Awesome video! Can't wait till the ice is safe up here in Maine to get out a little deeper but only the shore lines and safe now. Might jig up some Brookies this weekend
Love the show guys! I missed the first 2 shows do to hunting obligations. Lol but I plan my Sunday mornings around your show. Keep up the good work and stay safe this season! Good luck!
That was a pie of a gill! Glad you guys have enjoyed early ice success, been fun to watch. Heads up for a December thaw coming up, going to ruin a lot of ice that's out there in the lower belt.
I used to make my own spring bobbers fromm .008" guitar string. Detecting an "up bite" is not a problem. Simply bend the spring up about 20 degrees from the rod tip at the attachment point. The spring will now have a bow in its middle when the line is slightly tight, and will twitch or dip with a normal bite and rise in the event of an "up bite". The two main problems with this style are that the spring acts as a shock absorber, and it is difficult to get a vigorous jigging action if desired. Heavy lures will also overpower it, and it is obviously useless if it is hanging nearly straight down from the rod tip. I also used to use small (#16 and #18) wet flies as droppers while using this system. No bait required. Later on I developed some dropper flies to be used in conjunction with live bait. If any of these products interest you, let me know and I could send you some samples for evaluation. Winter will be here before you know it. Good fishing, Ken Watson
Hey James I'm also from Minnesota and have a place in ely you guys going up there this year or to brainerd my home town would be sweet to meet you some day and talk ice tactics
Most guys who are concerned at all with conservation don't spear lol, I would be shocked if James and the guys did something like spearing... I personally don't see the sport in it, nor do I understand spearing trophies and spawners.
You guys should do a strip pit bluegill show in west central indiana chinook fwa or green/sullivan fwa i have pulled some nice 10-11" red ear out we dont get a good ice season this far south but you can kill them when you get ice. Some of the lakes have 30' visability makes it hard to fish open water.
what is the best size jig to use with the noodle rods? just bought a Beaver Dam 23" noodle after watching this show going to be using 3lb test orange suffix precision performance momo ice magic great show in SD
hello friends i was watching your episodes and near the end of this episode you were explaining how to read the flasher unit distinguishing the various colours that represents the bottom, weeds and such. i found this very helpful because i have the lx3 that i bought quite a few years ago. i was wondering the info you provide, is the princple the same on the lx3 vs the lx9? i have used my lx3 for a few years now and i was never sure what the various coloured bars meant. even though i can use it to catch fish and all but would the tall weeds and such show up on a lx3 a different colour bar? thanks for the help
We are n the Webster SD area. We typically won't name lakes unless it is a very well known location. We do this to simply protect a fishery from being over fished, and to respect the locals.
+InDepthOutdoorsTV what length noodle do you prefer. mostly fish outside tent kneeling like you are in this video. also do you prefer the split grip.. thanks
Just booked my hotel for 7 days Jan 3-10 will be in Webster sd any tips would be helpful I love to hit the "smaller" body of waters. Thanks for any info @indepthoutdoors
Hey bud, you are going to have a great time! Just make sure you have an arsenal of jigging spoons, plastics, and depending on the species you are targeting you can also use Rapala Rippin' Raps or Jiggin' Raps. We have a ton of South Dakota episodes for you to consume right here on our TH-cam page, and if you want additional information join our forums and check out the South Dakota fishing forums! www.in-depthoutdoors.com/register/
I appreciate you not sharing a the name of the lake in this episode. The body of water you're on actually gets a lot of pressure, especially through the ice, and that lake is not 1,000's of acres. Turning a show in a week means you have people following your wake to these lakes and spots. Consider airing after the pattern has changed. Consider also that You doubled the number of boats last year on Bitter the week after your show aired. You produce an excellent and educational show, but don't be afraid to make your viewers work and learn the same way you have. The resource cannot sustain fisherman of your caliber giving it away.
I'm lucky to live 10-30 mins from these awesome lakes!
You guys are my icon, my idol, and my heroes. You guys are my favorite youtube channel ever. Your the best!

Love that you make so many ice fishing videos already this year. It's already been cold and it's been warm between then.

Hey James I'm also from Minnesota and have a place in ely you guys going up there this year or to brainerd my home town would be sweet to meet you some day and talk ice tactics
I'm not far from brainerd
You guys should really do some spearing for northers. I need to learn a lot about it and cant find any good videos about it
I will be making a spearing video soon! I'm doing some taping today actually! Head over to my channel and check it out!
try to make it as informative as possible, not like all the other people where they just show the fish in the hole and then them spearing it.
Most guys who are concerned at all with conservation don't spear lol, I would be shocked if James and the guys did something like spearing... I personally don't see the sport in it, nor do I understand spearing trophies and spawners.
I wish there was fishable ice on Lake St Clair.. ugh!
