    I've found the key to achieving the best dirty sounds on the TMP is to use IR's. For cleans, the Fender cabinet modeling is perfect. There are still improvements to be made on how the TMP cabinet modeling handles the dirst. Sometimes I find a 2 amp combination works best for dirty, one with IR's, one with fender cabinet modeling. Other times I will just go with a single amp + IR.

      agreed, the cleans are excellent...where do find your ir's?

      @ I’ve been pretty much exclusively using the Nirvana In Utero and Nevermind IR’s from Aaron Rash.

      That’s a great observation! IRs really do shine on the TMP for dirty tones-I’ve found the same thing. The Fender cabinet modeling absolutely nails the cleans, but when it comes to dirtier sounds, mixing in IRs or even combining two amps can open up so many possibilities. I like your approach of blending one with IRs and one with the Fender cab modeling; it’s a solid way to add depth and character. Have you found any go-to IRs that work particularly well for your dirty tones?

    Listening to this #1 & #2 are very close, #3 has a weird distortion. I have no guess - the reverb on #1 was certainly more pleasant to my ears than #2 and will say #1 was my favorite overall

    The real amp has those kids that are so hard to replicate.

      You’re absolutely right-there’s something about the dynamics and feel of a real amp like the 65 Deluxe that’s tough to replicate. The interaction with those tubes, especially when you push them just right, creates a warmth and responsiveness that’s hard to beat. That said, the TMP and FM9 have come a long way in capturing that vibe while offering a ton of flexibility. It really comes down to what works best for your playing style and needs! What’s your go-to amp or modeler right now?

    #2 Real amp. I could hear compression on #1 and #3, whether you had it on or not, I heard it where it didn't hear it on #2.

      Nice! There wasn’t any compression on #1 or #3, but I get what you’re hearing. I’m debating doing a follow-up video where I really dial in the modelers to match the mic’d 65’ DRRI exactly. For this one, I kept all the knobs the same for consistency, but yeah, the FM9 definitely stands out tone-wise. Personally, I think the recorded tone on the TMP actually beats the real amp-wild, right?

    And to add to the complexity....."which Deluxe Reverb"? I have a vintage 1965 DR. It sounds bigger and nastier than any reissues I've ever heard. Who knows what's been messed with before I got it 25 years ago. All of these old tube amps are different...different tubes, capacitors, etc. Parts have drifted from spec. I have a TMP and FM9 as well. They both sort of sound like a Deluxe Reverb but not mine. The big difference is I've been able to mess with the deep settings on the FM9 to get something more like my amp whereas you can't really do that with the TMP. But they all sound great.

    • @damionandy
      @damionandy  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha, so true-there are so many differences, and even amps of the same model can sound totally unique! The next experiment I’m thinking of doing is setting up each modeler to mimic the Deluxe as closely as possible and seeing if people can still tell the difference. For this video, I kept all the knobs the same to test how well they modeled the 65’ DRRI straight out of the box.

      @@damionandy Agree - I would ignore the virtual knob settings and dial it in by ear to match the tube amp at a specific level.
