buy the Envisioned velcro straps 1.5 X 30 from Amazon
      And the rubber mat from Onyx to protect it from bad potholes and stay away from ruff terrain that battery gets damaged from banging. The bottom of the battery is not built well.
